"Montemar Beach Resort review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a bad hotel. You are not garanteed to stay in this hotel they will put you in small apartment further up road, which is not fit enought for anyone to live or stay in. This is where I was put and strongley complained moved 2 days later. The staff are not very helpful or friendly. Please avoid don't waste your money. I complained and took plenty of pictures of my stay, I finally got a refund. This hotel should not be in any brochure

the montemar hotel is not bad when we where there they only had 300 guests.they only had about 150 glasses. so when you went for a drink you had to have plastic cups most off the time.the food was good.when you go outside of the complex all you have is 3 supermarkets 2bars 1 other complex. so you have to go to the next towns to have any variety . god help you when it is full with 1500 guests.

the hotel was nothing like the brochure promised, It is part of a huge complex catering mostly for germans, there are steps everywhere the food was discusting as there were flys landing on the uncoverd food it was warm and the food in the pool bar( if they can be called that they do not serve fresh food) was left all day and by 11 the next day the food remaing was heated up again.
We ate out at the cosmos maris apts next door for our lunch (which was lovely we were very welcome and will be going back there on holiday next year) we also changed rooms three times as it was our silver wedding we had booked a pool view room on a high floor the first one we got was down below the hotel overlooking a water boiler. the secomd was much better we were allocated a one bed apt on the third floor ( no view though) we were asked to vacate it as a family had booked in and need it so we were put on the fifth floor up some very steep steps the staff were not very helpful and the rep did we have one? no good at all we would not recommend this hotel to anyone .
The positive side is that lardos is a beatiful and relaxing retreat with some lovely and resonable resturants. try the roof top in lardos square brilliant spent many a night there! the weather was good and the transfers were not too bad there are some nice hotels in this area as i said we";ll be going to the cosmos maris cant wait

Overall Hotel Rating:
We had never been to Rhodes before and we were really looking forward to it. In fact we have only just returned home 2 hours ago. We arrived at the Hotel Montemar to find we had about 60 steps to climb to our room.
Now let me tell you about the room! The air conditioning DID NOT WORK! We complained to the hotel desk, who sent a ";repairman"; who didnt have a clue, my partner knew more than he did. He basically fobbed us off. We then complained to our rep (totally useless as usaul, only working there to get a tan). Finally we spoke to the manager. This was on the saturday and we had arrived on the wednesday. We had a temp gauge with us and on the saturday evening it was 26c in our room, with the air con on and that was at 11:30pm! Also during this time, we started to have sewage coming from other peoples room through the grill in our bathroom floor! All credit to the manager, he said we could move to the Montemar Village 50 yards up the road! RESULT! Air con that worked! Clean rooms, no human waste trying to escape into our bathroom! After this we were more than happy.
Also outside the hotel you have a raised patio with chairs and umbrellas, very nice for chilling out on. BUT they had taken the lid off the septic tank just out of view behind the hotel sign, the smell was overpowering and other people we met said it was disgusting! It was like that for the entire fortnight and as it got hotter the smell got worse!
Ok, the hotel food. It catered for the german folk, which was about 90%. The food was reheated from the previous day and was just like being at junior school. Poor to say the least! If you can live on chips and garlic sausage meat then you will be on cloud nine!
RIGHT! enough about the hotel! Lardos was great! Small village but with just enough life in it to make it enjoyable. The beaches on the island were all in all lovely. Mainly Agathi beach or golden sand as the sign said. Totally beautifull!!! Excellent for snorkelling! We went into Rhodes town, which was ok, but very expensive to eat. We went on a lazy day boat cruise, which visited several beaches and ended with us jumping of the boat in 20ft deep water with a backdrop of the cliffs from the film ";The Guns of Naverone";. Amazing day! We did scuba too through the company Waterhoppers that sail from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes town. Brilliant day. And compared to prices on Zante, Kos and Cyprus it was cheap and well worth it!
We had car hire for the entire 2 weeks and did over 700k. The island has lots to see and getting a car is the way forward. We were in a packed bar when Greece won Euro 2004, that is a night we will never forget, truly amazing! The people in Lardos were very friendly and I struck up a friendship with our cleaner even though she didnt speak a word of english!
The weather was as hot as hell, but thats what we are all paying for after all! Not a cloud in the sky the whole time we were there. The day we left we were all chilled and looking forward to eating something other than chips and beetroot! The airport was a nightmare. They have far too many flights coming and going for such a small airport. We arrived at 1pm. And we were told to queue outside in the hot hot hot sun so that our bags could be scanned. Unlike at home where you check in then have you bags scanned, for some reason in Rhodes you have to have your bags scanned first??? Myself (and the other 1500 people queueing outside) were not amused, esp those with young children. To make matters worse, there was a police van parked next to us and the officers inside were laughing at us and rubbing us all up the wrong way. We had no access to toilets or any other facilites.
So all in all. Hotel Montemar was a joke, poor food, poor rooms, misable staff, no working air con, smelly infested bathrooms!
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, we have had great hotels in Greece everytime, but this place was a disgrace. Please avoid! The sooner the place shuts down the better! If you do stay there make sure you stay in the Montemar village, just a short walk up the road, it is a whole different ball game, had its own pool and was away from the Montemar Concentration Camp!
Lardos was great. The beaches were lovely. The people were cool. I hope you find this review helpfull. We are just a bit annoyed at how the hotel was described in the brochure and the contrast to how things really were! If you go to Lardos you will love it, we did!!!!!

