The hotel was nicely located and clean throughout. Friendly staff, reasnoble food and drink prices. The resort itself is largly German and is quite small, but has everything you need. All bars and restraunts are well priced and of good quality (Statues bar and Carosell restraunt are especially good).
The beach is very stoney and is difficult to sun bathe on, but a five minute walk along the beach leads to nicer sands. Bus links can take you on a short ride to Lindos, Faliraki and Rodos. Ideal for couples and young families, I would recommend both the Myrina Apartments and Kolymbia for a September break.
Having booked this holiday as a last minute deal, we weren't too sure what to expect. I was rather worried that the island would be too english but i was pleasantly suprised by how Greek it was.

The Myrina Beach is a great hotel with many facilities, including a bar, a minimarket and a pool. The bar and lounge have a great atmosphere despite the 24 hour sky sports. Aphillis and Christophe are a double act behind the bar and every time we sat down at the bar, we were given free shots. However it is not a young and lary atmosphere, ages from 5 - 95 were mixing here. The Greek night is unmissable, Aphillis sat us with another young couple for dinner as it was our 2nd night and we didn't know anyone yet. It was great fun, the traditional Greek dancers had us dancing all around the pool, and even after the dancers left, the older greek locals took centre stage and encouraged us to dance with them. The rooms are more like hotel rooms than apartments but great for a base. The cooking facilities are just two rings attached to a sink so don't expect to cook a gourmet meal for 7. There are no real windows in the room but a large balcony door, this is fine for ventilation in the day but we kept it shut at night, this wasn't a problem though as Rhodes gets quite chilly at night time so bring a cardigan when you go out.
Kolymbia is a small resort, it is fairly quiet but has a friendly buzz through the night, in the Greek way, the shops and bars etc don't shut until they absolutley have to. Bar statues is a great bar where two barmen named George, one who physically drags you back in when you try to leave and one who juggles bottles, keep you entertained. There are many lovely restraunt/taverna's that do traditional greek food, there are all small and friendly. Regarding the beach, why would you spend a day on the beach with garish hotels towering over it when you can go to a little cove around the corner or a beach minus hotels but plus two tavernas and a relaxed greek atmosphere, next to the fishing harbour? I can't explain locations well but it is worth looking at all three beaches.
However, we only really used Kolymbia as a base for exploring the island, I think this is what the resort is best for.
Rhodes Old Town and Lindos are definatley worth seeing, but don't do them by excursion when you can get a bus for 2.50 and see them in your own time. You need to enter a castle to get to Rhodes old town and once you're in there you don't want to be leaving (it's not that easy to, getting lost in the medieval streets is much easier). Buses to and from Lindos are limited so we got the 10 o clock bus and got a taxi back for 20 euros at midnight. This was well worth doing as we got to completly chill out in Lindos in the day on the stunning beach and able to sample the wonder of Lindos at night, a series of whitewashed lanes buzzing with atmosphere and we enjoyed a lovely meal at Alex's Restraunt, a place that can boast fantastic food and a rooftop garden with wonderful views of Lindos.
Excursions we did included the Jeep safari and a trip to Symi. The Jeep Safari was great as it took us to Prassonsi where two oceans meet, an undiscovered beach for lunch (can't really call it lunch though, a slice of bread with a slab of fetta cheese)and various other great viewpoints and points of interest. It was a very friendly trip and a great way of seeing the island, but be prepared to be socialable as you may not neccessarily be sat next to your partner, also be prepared for the 'shortcut' - a real life theme park ride taking you off road on a tank testing track.
Symi was beautiful and well worth seeing but try to book it with a small excursion company (if they exist), the boat on the Golden Sun excursion was far too crowded and bring layers because the morning sea breeze is painfully nippy. If it is possible, see it independantly by travelling on water taxi. Although we greatly enjoyed all the excursions, the one i'd recommend that can't be done independantly is the Jeep Safari. The others are undoubtedly important places to see but try to see them independantly.
Would we come back to Rhodes? Yes it was a fantastic holiday with a lot of greek charm but we would try and stay in Lindos if we went again.

