This was our first time to Rhodes and it certainly won't be our last! We have been to quite a few Greek Islands and Rhodes ranks up there with the best of them. Stegna is great! Small, but everything you want is there and it still has a Greek feel about it. I feel the one reviewer who said the Mercedes bar was 'cheesy' was being a little unfair. We went in there at least 5 times and didn't see any chavs at all. Christos who runs it is a great host, who loves his job (who wouldn't!) and looks after his customers with great care. Everyone who worked there were so friendly. The Stegna Star Restaurant food was very good and the service very fast, but you could pick any one of the eateries and come away satisfied. The Beach is right on your doorstep, and as other people have said, Charlie will save you the sunbeds if you ask him. (he's such a nice chap too). The Beach does get busy around lunchtime when a couple of tourist boats come sailing in and off-load their passengers for a couple of hours, but then you don't really notice them...too busy sunbathing! The road down to Stegna is steep with a 2 hair-pin bends, but it's ok....I've been down a lot worse! You really must go to Rhodes Town...it's fantastic! But you do need more than one day to see it all and do try to go at night if possible...it's like a magic kingdom. It's very clean, the people are great, and there's lots to do. Mind out for the time share people, I tried to brush each one off in a different language, but they all seemed to speak every language I threw at them. Just say you're looking for your car and haven't got time...this seems to work. Anyway, they are only on the front bit of Rhodes Town, by the harbour...Pests! Onto the Stegna Mare Apartments. Very clean, very close to the beach, central in Stegna, right next to a good restaurant, friendly staff. A couple of downsides are the noisy Rooster with a sore throat who wakes you at 4am EVERY morning. The rooms are a bit too close to the Sun & Sea Apartments and Stegma Star either side, so sometimes you get the noisy loud mouth coming home at 3-4am (there's always one!) We made some great friends in Stegna, my son (10) was quite tearful when we came away....I think that says a lot about the people and the place.

The Stegna Mare Apartments are spacious and extremely clean and well kept. Room was cleaned daily and towels were replaced every two/three days. The apartment owners Charlie and Tsambika were lovely and friendly and went out of their way to make your holidyay enjoyable. The apartments are exceptionally well situated, being literally 10 metres from the beach and Charlie and Tsambika also own the sunbeds/parasols on the beach directly opposite the apartments. It does cost 3 euro per day for sunbed hire but charlie will reserve you a good spot if you ask him in advance the night before. The resort itself is very quaint and not ideal for party animals as it is quite chilled and relaxing. Plenty of good restaurants but there are only 3 bars. Jacks bar being one of them this was our favourite as the locals spent a lot of time in there and it was a good atmosphere. The locals are motorbike mad and Jacks have a live rock band every Tuesday night and all the locals come flooding down from nearby Archangelos on their bikes so it turns into a bikers bar. If you are bikers like we are it is great to people watch. Mercedes bar is about 100 yds away and is a typical cheesey brit bar, not our cup of tea watching chavs being drunk and lairy doing bad karioke til 3am. Finally there is the no name bar, so called because it is new and has not been named yet but the food was the tastiest and best presented food we had all fortnight. The resort is lovely but it is quite isolated being about 1.5 miles down a steep series of hair pin bends from Arcangelos and there is a bus which takes you out of the resort at 08.30 but the only bus back in is about 3pm so need to be careful not to get caught out as it can be difficult to even get a taxi from Archangelos back to Stegna. There are two car hire companies in Stegna itself so all is not lost. We shared a taxi to Lindos (one of the restaurant waiters rang for us)with another couple for a night out (beautiful place, must be seen)and taxi was about 27 euro each way. There are loads of taxis in Lindos till about 3am so easy to get back. Going back to the Stegna Mare Apt there was only one down side and that was the air con prices which were 65 euros per week which we thought was extortionate but it was needed. Apart from this a fantastic holiday

The apartments were absolutely spotless, the room was cleaned dsily and the bed linen/towels changed 6 out of the 7 days we were there. We were self catering so that is the reason I have not ticked the box above. The owners Charlie and Tsambika were very helpful too.

As we were self-catering I haven't ticked the boxes for food and service but the Stegna Mare apartments were spotlessly clean and towels were changed regularly. The Staff both here, and the Stegna Star next door, were very friendly but watch out for Charlie's wicked sense of humour! When we were there (late June 2008) the night-time temperatures were in the high 20s so don't consider the air-con to be optional, we wouldn't have slept without it, but it is quiet in operation.

Stegna is a small resort offering a quiet holiday with very good food. Not a lot of night life with only one bar but there are plenty of tavernas to chose from. We stayed in the Stegna Mare Studios which are fairly new and very well kept - the best accommodation we have ever stayed in. Sheets and towels changed daily (except Sundays), the owner Charlie is very helpful and full of local knowledge. Best places to eat are the Stegna Star restaurant - next-door which also has excellent apartments - and the Knights Castle although service is a little slow so be prepared to wait. Water sports avaiable locally. Only limited transport so hiring a car is a must to get around approx 70 euros for a small car for two days with air con. From Rhodes town in the north to Prassonisi in the south it is only a 3 hour drive so you can see the majority of the coast easily. A visit to Lindos is a must, very pretty and very hot - take sensible shoes.

