"Memories Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We loved Rhodes and would definitely return as we only saw a smidgen of the island!
We arrived to the chaotic Rhodes airport, name me one that isn't, and waited for our taxi outside for approx 20 mins. Ended up sharing a taxi with another couple which happens quite a lot in Rhodes at the airport! Taxi driver only charged us for our leg which turned out later to be correct.
Kremasti Memories is best descrobed as a small family run hotel in the literal sense as both the owners daughters work on the reception. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and a beaming smile. We were checked in within a minute to a very large immaculately clean room. We both thought the generous space was a real plus point. The room was attented to every day and we were made to feel very welcome throughout our 7 day stay.
Breakfast was very simple but adequate.
Kremasti Memories is within a 10 min slow stroll to the main street which is a real gem as we discovered a superb working Greek village. There are some very posh houses nearby! Greek life goes on as normal here and it is quite a sophistated village with lots of life in the evening. It is very neat and tidy with a superbly built church which we found out later to have been built by local donations. On the main street here are several good restaurants. We can recommend the Grande Magister (very good English spoken by the owner), Kahlua for a drink with some good music, Romeos for an upstairs seat looking down on the street below, Grill House (Don't let the name put you off as the food served outside in the open air was SUPERB). There are others which were also good value.
Local buses run every 10 mins during the day from outside Kahula down to Rhodes Town. The harbour area looked fantastic in Rhodes Town as did the Town itself. This is a reason we WILL be returning to Rhodes as we didn't get chance to see this area properly.
Car Hire cost up less than £45 for 2 days for a nearly new Nissan Micra (more than adequate) with air con, CD player etc from Island Rent A Car on the Main Street. We collected from the office but they collected from the hotel which was very convenient.
The pebbly, slightly scruffy beach, was a gentle 10 minute stroll this time turning right out of the hotel. The superb views across the blue green water to Turkey more than made up for the lack of golden sand. The Air Riders (huge kites strapped to a person who rides the waves on a very very fast surfboard)were very entertaining. The breeze, required for the kites, varied in strength each day but was never too much and was always a welcome relief from the Rhodes heat. There are 3 little restaurants on the beach of varying quality but all with good service in all and good food of course...not forgetting the cool beer to enjoy whilst soaking up that view.
Yes the aircraft! Kremasti is close to the airport and the planes land straight over the hotel. You hear them coming as a slight whistle and approx 4.5 secs later they're gone. Bit of surprise at first but soon not a problem...believe me! Exciting for plane spotters and kids alike Ha! Ha! The busy evenings seem to be Saturday and Thursday but as I said it really is NOT a problem.
In summary Kremasti is a superb base to explore the rest of the island (recommend Lindos, Pefkos, Tsimpaki Beach south of Kolimbari)and is a great place to experience real Rhodes life as this really is a greek village with lots of smart, young and old, Greeks in the streets and the restaurants. They make you feel welcome everywhere! You also feel very safe in Kremasti. As I said earlier livlier resorts are nearby and Rhodes Town is just a short bus ride away (2 euros) and the taxi is only a fiver or so to come back?
Go on give it a try! We thought it was great

We have visited Kremasti many times and just cannot find fault with it, we usually stop at the Esmeralda Hotel and love the place it is family run food is brilliant, should we fancy eating out we like to visit the Pelicanos resteraunt the food here is really good and wont break the bank, this is also family run the two brothers are great and cannot do enough to accomodate you, Kremasti is the type of holiday where you want to be among Greeks and just relax.
I am going back in October and would be there every month if I could, just chill and watch the world go by.
