"Salora Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Before visiting Stegna beach we read other reviews which suggested that the resort is particularly quiet. These reports are correct ..... Stegna Beach is indeed very quiet. We found the beach to be perfectly acceptable, and the limited number of 'supermarkets' were sufficient for our needs. There are no other shops in Stegna which for us is wonderful news (I travelled with my 22 year old son and we both will do anything to avoid shopping as a pastime)but this may not suit everyone.
There are more than enough tavernas for a 2 week stay. Again, we studied other reviews which suggested that the Knights Castle taverna was consistently the best but this was not our experience. We sought out the tavernas used mostly by Greeks and found the Knights Castle to be of a much lower standard. It depends what you want I guess, but the food at some of the less anglicised tavernas was far superior ... in particular, the perigiali (just beyond the German hotel but just before the large taverna by the cliffs)was outstanding - a limited menu, but what they do they do well. We saw a party of 29 Greeks descend upon that one, and they were there for a good reason.
If you do go to Stegna our view would be that it is an excellent base from which to holiday on Rhodes. If you want a quiet day or two on the beach its an ideal spot but its also well placed for access to other areas of the island if you hire a car .... and hire a car you must if you want to get out and about. After 4 days in Stegna I was going stir crazy, so we hired a moter from Extreme Car Rental and visited much of the island during our second week. It was good to get about, but equally good to return to the relative tranquility of Stegna after some of the busier parts of the island.
We enjoyed visiting Rhodes old town, the Tsambika monastery (for the view), the western side of the island which has better scenery than the much vaunted but somewhat disappointing Lindos, Epta Piges and Prasonisi, all of which were within relatively easy reach.
The accommodation at Salora studios was as good as any I have ever had in Greece, and a good deal better than most. The owner (Jack) was around and available, but not 'in your face' and we were happy with the overall standard of the accommodation and its upkeep. Its a pity the charge for air conditioning was so high .... we may have been tempted to use it had it been a little less expensive.
All in all, we are happy to recommend Stegna Beach but you will need to be prepared to venture out.

We found Stegna very relaxing and easy going. we had a fabulous holiday staying at the SALORA Studios with Jack the owner who was a lovely man who couldnt do enough for you.
There was enough places to eat at somewhere different for a fortnight(just) and didnt have a bad meal in any one of them.
Our favourite was the KNIGHTS CASTLE which is the last restaurant on the way out of the resort. The food and hospitality of the lovely family that own it are second to none.(and they even have comfy chairs)
The Greek night at the EN PLO taverna was very enjoyable every saturday night and they get everybody joining in if they can. Very nice meal there too.
I must mention MARIA'S restaurant too. the food there was exellent home cooked real greek stuff and was delicious and less expensive than anywhere else. She was a lovely lady and we often went home with a couple of oranges in a bag after eating there at lunch time.
Our favourite watering hole was MERCEDES BAR where Chris, Nikos and Jimmy looked after everbody. They were all very friendly and genuine with it. We had a good few nights in there.
Our rep was Colin who was very nice and was really helpful as one of our party required medical assistance. He gave us details of the clinic and made sure we had a card with all the details we needed on it. (thanks Colin)
The boats came in about noon. and left about 3ish. But there was plenty of room for everybody on the beach so it didnt bother us in the slightest.
The beach was a little pebbly so take your jellies if you got sensitive tootsies. but all in all was very pleasant.
A return in the not too distant future is on the cards for us, we enjoyed it so much.
Rhodes Old Town is well worth a visit and is steeped in history. (and nice leather shoes) We hired a car for 3 days and got out and about to lots of lovely places. we loved the south of the island where the two seas meet.
All in all a lovely 2 week holiday with just enough going on and no lager louts to disturb the lovely peace.
We will definitely be back!!!

