Hi just come back from rhodes town first time abroad brilliant time after reading other reviews I was not expecting to mutch of the hotel.

On arrival it didnt look that promising as the outside still needs rendering. but the room I could not fault air conditioning was a blessing.Room cleaned daily ie linnen and towels only downside no sattelite tv .Staff curtious and pleasant.Only problem was I was half board you have breakfast in the lavita and evening meal opposite at the grand.breakfast was a bit of hastle as the restaurant is a little samll and you have the same menu each day.Evening meal at the grand is ok but your times to eat are after 8.15pm.we only ate there on three evenings because it is so cheap to eat out.I went with the intention to use it as a bed and breakfast as we had sutch a good deal with sunstar.I found a really good cocktail bar around the corner it is a little cheasy but a great welcome and cheap drinks called the {sunset bar}happy hour 7.00pm to 1.00am.

Rhodes town is the best central location to visit anywhere close to harbour and not to far from old town.Beach is pebbles a bit hard on the old feet but by a pair of wading shoes from local store.I will definetly go back to the same hotel again not next year though as I am off to zante for a change.Recommend trip to lindos on boat but go on catamarang as it is quicker than others also symmi is beatifull.greeks are wonderfull people very polite.

We went for two weeks in July and I thought I would add this review as a few of the reviews on here made us a bit concerned before we went. If anyone has been to Greece a lot (we've been 8 times to different islands) then La Vita will be a real surprise. By Greek standards it was the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Spotlessly clean, and all the mod cons you don't normally get in Greece. As for there not being a balcony, we had french windows that overlooked the beach. All you had to do was open them and position a chair and it was just as good, if not better as it can get pretty breezy here (although that is a good thing in July). Not all the rooms have french windows though, although those that don't are bigger. The lack of a balcony was a downside but it didn't spoil the holiday.

Rhodes town has already been raved about and I don't need to add to it, it is simply unmissable, although in answer to the person who said it was 'quiet' and for older people, they obviously didn't discover the main street for bars and clubs because that was as lively as it gets!

My advice is to hire a car because the Island itself is full of amazing sites and fantastic beaches. We were offered a car for 10 days for 400 euros in the same street as the hotel, but we walked around the corner and got a brand new rental (still had cellophane on the rearview mirror) complete with CD player and air con for 300 euros, so shop around!

Having been all over the Island the best beach on Rhodes we found was a few km further south from Faliraki, called Tsambika. Make sure to check it out, no English there though, they obviously hadn't discovered it. Also recommended is a climb to the Church of Our Lady, turning just before Tsambika beach, stunning views but a very steep climb.

Another highlight was without doubt Kamiros, an archaeological site described as the Greek Pompeii and it certainly lived up to it. We found it even more fascinating than Knossos in Crete, and certainly more impressive than Lindos (beautiful though Lindos is).

A drive round the southern roads of the Island will take you to some stunning views and beautiful little villages hidden away in the mountains and scenery completely different from the north.

However I wouldn't advise the day trip to Marmaris, it was horrible, tacky and commercial. Whats more they are operating a 'sting' where they meet you off the boat and assign you to a coach, this is only so that they can take you to various places such as a gold shop, a carpet makers etc and try and get you to part with your money. They call it a 'complimentary tour' but it's just a sales pitch, they are all on back-handers, don't be fooled. They even take you to restaurants on the harbour that are three times more expensive than the backstreets. If you want to do a day trip go to Symi instead!

Bit of a long review but these are all good tips, I would definitely go back.

I booked this holiday through the Teletext website. It was described as a four star hotel. When I rang to confirm booking it was explained to me that I would be staying in the La Vita Hotel but would be served my meals and have all the extra facilities of the Grand Hotel - its sister five star hotel which was next door.

