Hotel Helena Reviews

Flight from Newcastlte left on time. Transfer from airport delayed as the bus hadn't arrived with the passengers leaving on the flight out. Waited about 1/2 hour.

Hotel staff friendly and polite. The hotel is very dated but the maid came in every day to leave fresh towels and empty bins. The towels, when we arrived, were white and fluffy but by the time we left they were grey and not so fluffy and no differece between hand and bath towel in size (all hand size!).Water was always warm to shower in. There was also a fridge which was free. Plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe but not a lot of draw space.

Breakfast is continental and doesn't vary at all (only made it 3 out 7 mornings though)! The hotel had loads of Dutch, German, Swedish and Danish guests and not to many Brits.

Although the hotel is surrounded by bars we found it ok. Different in summer I would imagine. Prices are cheeper than in Old Town.

Rhodes Old Town is fabulous. Shoe and bag heaven !!!!. Be careful if you ask for a large beer - some come out in 2ltr stiens and cost 8.40 euros. You need two hands to lift it.

Loads of nice places to eat - you'll be spoilt for choice. Try Scilanis in the New Town - great value set menus and Romeos in the Old Town very traditional food and entertainment. You will find that all waiters outside any of the restaurants try and get you to eat in their restaurant but a polite no thank meant they left you alone evry time.

The beach just down from the hotel (bout two minutes) can be windy but if you walk past the aquarium (5 mins) its hardly windy at all.

We had realy good weather when we were there. It only rained for two hours one day. Average temp was probably about 27 degress but it did cool down quite a bit at night.

Return flight was on time but we had to wait for 1 hour when we got back to get out cases - which were soaked after being in the rain for so long after being unloaded. Never did find out why the delay. No one around to tell us - surprise surprise!!

If you are looking for a cheap and basic hotel - realy just somewhere to crash - in a central location this is just fine.
