These apartments were traditionlly greek, basic but clean the staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble, the pool area was great and a lovely bar to sit and relax. No air conditioning so we took along our own fan heaven, The rooms were cleaned every other day and towels and sheets too were always clean.

Great places to eat or just go for drinks, the cafe next to the chemist did a great moussaka and staff were friendly, mikes bar further past the doretta beach did great cocktails and father and son were lovely people really made everone welcome. If you turned right from Alkmini and walked up the hill there is a lovely cafe bar on a terrace good views the owner was a laugh and made you welcome with the little english he knew. Turn left and down to the main road to your right and across the road is a traditional greek resturant offering good food and entertainment.

Worth hiring a car and going to old Rhodes town what a marvoulous day out only stayed for a week but could have stayed longer. If you are looking for a posh holiday this place is not for you but we had a lovely relaxing time and everyone who was leaving said they would be booking direct to return again as Thomson are supposed to be pulling out. We met some lovely people who stayed in the apartment next to us and they were staying on lucky things. Tholos is a lovely resort but could do with some more shops.

Arrived at the Alkmini Apts on 20th July staying for one week, i have to say the review before this is pretty acurate, we booked a studio apt and were dissapointed, although it looked clean enough, it was in need of a thorough overhall, as did the whole building, with exeption of the reception area, which was very nice.

The view from our room looked over what looked like Battersea power station. Although we had a large balcony, there was a down pipe and at the base of this was what looked like mice droppings, (and not just a few), that stayed there all week.

The cleaner came in twice in the week, but the infamous ";toilet bin";, was only changed once. The shower, as such was hand held with no bracket fixed to the wall, which made showering rather dificult. As for the self catering facilities, they were laughable, we didnt even have a kettle. The area is very rural, lots of noise at this time of year from the cicada's, which wasn't so bad near the beach, but, not so good when the temperature is very high at night and you need to sleep with the balcony door open. The food at the Swimming pool bar although ok was not particulary hot when it should have been and the weekly barbecue although the range of food was good, what should have been hot again wasn't.

On a positive note there was always hot water. Two restaurant's that were definately worth a visit were Sunset and To Petrino both very friendly and welcoming.

We were greatly disappointed with our recent holiday to Rhodes.
As a Family of three we arrived in Tholos on Saturday 11th June, to receive the keys to a 1 Bedroom apartment at the ALKMINI APARTMENTS. We were shocked by the shabby state of the apartment, and by the lack of basic amenities.

We had nowhere to store our clothes, as there was insufficient storage space. There was no table or chairs to sit and have a meal. There were no work surfaces on which to prepare even drinks, let alone any food. There were no power points in the kitchen area, which meant that the kettle had to be plugged into a socket on the floor, by the bed which was very dangerous. Hot water was only available in the afternoon, which meant boiling the kettle for washing etc. in the morning. The kettle was only 0.8ltr capacity which meant a lot of refilling and boiling.

There were no mosquito nets on the windows, which meant that we had to keep the windows shut throughout the night, which was quiet unbearable given the temperature. The louver window in the bathroom which was broken also let in mosquitoes.

The beds were made of pine frames with planks of rough sawn timber slats underneath, which were not even fixed. The bed lining itself was dirty, and twice we had to request the sheets to be changed, as they were torn. On one occasion a fly was found inside the folded sheet where it had been ironed flat in the machinery.

Soon after we had arrived the refrigerator was found to be defective. I reported this to the management, who assured me that it would be fixed. The next day I reported the problem to the Thomson Representative. It eventually corrected itself, the following day, when it defrosted, and discharged water everywhere. The representative was not much help at all.

The staff on the complex were quite indifferent, and disinterested in the needs of the guests. On the Thursday morning we were unable to get any food from the snack bar, as there was no staff to be found until 10.30.am. The reception was also unmanned so no help was available there either.

Every morning we was disturbed by the noise of hammering from the building site opposite the apartments. This was not mentioned to us before we made our booking. We have been to Greece before, and know what to expect with regards to their ways, however we shall not be returning to the ALKMINI APARTMENTS. This accommodation is less than basic, and was not worth the money.