The La Vita is not a four star hotel in my opinion. It is a very good three star. However it does not have a balcony (and I believe this is the only hotel in Rhodes which doesn't) nor does it have a pool. These are the only features which I felt didn't make it four star accomodation. I had no problems with my room - apart from the fact the television was pretty poor, other than that air con was good, room was really clean, there was a fridge, daily maid service.

The Grand Hotel was just over the road. Please bear in mind this is five star and I guess you are expected to behave in a certain way. I spoke to some people who experienced problems regarding what dress they could wear to dinner. I thought the food was pretty good and I also liked the breakfasts, eggs, sausages, cereals and so on although some guests felt the breakfast to be poor.

My only complaint is that I went through Sunstar Leisure, which was awful. On the way back we got delayed a massive 27 hours! The rep was close to useless, claiming all of a sudden he was only the rep for the transfers and not the hotel (despite the fact he did the welcome meeting and tried to sell us all further trips etc). So general service like that was awful and to be in a foreign country with no rep is a worrying thought, it was times like this that we missed the big tour operators. So yes I would stay at the La Vita again but never in a million years would it be with Sunstar Leisure.

My boyfriend and I are just back from Rhodes, staying in La Vita on a half board basis, and loved it.

There were a couple of problems, one being there was no balcony (apparently if you complain enough they will give you one of their 4 rooms with balcony, which we were told by someone on the last night). The rooms were lovely, very clean, air-conditioning (just ask for remote at reception), fridge (no extra charge for either), staff are lovely, however the key they give you controls the electricity, so when you go out anything in the fridge will be warm when you get back (take the key off the key ring).

The Grand Hotel where you eat your dinner is lovely, although a bit too stuck up for us, they treat you like second class because you are from La Vita, as you are not allowed in until 8:30pm to 9:30pm (bit late), and the people staying there have a choice of 7pm - 9:30pm which we would have prefered to have the choice. The main buffet is gorgeous. Also we were told that we could use the chinese and italian resaturants at no extra charge, this was not the case, you do have to pay.

We were early into the season so it was quite quiet, but the beach (at the aquarium), is lovely and can imagine it getting very busy. This hotel has the perfect location to everything you need. There is a cafe/bar called Tact, just the next street down past the Grand, and the owners are lovely, you get complimentary peanuts and popcorn (yes popcorn!!)and they just keep filling them up, its great, also the pints of lager are more reasonably priced there.
I recommend the day trip to marmaris (turkey), we got it with a company along the front of the harbour, it was 38 euros each plus 19 euros each port tax, so worked out at about £80, take planty of money as they take you to the bazzar which is great.

We loved our holiday and although there are quite a few complaints from me, there was nothing serious to spoil it. hope this has been helpful

My wife and I stayed at the La Vita Hotel for one week 9/10/04 on half board basis .

The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was atractivly decorated but we were disapointed to find that there was no balcony as stated on the website.

The room was very warm but the airconditioning did not appear to be working. Halfway through the week a guest from the hotel informed me that I should has been offered a remote controle on our arrival in order to controle the aircondishing. There was also a fowl smell coming from the bathroom.I spoke to a member of staff about the problem who said that the drains were the cause of the bad smell and promised to sort it out. When we returned to our room we were releived to find the odour had gone but not for long as the following day it had returned. After five nights we eventualey moved to another room one floor up on the sixth floor only to realise the lift was not working luckely this was resolved the same day.

Breakfast wa served from 7-9.30. The food was plentiful with a good veriety but always luke warm. Our evening meal was taken next door in The Grand Hotel. We were given a card to show when entering the restraunt which stated our dining time as 8.30-9.30 although guest from The Grand could dine from 7.00. We enjoyed Rhodes very much but would in future will take more care in choosing our Hotel!