Overall Hotel Rating:
This holiday was both mine and my wifes first visit to Greece. Neither of us really knew what to expect and were starting to get a little concerned as everybody got off the bus and we left civilisation behind.
When we got to the hotel there was a cup of coffee and food waiting for arriving guests. We were shown to our room by the person on reception who was very freindly. The room was very clean and fresh smelling and the first thing that we noticed was a notice in bathroom warning us not to flush toilet paper as the drains were very fragile. The next day we explored the hotel after a very satisfying breakfast and it seemed lovely. The good food continued throughout the entire stay with a wide selection of foods from European countries to choose from.
The rep was very helpful if a little difficult to contact at times due to being based in the next town. The biggest problem was that whenever she tried to contact us we were out and about somewhere but she always left a note under the door to say when she would try again.
One evening about halfway through our week my wife turned on a light at about 9.30pm and the electrics in our room all went out. After hearing horror stories about foreign hotels I went to reception to report the fault but didnt really expect anything to be done until the next day. To our surprise the fault was repaired within half an hour. In fact the repair man was at the room almost as quickly as I got back there.
The cleaners at the hotel were efficient beyond belief even folding up any dirty clothes that we left out anywhere in the room and placing them in neat piles on the bed.
During our stay we vetured out on foot to Lardos, Pefkos and Lindos and found them all to be lovely places to visit. All in all we had no reason to complain about any aspect of our holiday other than an excursion that was cancelled for alleged rough seas. Even this was dealt with by the rep in a very professional way.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.

We had already booked our holiday when we found the reviews about our hotel on this page. We had hoped that the reports were exagerated, unfortunately they weren't.
We arrived at the hotel to find we had been given a room in the holiday village about 200 yards down the road. This turned out to be a lucky break. There are few steps to climb, the pool was fairly quiet and the pool bar had a great atmosphere. The guy who ran the pool bar, Panagiotis (Peter) was great, he had us all laughing into the wee small hours and did all he could to make our stay memorable.
We were half board and had to eat our meals in the main hotel. This meant passing the open cess pit (mentioned in previous reports)4 times a day, the smell was unbelievable. Luckily due to the wind direction, we didn't have to put up with the stink whilst we ate our meal, although there were some unpleasant smells coming from the kitchen. The food itself wasn't very appetising. Generally it was cold. Occasionally we would find something that was warm and twice we actually had what could be classed as a hot meal.
During our two weeks at the hotel we only saw the Airtours rep once and that was only because we bumped into her in a bar when she was off duty. We wasted a lot of hours waiting around the hotel for her but she never turned up and the hotel staff had no idea where she could be found, even during the times she should have been in the hotel. We did have one problem whilst staying there but the hotel management were very helpful and everything was sorted to our satisfaction.
To sumarise, AVOID this hotel. If like us you have already booked try to get into the holiday village.

If you are British be prepared to be one of very few among hundreds of German and Yugoslav.
What made me laugh was the signs saying ";Please Do Not Reserve Sunbeds"; was in English!!
The all-inclusive food is served without any consideration for the English. True there were fish and chips but always cold.
Plus points if you can eat most foods at most temperatures you won't starve.
Pizza was cooked throughout the sitting as were BBQ meats.
You just had to be there for a hot piece that was cooked yet not burned.
A challenge.
Beer was on tap most of the day as were soft drinks and ice creams.
Place was clean and well run, but if I had to be honest, wwe weren't made welcome.
Would I go back? No
Would I recommend the place? Not to my friends.