The resort of Tholos was also a disappointment, to which we were later told by the representative that Thomsons are pulling out at the end of this season, which did not surprise us at all!
We shall think carefully before we use Thomsons again.
On the positive side, there are some good restaurants in Tholos, mickies bar and also Sunset. (FREE PEACH SCHNAPS AFTER YOUR MEAL!)

Booked on a Thomson ";Just"; package - very good price. Arrived early hours of the morning, greeted at Reception and shown to room.

Accomodation extremely clean and spacious, plenty of room and didn't feel like a sardines in a tin like some Greek accomodation can be.

Had a great time, the family that run the complex are friendly and sort out any problems without any fuss. The barbecue every Tuesday is a must!! Loads of food!!

Snack Bar and poolside bar are excellent and good value. Loads of sunbeds and pool is a good size with a kids section.

Tholos is a nice quiet resort. For excellent Greek food head for ";To Petrino"; just on the main road. For an all round good night with great staff and a laugh head for ";Dundee's"; and meet Nick and Luisa, the owners, guaranteed to make you laugh. Try the full english breakfast there for a meal to get you through the day!.

Overall - Great resort and accomodation - We'll be booking direct next year as rumour has it that Thomson are pulling out of that resort.

We have just arrived back from staying at the Alkmini Hotel in Tholos.

We arrived in the early hours of the morning and was greeted and shown to our apartment.

We found the apartment very basic but large and spacious. We were disapointed not to find air conditioning or mosquitos screens on doors. The apartment had a balcony and was very clean and tidy and had a small kitchen. It did have everything that we needed.

The pool was beautiful and had a small kids pool attached to it and was extremely clean, because it was such a small hotel there were always plenty of sun beds. There was a cafe bar right next to the pool which served food all day, all the greek specialities plus english breakfast and burgers and was of a very high standard. The pool bar stayed open till all hours of the morning and had a pool table.

The staff were all exremely friendly as they were all part of one family so they really cared.

The rep Matt was very helpful and helped us plan some wonderful excursions ( underwater safari, Rhodes town and Lindos a must).

Tholos is a quiet place with lots of bars, restaurants ( Sunset and Billy's) and tourist shops, there is a lovely beach 5 minutes walk from the hotel but it is very rocky, though there are sunbeds available and the sea is lovely and warm though a bit rough

If you turn right out of the hotel it will take you up to old Tholos which is worth seeing.

If staying in this hotel you must attend the weekly barbecue, it is organised by the owners of the hotel and the food is wonderful.

Overall we had a wonderful holiday and can't wait to go back to Rhodes.

The Hotel Alkmini is an absolute disgrace. The rooms are described as basic which is very accurate. Don't go here thinking you can even make a drink in your apartment. The kitchen facilities are really dirty as are the bathrooms. The hotel is really lacking in alot of care and attention. The is a general feeling of neglect about the place.

The location is very good, close to the village and the main resort. It was very quiet which we suited us. The best restaurant is by far Utopia. Here you can have traditional Greek food in lovely surroundings.

If you want peace and quiet then this is the place for you. The hotel is set on a little countryside lane mid way between a small resort and a beautiful typical Greek village Theologos.

It is very near the airport so some aircraft noise can be heard but it is not bothersome. Rhodes town which is split between the Old and the New is a half hour bus ride away for only 1.9 euros. (yes the buses do run when they are due.

The appartments are basic but do have an elecrtic kettle. They are very spacious with balconies facing East onto fields and greenery. There are only about 20 rooms so it never feels busy. The bar in the antrance is well equipped and the staff very friendly. It is a family run business.

The tavernas in the main stretch are much the same with similar menus. Head up to the village if you want to sample some true Greek cuisine. If you can say a couple of words in Greek such as thank you, good evening etc it goes down very well.

The swimming pool is clean and of an ample size. There is a snack bar serving food such as Greek salads and also burgers.

The beach is very stoney with small areas of sand scattered here and there. Not the type of resort for a beach holiday

All in all a lovely resort with lovely appartments