Hi me and my boyfriend booked a last minute break to Rhodes as we both love Greece,we wanted a reasonably cheap holiday so we booked through teletext...without telling you the ins and outs i would NEVER book again with jetline travel they gave us the WRONG day that we flew out when i questioned this they then gave me the WRONG times in which we flew....we were told the hotel had a swimming pool of its own then the USE of 3 in the Grand this was true but the pool that La Vita were meant to have was non existant....we went half board in this hotel....when we got there we were told we would not e allowed to eat in the Grand as my boyfriend had no trousers with him....we were disgusted that we were not informed.....the hotels were very rude to us..maybe because we are young? needless to say we had to eat out every night of our 1 week holiday in which we paid half board for....the room in the La Vita was very very small and very stuffy although we did have airconditioning which didnt seem to work until on our FIFTH day we were informed we should have had a remote control to make it work on day of arrival...maid service was quite good but i would never stay here again and would be more choosy next time

Rhodes town on the whole was a wonderful place and i would recommend it but it derfinately isnt lively and is more for the middle age older people that are after a relaxing holiday..also not many english people here....if you are young i would go somewhere else! we had so many problems too many 2 mention on here!

We arrived in the early hours at the hotel we were booked into and after hanging around for over 2 hours were told that the hotel had been overbooked and they had to send us to another hotel in the vicinity. Nobody even thought to apologise to us for the mess-up. We were only there for a week and this start ruined a holiday that we had been looking forward to for some time. We won't be going back to the same area in the future. Nor will we be booking with the same company as we were told the hotel was on a lovely sandy beach - whereas on the contrary it was a very pebbly beach - so much so that we found it difficult to walk on - even wearing shoes.

We would not book this hotel again, which we did through teletext. We were not informed that there were no balconys, a real let down when I think almost all hotels in Rhodes have balconies.
We were told we had facilities of the Grand Hotel but, special nights were at a cost ie chinese and Italian. Also we had to eat at late sitting, making you feel very much second class citizens.
I dont think La Vita should have 4star rating as the facilities dont even warrant 3 star.
The meals served in the Grand, in my opnion did not come up to 5star rating.
Rhodes Town is a lovely place to visit with some beautiful boat trips. Night life is mainly centred round the many bars.

Firstly, don't wear high heels!! The pavements in Rhodes are either cobbled or very very uneven, which i found to my cost after breaking my foot falling down a hole!! Don't forget to take your E111 form also and if you have an accident go straight to the Hospital rather than calling a Dr. who will charge you! This Hotel, to me, was a real bargain! O.k. no balcony or decent view, bathroom a bit small, and no pool but cleaned daily and good choice of breakfast. You eat at The Grand, round the corner every night, which is fab! You can't eat until 8.30 and long trousers for men is required. You can use all the facilities of the Hotel, plenty of sunbeds, salt water pool, a bit cold, but everything clean. Probably at this time of year it's better suited to couples as only one street really applies to teenagers. Take the little train, about 5 euros, taxis 16 euros to airport and bus about 4.60 euros each way to Lindos. 4 euros to the Old Town in a cab. You don't need to book a taxi to and from the airport before hand as there are plenty around. Recommend Restaurant Antique for food.. round corner from Restaurant Victoria, and Cafe Nireas in the new market area.. first cafe along that strip opposite harbour. We tried Victoria as recommended by others but thought the food was pretty average although the waiters were very friendly.. but they tended to be wherever we went! We also didn't think much of Romeos in the Old Town for the same reason. Taverna Dionysos in Lindos was lovely.. a rooftop restaurant, with tasty food. We got such a bargain with this Hotel, the staff were very friendly and if there was a problem if you just went out for the day and came back it had been solved, so please be kind to them!! The sea near to the Casino is less choppy. 7 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella for the day. Supermarkets everywhere if you run out of things so don't worry. It was really hot for the whole of the 2 weeks we were there and we had a very relaxing time, despite my foot prohibiting me from doing any dancing!! |Have fun! By the way .. Thanks to the guy who had to be restrained on the plane who had been drinking and forced the plane to land in Athens on the way out... and also to the one who smoked in the toilet... what ....s!!!
