What a lovely Hotel the Ibiscus is. From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the service and the efficient staff. Brilliant location opposite the beach, and we had a lovely room plenty big enough for the 3 of us. At breakfast there was an unbelievable choice of food and again brilliant service from the staff.

The beach opposite the Hotel is kept clean and tidy and sunbeds at 3.50euros each were yours for the day.

There is plenty to do in Rhodes with the shops in the New Town and the Old Town which is lovely although we found the shops a bit more expensive in the Old town and had a really terrible and overpriced meal there one night, I wish i could remember the name of the restaurant - it was bad.

Two lovely restaurants were Ellinikon and the Victoria restaurant where the food was very good and only slightly more expensive than others we ate at but the quality was far superior. If you turn right out of the Ibiscus hotel and just follow the path, no veering off, you will see both these places as they are opposite each other.

We only stayed a week and kept finding new places all the time. Visit Rhodes and stay at the Ibiscus, you won't be disappointed.

The Hotel- The hotel is situated a fair distance from the old town (about 20 mins walk) but is still quite near a large number of bars, restaurants and shops. It appears to be an older building that has been refurbished to a very good standard. Our rooms were comfortable and clean (kept that way by a very efficient and happy staff) and had the best air conditioning system of any hotel we've stayed in, better yet, at no extra cost. We opted for a sea view costing £2 per person per night, well worth it as views from other parts of the hotel as not as good. We also went for the half board option, again £2 pppn, excellent value given the fact that meals were well varied and of high quality. A mention for the dining room staff at this point. We have never met more friendly, helpful and efficient staff anywhere. The hotel has no 'special' nights but a young chef was on hand each night to make one special dish in addition to the normal buffet and a chef was on hand each morning to make delicious omlettes and crepes. If you feel the need for a lunchtime snack the hotel can make very reasonably priced food ( try the club sandwich with fries, but get one between two persons unless you're in training for an eating competition ).

Other good eating/drinking places near at hand include the Finn Cafe,at the rear of the hotel and about 200 yards towards the old town for delicious cakes and pastries at low prices (look for the police cars, the cops love the place) and also Mikes Bar. Turn right leaving the hotel and walk past the Medditeranea Hotel the turn right again into a narrow street. Mikes is next door to a supermarket and he sells very tasty toasted sandwiches made to order an excellent lager etc.

The hotel has a small, circular pool of about 15 feet diameter and there 20 luxury sunbeds around it and no room for any more. The pool does not get full sunlight until about 1 pm because it is in a sort of quadrangle formed by the shape of the Ibiscus and the hotel next door.Getting a bed usually wasn't a problem since most guests pop over the 20 foot road in front of the hotel directly onto the beach ( coarse sand and shingle at the water's edge ).Sunbeds on the beach cost 7 euros for two and came with a brolly (per day).

The Town- The town is split into old and new parts and a harbour area. Most of the bars and restaurants are in the new part and the walled old town has the best shops. Every part of the town is within easy walking distance of the hotel but there is a local bus service with plenty of stops and taxis are inexpensive ( 5 euros from the harbour to the hotel, about £3.50).The old town is definitely worth a ramble around and the harbour is often filled with spectacular cruise ships.

You can also buy day cruises in the harbour area. We decided to travel on the high speed catamaran to the island of Kos, not cheap but a wonderful day out on a comfortable fast vessel. We also took a coach trip round the island booked at an agent near the hotel and hosted by a tour guide who really knew his island and its history and how to relate it to us without boring eveyone. We called at at small restaurant for a lunch break on this tour. It was extra, 10 euros per person but this was for a 3 course meal with wine (good) and water.

Not many downsides to this holiday, just two.The mosquitos are particulary active and very persistant and the other bloodsuckers, the time share touts, are the same.Mozzies are everywhere but the touts tend to congegate around the old town area, although beware! some of them hunt from motor scooters. Both pests are just a minor nuisance and certainly didn't spoil our holiday.

Would we go back? To the Ibiscus and Rhodes any day without hesitation.

An absolutely fantastic hotel in the very best location in Rhodes Town.

The hotel is opposite a super beach - Elli Beach which is really pleasant. The rooms aren't huge but are really comfortable with great bathrooms and an unlimited supply of hot water and super showers. I believe the sea view rooms were bigger. There were no sea view rooms left when we booked so we were delighted that we had an excellent view of the sea from our non-sea view room through the large space between the two buildings. You get great views of Turkey and it is interesting to see all the criuse ships pass as they head towards the commercial harbour. Close proximity to the bars and restaurants of the new town (just a couple of minutes walk) although you hear none of the noise from the hotel. The restaurant is excellent both in terms of service and food.

About ten minutes to the Harbour and the old town which is soooooooo amazing. Catch the tourist train from outside the town hall for a tour around the whole town then you can chose where you'd most like to visit. We have booked to go back next year as a week wasn't long enough to see everything. The hotel swimmming pool was nice and bigger than it looks on the pictures. Perfect for a swim before hitting the beach. We got loungers every day and we didn't get up until ten! June was a super time to go. Lovely temperature but not busy at all. One tip - choose a hotel on the east side of the island. the west beach is not as nice and quite windy. Also I wouldn't recommend staying in Ixia down the coast unless you like basing yourelf around the pool. Ixia has posh hotels but not a good beach andis, I think, a bit of a scruffy resort.

All in all I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like the Ibiscus - unless you like lots of evening hotel entertainment. There wasn't anything organised just a relaxing bar and terrace. Didn't need it anyway with so many bars and restaurants at hand. Also, if you've got children the staff are totally child-friendly and make sure they know all the kids by name and make a big fuss of them. Hope you enjoy Rhodes!

We are surprised that there are not many reviews about this hotel on the site. This is a very good three star hotel. The food and service is good although some of the reception staff could smile a bit more!
Book a sea view room if you can as the views are amazing.
This was our first trip to Greece and we were amazed at the beauty and charm of Rhodes Old Town. It really is special as well as Mandraki harbour. The trip on the little noddy type bus around Rhodes Town is great value for money at 3 euros and shows you lots of interesting sites. We would also recommend the day trip with First Choice to Marmaris if you want to see Turkey in a day and buy good quality rugs or gold.
Rhodes Town is also an amazing place to see the biggest cruise ships we have ever seen. All in all a great trip although the weather was a little wet.