All in all an excellent relaxing break. Don't expect late nights it is more of a sleepy resort but well worth a visit.

Just returned from a two week stay in Stegna. Had an excellent time - two weeks of hot sun!.

Stegna Mare apts are excellent - cleaned every day and absolutely spotless. Plenty of clean towels and nothing was too much trouble! The resort itself is quiet but this is what we like - just lazing round in the day and going out to eat in the evening. You must visit Knights Castle - ate there most nights - owners really friendly - had peach snapps given after every meal and the owner gave us mandarins from his own tree. Plenty of choice on menu and cheaply priced. We had three main meals, half a carafe of wine and a soft drink and came to equivalent of £13!

Have read lots of other reports of delayed flights but must say our flight times to Bristol were excellent and dead on time each way. We have travelled with Kosmar three times before and always found this to be the case. Jean our rep also very friendly. We found the Greek people to be extremely friendly especially in the Stegna Star taverna near our apartments. We went at a quiet time of year and by the end were just about only ones left in resort! but still had plenty of sunbeds left out. Also caught bus to Lindos one day. Bus comes once a day and drops you to Archeangelos where you catch a bus direct to Lindos. On way back we had to walk from Archeangelos to Stegna but one of the waiters from the taverna stopped to give us a lift back (having to remove things from his back seat).

All in all had an excellent time and would definitely visit again.

Just returned from a relaxing fortnight in this quiet resort. There are only about 25 Tavernas along the strip, all serving basically the same food at about the same prices (after the meal in Marias we were given oranges to take away, best oranges ever) Went to Mercedes most nights, staff very friendly especially Nichos.

Resort is very quiet and car hire is a pleasant way to get out of resort. we hired an Atos from Extreme cars in stegna - 140 euros for 6 days. Boat trips from Rhodes and Lindos, anchor in the bay in the early afternoon and use a Taverna which is only opened up for their use. Sun beds cost 6 euros for 2 with umbrella.Apartments were the best I have had in Greece, Tsambika, the cleaning lady, is a real treasure and very thorough. Knight's Castle (on left coming into resort) is a very nice retaurant with giant screen TV and again very friendly staff(owner Tony and his wife)Holiday in resort was fine and Jean, our rep, very helpful.

Only sour note was Kosmar's flight times. Found no-one flying with Kosmar, who were kept to the original flight times. Despite that a good holiday was had.

First of all the good points about this holiday.
We travelled to Stegna in Rhodes in June 05 with Kosmar. Stegna is a lovely traditional Greek village with a nice atmosphere. The beach is long and golden and the sea is safe. Despite lots of trippers arriving on two huge boats every day, there is ample room and sunbeds available.
The Stegna Mare apts are extremely spacious and very well appointed. They are spotlessly clean and air conditioning is available.
Stegna is based at the foot of a mountain and is very picturesque.

There is, unfortunately, only one bar (Mercedes Bar), but there are plenty of restaurants.
The best restaurant is only a five minute slow walk out of the village along the coast road and is called the KNIGHTS CASTLE RESTAURANT. The food was absolutely superb, the best we have ever tasted in Greece, the service was fast and helpful and the restaurant itself was large, comfortable, open air and extremely well appointed (in the style of a castle). The owners were friendliness itself. We ate there every single night, as the choice on the menu was so varied. If you go, try the Lamb with mushrooms dish - it is melt in your mouth !!!
Also, take a trip to Rhodes Town on the bus. The shopping area is wonderful - full of small medieval alleyways, full of shops and some fantastic photo opportunities thanks to the huge medieval castle walls.

A couple of bad points re the holiday : Although our flight was unaffected, many were. Not sure what on earth is happening with Kosmar, but the shoddiness of the treatment of others re their flights home and changes to them, have made us wonder whether its worth travelling with them again (and we have done for the last 3 years).
This, coupled with the fact that on the last day we were squashed into a Mercedes Taxi with two other people plus all our luggage and hand luggage and taken to the airport and then left to our own devices has really made us think that Kosmar had lost the plot. The taxi journey (25 mins) was ghastly, with 3 of us squished in the back, hot, sweaty and so uncomfortable we could barely get out at the end of the journey.

One very important thing to say about the Stegna Mare Apartments is all of the balconies face the Stegna Star balconies and are SO close that there is only about 15 feet gap between the two. Basically you open your curtains and looks straight into someone elses bedroom.
Like most people on hols you value your privacy and walk about with next to nothing on. Not at the Stegna Mare you dont.
The apts were huge, spacious and were cleaned every day - although Kosmars notice asking you to vacate your room every day at 10am for cleaning is a bit cheeky. What a huge disappointment for us that the balconies were so overlooked.

All in all though, we would recommend Stegna for a traditional greek holiday. The beach is long and sandy, the sea warm and pleasant and the atmos great.

Dont forget to visit the KNIGHTS CASTLE RESTAURANT though - its worth the 5 minute slow walk out of the village...... the food was unbelievably good.