Stegna is really beautiful but is very quiet - we only went for a relaxing week so we thought it was brilliant, but if you're looking for a resort full of nightclubs then Stegna is not for you! The beach is beautiful, sand and shingle mixed together, the water is crystal clear - you can even see little fish swimming at your feet! There are some really lovely restaurants all along the promenade (which is actually the only road in the resort!). We particularly liked the Stegna Star and Antonis Restaurant - both look onto the beach, the staff are really friendly, the food is to die for (especially Shrimp and Mussels in Tomato and Cheese sauce at the Stegna Star), and the cost is amzingly inexpensive - throughout the whole week we paid around £12-£15 each for each meal, including 2 courses and copious amounts of wine!
As for the Salora Studios, we were amazed at how clean it was considering we were expecting something very basic! Jack the owner came to welcome us the first morning with a bowl of fresh apricots hand-picked from his garden, and he had left a bottle of water for us in the fridge for when we arrived in the middle of the night! It was a 30 second walk to the beach - everywhere in Stegna is near the beach, as the resort stretches along the seafront and is only about 50 yards deep. The accommodation was clean, spacious, and nicely furnished as well.
As for nightlife, the nicest bar in town in Mercedes Cocktail Bar, run by Mercedes and Chris - lovely friendly atmosphere, and delicious cocktails for only 4.50 euros!
I'd thoroughly recommend this holiday to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with leisurely days on the beach and chilled out nights at nice restaurants overlooking the beach and chilled out drinks at a cocktail bar afterwards.

We visited the Salora Apartments in Stegna at the end of August 2003. We booked a flight off the internet and booked the accomodation seperately (also over the internet). This worked out cheaper than booking a package deal. The taxi from the airport cost 25 Euros.
The apartments were immaculate and Jack, the owner, extremely helpful. We paid him to take us to the airport on our journey home.
Stegna itself is a lovely place, but VERY quiet indeed. My husband and myself wanted somewhere relaxing, but found it a little too quiet for our tastes.
We enjoyed our days on the beach (apart from 11.45am - approx 2.30 pm when our peace was absolutely shattered by 4 boats of tourists descending on Stegna beach EVERY day)!
Don't think I'd visit again, but only because there are too many other gorgeous places in Greece, and, although we DID enjoy it, it isn't special enough to warrant a second visit.
One bit of advice - we visited a lovely restaurant quite a lot, if my memory serves me correctly it was called 'The Castle' (anyway, if I'm wrong it's the very first restaurant on your left hand side as you come into Stegna). Food / service was first class.

We stayed in the Salora Apartments for 2 weeks from the 16th July. Very nice clean apartments - Jack (the owner) was always around if you needed anything. If you wanted the air conditioning it costs 7e per day which we thought was a bit expensive and the TV cost 5e per week. At least you have the option if you wanted it.
The weather was scorching hot at least 35deg - not a cloud in the sky and it was great watching people trying to walk in the sand! Watch out for the Mozis we were bitten to death. Nice padded sunbeds with umberella on the beach costing between 5 and 6 Euros per day depending on which ones you sat on. The beach had a bit of shingle but not too bad and there are lots of fish to see around the rocks if you fancy a bit of snorkeling. Nice cold showers on the beach too to wash all that salt and sand off on the way home. The beach was really quiet until the big boats arrived at 12noon with about 100 tourists and they stayed until 2pm. There were usually between 2 and 4 boats every day.
The resort itself was VERY quiet with only 2 popular restaurants called En Plo and Stegna Star the later was by far the best. The other restaurants were empty with no-one or maybe a couple in there and no music or atmosphere. A meal for 2 was about 25e and everything was BBQ'd only Stegna Star offered pasta and a much more varied menu than meat and chips.
There were about 4 mini markets but again very small with not alot of choice although they had plenty of cigarettes at 25e for 200.
We got a hire car for 70e for 2 days with air conditioning and went to Rhodes town and Lindos which are about 20mins drive. Manos will try and rent you a car for at least 160e which is a total rip off!
If there had been a better choice of restaurants to eat at and more than just one bar it would of been better but we still had a really good relaxing holiday.