The hotel Kolymbia is an older property which is in the middle of having a new extension built. Guests were staying in the new bit even though it is not finished. We stayed in the older bit which initially looks ok.
Reception area/Bar bright, clean and well furnished. However the room we stayed in hadn`t been updated much since it was built and was old and tired and shabby. The floor was filthy and covered in sand, grit and hair AND WORSE OF ALL THE WALLS HAD BLOOD STAINS FROM CRUSHED MOSQUITOES YUK!! These evil little creatures bit us to death every night.17ish bites each.
The pool area was clean and quite pleasant but the pool itself was about 20yrs old and had crackled tiles, loose steps, and was freezing cold.
The resort of Kolymbia is indeed ";international";. Not that many English people, Although Myrina is for Brits only. There are a few bars and shops but they are all selling the same stuff. There was hardly anywhere to eat-we counted 5 restarants! Food at hotel quite nice but v.expensive.Best night was the hotel`s ";Greek"; night. Everyone had to join in and do a bit of Greek dancing etc. Got v.drunk and made loads of friends.
We hired a car for 3days which is highly recommended. Fantastic mountains, pine forests etc. Wouldn`t go again though!!

We stayed here for 1 week in mid July, and overall it was excellent for the money we paid. This was an additional property for this summer so it's not in the 2003 brochure.
When you open your apartment door, place your room key in the white plastic slot on the wall, or you'll be walking back to reception to complain you don't have electricity!!
No kettles in any of the apartments so make sure you take a travel one, or be prepared to boil a saucepan full of water every time you fancy a cuppa.
Any other probs, speak to the manager,he's lovely.
These are self catering apts in a fairly new complex, only 5 mins from the beach. Studios a bit on the small side but very clean. Maid service 5 times a wk, clean towels twice a wk. Air con is available for an extra 30 euros a wk, but we just slept with the balcony door open.
Nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers although some people still felt it necessary to get up at 6 to put towels out!!
The poolside restaurant/cafe opens at 8am serving breakfast and other light snacks. Beware, the full english brekkie. It consists of toast, frankfurter sausages, tinned tomatoes, fried eggs covered with said tomato juice, plus lukewarm beans and mushrooms, at a cost of 5 euros, tea/coffee/juice incl. Fried eggs on toast was a nicer option.
Hotel entertainment quite good. Frequent poolside bbq's, karoake night, Greek night (with traditional dancers), cost 25 euros but dinner and unlimited drinks.
It's only a 5 min walk to the shops, restaurants and bars in the resort. Try Statues Bar, or Memories Bar for great cocktails,(try the Bahama Mama cocktail in Memories), 4 euros each but you get 2 for the price of 1.
On the last day we weren't due to be picked up until 1 in the morning, but you have to be out of the apt by midday, so we paid an extra 50 euros to keep the apt 'til midnight and only had to spend an hour in reception. Well worth the money because we spent that last day on a trip to Symi, (beautiful place, take your credit cards!), got back, showered and changed, then went out to Memories Bar for a few drinks. Much nicer than sitting with your suitcases for 12 hours just waiting to go home!
Kolymbia is a good base to explore the rest of the island, but fairly quiet. If you travel with Olympic, the Rhodes Express trip is free if you book 2 other trips, otherwise it costs 16 euros each and all they do is drop you off in Rhodes Town and tell you to be back at the coach in 4 hours. Our rep barely pointed us in the right direction to the old town so we wasted a lot of time trying not to get lost between the old town and the new.
The local bus cost 2.50 euros each way and you can spend as long as you like in Rhodes Town.
The trip to Lindos was nice (noon 'til sunset boat trip), wear sensible shoes as the walk down from the Acropolis is quite slippery unless you go up on one of the donkeys.
All in all, we had a fantastic time, and I'm definitely going back next year but for 2 weeks this time.

We went to the Myrina Apts on a last minute, self catering deal. If you intend doing the same, dont! The rooms, whilst clean and tidy, were actually, hotel rooms with a fridge, sink and 2 cooking rings. There is no room to prepare food or eat it. Having said that, eating out is fairly cheap, although more expensive at the Myrina, and the quality of food is good. The 24 hour reception isn't quite 24 hours, and if you need travellers cheques cashed you have to do it in the daytime. The staff are friendly (eventually), if a bit suspicious that you aren't trying to pinch everything that isn't nailed down.
The beach is a few minutes away, and is very nice but you need to walk to the far end of the beach to be able to get in the sea without falling over on the rocks or being stung by jelly fish!
The resort itself is quiet. There is'nt much in the way of entertainment so be prepared to make your own.
Having said that, we had a top holiday and would go again, but not with self catering in mind.
Ooo almost forgot the noise!!! They have an insect infestation in the trees......DO NOT ATTACK THEM UNLESS YOU CAN BE SURE YOU HAVE KILLED THEM.....they come back at ya!! They are abut 2 inches long, hard backed with wings and scream! They scream from sunrise to sunset beware the critter!! You do get used to the noise.........eventually!
We wont mention the robbers, rats, cows, mice, cockroaches, and deathly slippery stairs!!
