Please note that on arrival at Rhodes airport the rep is supposed to give you either a key or room number as they do not accompany you to the resort. This we found out to our expense but that is another story. Lardos is a beautifull village and the best restaurant is SAVVAS which you cannot miss as it is the first one when walking into the village. Savvas, his wife and daughter Dora ( who is a solicitor) make you really welcome and nothing is too much trouble. they invitrd us to partake in the meal for their grandaughters christening, ( this is the real Greece). I served in the Royal Navy so ive seen a few countries and cultures and this rates very highly. I appreciate every body has different opinions but go and see it if you want a relaxing holiday and remember SAVVAS, but stay away from Thomson.

This holiday was booked last minute and oh boy what a mistake. It was booked through Thomson Just and it was only JUST.
We arrived at the apartments at 5.30 in the morning. There are no lights to illumiate your walk down the drive or the steps and we had difficulty seeing where we were going. The ground floor apartment was frankly disgusting. When you opened the door a wall of heat hit you immediately - no fans or air con available. The bathroom was disgusting, room only for 1, a cockroach was in the shower and the shower ceiling was falling down. The apartment hadn't been cleaned properly and there were children's beads all over the floor and a gaping great hole in the wall where the telephone wire had been inserted. We hoped to wake in time to go to the Welcome meeting at 10am. However, I was awoken by a poke in the ribs from my husband at 8.30 to ask me to stop talking. I wasn't the people in the next room were having a conversation and you could hear every single word. The walls were so thin we spent the next half a hour listening to the next door neighbour having chronic Diarrhoea !!
On inspection of the verandah - what verandah - it was below road level and you sat just staring at a wall and the sub basement of the road. To cap it all someone turned on a radio above us at 9am and started playing ";Disco Beat Music";. This was not the standard of accommodation we were expecting from Thomson. Needless to say we were moved out immediately - and thats another story!!!
The positive side of this - yes we are positive the Amaryllis Apartments are to be avoided.

Fourth time with Just - have always been pleasantly surprised. This year was no exception - the Amaryllis Apartments were excellent value for money.
We had 2 beds with loads of cupboard space and a balcony (with views both to the sea and inland) to the bedroom, a shower room (with somewhere to attach the shower - hurrah!) and a separate kitchenette/dining room with a single bed we used as a sofa, fridge, 2 electric rings and a small table and chairs. Once all the doors were closed we had peace and quiet in the evenings. Lardos Beach is not up to much, but we were able to use the pool at the Elvita Apartments 5 minutes away which overlooks the sea and was not crowded.
The area is not a major resort but had enough supermarkets and quite a few tavernas. About a 20 minute walk away is Lardos Village (it was in the 30's when we went at the beginning of June so bring plenty of water on the walk!) which whilst catering for tourists with several tavernas and tourist shops still retains a Greek atmosphere. We ate in 2 tavernas both during the day and evening and had excellent, friendly service and good food. There is a constant hubbub in the village with Greeks going about their everyday lives, chatting in the village square, etc. I have been to Corfu and Kos and have not seen this in any of the places I have stayed before. And in Lardos Village and Lardos Beach along with the bill always came complimentary fruit liquers - we must have tried 7 different flavours!
We hired a car for 3 days which I would recommend. We toured the interior which is totally different to the beach areas - verdant, mountainous and forested. Wonderful pine smell going through the forests and in June beautiful flowers throughout the island. Old castles to explore and ancient sites like Kamiras.
We also found an excellent sandy beach in Tsambika - clear water (so clear you can see the fish!), no shingle and lovely backdrop - though be prepared to go the end of the beach if you don't want a sunbed. All in all an excellent holiday - we don't like lots of noise, clubbing or huge complexes (so we didn't like Pefkos when we checked that out). Lardos does not have these (although I suspect in a few years there will be a lot more accommodation built).

Set off in May with two children and another couple hoping for a week's relaxation. We got just that and more! Though basic, the Amaryllis was clean and the maid Zeta could not do enough to help.
Alexander and Yeleni (Alexanders sports cafe) were superb hosts throughout the wee, refusing to let us get a taxi anywhere and truly 'adopting, the kids!!
The beach was fantastic, very clean. The local supermarkets have a good selection of cooked meats and cheeses; ideal for a lazy continental breakfast on the terrace or balcony!
My husband and I returned in September alone and it was just as great as I remembered. We will be taking the children back for 2 weeks this time with our friends next May...if you havent been you really should!
