"The Lindian Village Resort review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Lindian Village is a 5 star resort with beautiful sandy beach, helpful staff and lovely setting and rooms. We were on honeymoon and were upgraded to a suite with our own private pool.
The downside is it is very expensive and luckily we had half board. However drinks with your evening meal were not cheap - 15 euros for one small local beer and water and not any cheaper in the bars at the hotel. Needless to say we saw most people simply having water with their meals. You will need a second mortgage if you want to drink there every night! Guests are mainly German and American - but even the Americans on checkout seemed not too happy with the final bill!
There are also other restaurants on site and if you are staying half board there is a 25 euro discount on the bill for eating in other than the international restaurant. Food generally was ok and the desserts pretty good.
The hotel is also on the very edge of the Lardos area and absolutely miles from anywhere. 1 1/2 to a 2 hour walk to Lardos Village! Do hire a bike/car and explore. We toured the whole island and driving is not too bad on the whole - taxi drivers are the worst for overtaking on bends and driving in the middle of the road. We found some rooms to rent in Faliraki to see what it was like (nowhere as bad as painted) for a few days and it meant we could have a few drinks without worrying about driving or how expensive the drinks were! It was cheaper to do that than end up with what we reckoned could easily have been a £2000 bill just for having drinks in the hotel by the pool, room service, in the bar and wine with meals over 14 days for 2 of us. If we had ordered snacks too and eaten in the other restaurants I hate to think of the cost and that's without spending money on trips, hiring a car etc.
Rhodes Town is a must, Glystra beach outside of Lardos lovely sandy bay, Faliraki beach is clean and well equipped for families, Lindos for the acropolis, monastery and small amphitheatre and eating at dusk, visit Shirley Valentine's in Lardos Village for a meal and good company plus the Tharri monastery for beautiful paintings. Watch the windsurfing at Prosonissi. Visit Kameiros for the ruins, climb to Archangelos castle, Monolithos Castle, Kritiana Castle, Butterfly valley plus lots more to do if you don't like sunbathing all the time. Grab one of the free maps or tourist guides (if you can find them in a bar/restaurant).
Buses are roughly every hour or so but be warned they do get very crowded although the fare is pretty cheap.
Prices generally for food are slightly cheaper than the UK but not the really cheap prices prior to Greece joining the euro. If you buy from takeaway stalls then it will be cheaper. Beware though the portions can be huge in restaurants. But make the most of your holiday and you won't be disappointed.
