"Petit Palais Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Here we go then, having been to Rhodes Town twice before, staying at the Esperia Hotel and Athena Hotel, both of excellent standard, we passed by the Petit Palais many times and thought this would be a hotel we would like to stay in for a holiday.
We booked two weeks half board and on arrival found that the room was not ready, so we were put in a family room for the first night. Not really a problem. In the morning we were told that our room would not be ready until mid-day. Unable to unpack we asked if they could provide safe storage for our personal items. This didn't seem to be an option and a room suddenly became available.
HOTEL PHONE. Most important please DO NOT use Hotel phone. Having used the phones in previous Hotels, named above, we were totally amazed that after the first week, when enquiring about our current phone bill, we were told we owed 63 euros (approx £43!), having only made three calls, totaling approx 30 mins.
STAFF.In general Hotel staff were friendly and polite.FOOD. Now then, my wife would say it was like queuing for school meals and I have to agree. Everyone raved about the pizzas that would be prepared in front of you but unless you want to wait all night just to get a slice, forget it! Having read recent reviews of the hotel we expected better meals than the run-of-the-mill food available.
ROOM. The room was very spacious. It would have been nice if you could stand and shower without having to hold shower head in your hand though.
GUESTS. Not forgetting, with this hotel also being all-inclusive, you will come across people not necessarily of british nationality. Who we found to be quite rude, staying at the pool or bar all day getting quite drunk.
ENTERTAINMENT. This should not be missed!Never in my life have I seen an Elvis Presley lookalike stand at approx 4ft 6in. I'm sure he was taller! Tears of laughter poured down both our faces as non-Brits enjoyed the show!
Anyway that's the hotel sorted.RHODES TOWN. Rhodes Town is unbelievable it has everything you could wish for. We found a great bar just up from the hotel called Capo Al Metro - good snacks, great people. You have the windy beach which keeps you cool whilst sunbathing (don't forget your lotion!). We went on a tour of the island, with Kosmar, which was very good. A long day, but worth while.
OLD TOWN. Just get lost and enjoy! Museums are well worth a visit.
MANDRAKI HARBOUR. Just to mingle and see boats.
ON THAT NOTE WE WILL RETURN TO RHODES
BUT NOT TO THE PETIT PALAIS.

Overall Hotel Rating:
for our stay at the petit palais we enjoyed it. the accomedation is not aimed for children mostly older couples the pool area is very small so if u would like a sun bed there you would have 2 be up realy early to get one,
all inclusive was worth it for the drinks.entertainment is very poor there is a karioke on wednesday and doesnt finish until about 1 0' clock in the morning so u would not like the room amove the bar.The food is not as good as the only thing they have is pizza every day which is very nice but gets a bit boring rice and potatoes which they give a different name 2 so u think they are different but they are just the same.the snacks during the day are useless it is pointless having them it is cold pizza from yesterdays tea and ham cheese and letuce muffins.
the staff are very nice and very helpfullyou get clean towelels and ure room cleaned every day. If u like just relaxing on the beach rhodes is not the place to go as its all shale and all rocks and stone it cuts all your feet we went to rhodes in may and the weather wasnt that great we had a couple of daysof rain but the rest sunny. if u dont mind walking there is a sand beach about 10-15 minutes away from the hotel also accross the road is shops that are very handy for buuying presants
if you do visit this accomadation i hope you have a nice holiday

Overall Hotel Rating:
Our holiday at the Petit Palais was excellent. The hotel was immaculate with a welcoming and well decorated reception area. Our room was very clean and spacious and the bathroom was the best I had ever seen.
We went all inclusive and we felt we got our moneys worth. There was a great choice for breakfast which catered for all nationalities. Lunch was a scaled down version of Dinner which had plenty food to choose from. The pizzas were amazing. Regular burgers, chicken and chips were not available which didn't bother me but for some families there with children it was a problem.
The pool area was small for the size of hotel but very pleasant. As mentioned in other reviews, the tiles around the pool were very slippy.
The hotel is in a perfect location in town. Only two minutes walk to both beaches (The Agean and Med join together at Rhodes). Only two minutes to Bar Street and 15 - 20 minute walk to the Old Town which you must visit.
We also went on the noddy train which gives you a tour round the resort for only 3euros.
I would definitely go back to Petit Palais or try more hotels in the Mitsis Group. This hotel deserves its 4* status

Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a wonderful week in Rhodes Town. Our party consisted of my husband and myself, his brother, wife and 6 year old and my 70 year old mother-in-law.
The resort itself couldn't be equalled - in fact my husband said he could quite happily settle down there!
The Old Town with its crusader fort and picturesque cobbled streets, many quaint squares and plentiful street bars, restaurants and shops is full of history, charm and character - day or evening. Spent most of our evenings walking about and even went back for more in the daytime! The locals have got to be amongst the friendliest we've come across in our travels and seemed to go out of their way to be helpful and pleasant.
The beach is long and although in some places pebbly or shingled, the further you walk(past the Casino and Elli's nightclub) the more 'sandy' it becomes.
When we were there it was quite breezy until just past the Casino. Here the wind dropped and it was more sheltered and warmer.I would recommend the scenic train trip at 3 Euros each. It takes you all around the resort and up to the Acropolis. Well worth the money.
We took a 2 our boat trip to Lindos, again to be recommended. The sugar cube houses and cobbled streets are from another era! The Acropolis is quite a walk uphill which can be exhausting in the heat, but well worth the treck, (my 70 year old mother-in-law insisted on getting to the top!). We had an hour to swim in the crystal clear bay and had a bite to eat at a beachside bar.I would recommend the Petit Palais Hotel in every respect but the food. My first impression on arriving from the airport (20 minutes by Taxi) was favourable. The exterior of the hotel was inviting and well maintained and I have to admit I was relieved! The hotel was spacious, airy and clean with maid service every day and friendly, pleasant restaurant, bar and reception staff.
The outside seating area at the front of the hotel was comfortable and we loved relaxing there with a cold drik to watch the world go by.The Sunday evening Greek dancing at the hotel was a fun way to spend an hour or two.
First impression of the pool was that it was way too small to cater for the whole hotel (208 rooms and around 30 sunbeds). However, it never became crowded as most people were content to sunbathe or lounge around the pool and take an occasional dip to cool down. This was probably due to the lack of children in the hotel. The tiling around the pool was quite dangerous when wet and one lady fell whilst we were there. The Petit Palais doesn't seem to cater much for children. It was ideal for my husband and I, but it could be quite boring for my 6 year old nephew. The children were few and far between with nothing for them to do. It seemed to be aimed at the older market and young couples.
We were there on an All Inclusive basis, which I would not recommend. Although for me it was ok as I like a wide variety of unusual dishes and salads, there was nothing much to suit children or plain eaters (no chips at all during the week we were there). The freshly made pizzas were much sought after and there usually a queue to watch them being made and cooked in a stone oven - delicious! The dishes were too unusual for the rest of our party and we ended up eating out a few times. The worst meal was lunchtime. Hardly worth the effort!
A stroll along Mandraki harbour and an ice cold drink of freshly squeezed orange juice is to be recommended!
All in all I would recommend Rhodes Town to anyone (have done to my 22 year old son and his girlfriend) - there's something to suit everyone . Petit Palais hotel is ideal for couples and older people but certainly not if you have children with you

Overall Hotel Rating:
Having booked this holiday last minute we decided to look up the hotel on the internet. It seemed very nice, games room, jacuzzi, childs pool, swimming pool with terraces and pool service among other things. We had booked all inclusive so were really looking forward to it.
On arrival in Rhodes at 5 a.m. we were given a letter saying our room would not be available until 11 a.m. and that we would spend the first night in the Grand hotel. (if you could call it a night by this time). At 11 a.m. we went to the Petit Palais and at first glance were pleasantly surprised. It has a lovely lounge area at the front of the hotel where you can sit and enjoy a drink. However we soon realised that as we had a very lively 2 year old with us and the hotel was situated at a very busy road junction this was not the place for us.
The rooms were really nice, extra large beds, spotlessly clean, and we had a very large balcony to sit on. On top of this the staff had put a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine in our rooms to compensate for them not being ready when we arrived, which we thought was a very nice gesture.
Unfortunately by the end of the day our illusions had been shattered a little. The jacuzzi and the childrens pool was combined, the adult pool very small, only about 30 sun loungers (210 room hotel), no pool service and to cap it all the tiled floors around the pool were very dangerous.
There was no games room only two machines unplugged under the stairs. In the end we decided to go to the beach (this was pebbles and very sore on the feet).
We were beginning to wish we hadn't bothered. We had heard Lindos was well worth a visit so decided to book a boat trip for Saturday. It was a lovely day out, the beach at Lindos is sandy and very shallow but beware. We didn't want a sunbed as we only had an hour until we had to go back on the boat so we spread our towels out on the beach only to be told we can't do that because it is reserved for sunbeds so we had to pay 4 Euros for a sunbed for an hour. On the way back to Rhodes the boat stops and you can jump in the sea and swim.
We also went to Faliraki Water Park, what a place. The best 19 Euros worth on the island. Don't book it through your tour company though because it only takes about 15 minutes to talk to the bus station at Mandraki harbour and the bus to the Water. Park is free.
In the evenings our favourite pastime was walking around the old town. It is so beautiful especially at night. We did go and see the Light and Sound Show but didn't think it was worth the money, in fact we found it rather boring.
Buses and taxis are cheap in Rhodes, 8 Euros to Faliraki beach which is sandy, however we found that if we went nearer to the harbour the shingle wasn't so bad and we spent most of our days here. A good tip through is to take a pair of old sandals that you can wear in the water. All in all we had a really good time in Rhodes but would not recommend going to the Petit Palais on an all inclusive basis. The Pepsi tasted like it was watered down, there was only one type of beer (German) included, breakfast was okay, we tried lunch a couple of times and decided we wouldn't bother again. They did however do a good pizza in the evening - okay if you like pizza every night. On the last night we decided to eat out. For 54 Euros we all enjoyed a four course meal with wine.
This is a good hotel for couples who just want to laze by the pool all day but if you have children, particularly young ones, there is absolutely nothing for them to do.

A newly furbished hotel of a good standard. Staff very friendly and room was of a good standard, located close to the beach and access to Old and New Town was good. Nice bar and restaurant and the 1960;s bar had a good selection of oldies if you are into that (new town)Just be aware of prices that are charged in the tourist areas for food and drink....I learnt the hard way, 65 Euros for two fish dishes for lunch.
