Open quote

Having read many mixed reviews about this hotel complex before going on holiday, I had a few concerns. Nevertheless, given that we'd booked an all inclusive package holiday, our expectations were not that high anyway. Overall, we had a lovely, relaxing, 7-day break, with gorgeous weather in beautiful surroundings. The hotel itself was clean and stylish, set on a nice beach - more or less perfect if all you wanted to do was relax by the pool for a week.

However, there are a few things that should be included in the brochure. Bear in mind, though, that myself and my two teenage daughters are vegetarian, but my husband eats meat:

1. First of all the food (basic as expected) was okay for the first couple of days, then it became monotonous (you could basically predict what would be on offer every day - and basically this was the same as the day before. So, you can imagine that by the end of the week, we actually dreaded to go to the canteen. We have been all inclusive before, for 2-weeks, and didn’t get bored of the food until the last couple of days.

2. Vegetarian choice was really poor (unless you ate salad and pasta for the duration). Food wasnt adequately labelled either, so you didn't know what had meat in and what didnt. Furthermore, even the pasta was sometimes covered in a meat sauce, salad, pizza's had meat or fish on them (when there were plenty of meat choices for the carnivores among us). I actually asked one of the waitress one evening what was 'vegetarian', and she directed me to just some cauliflower and some potatoes (so much for protein then eh!?). Vegetarianism aside, my carnivorous husband was actually also fed up by day 4.

3. The pool had no shallow end. My kids, whilst they are able to swim, they are not strong swimmers, so I had to watch them like a hawk the whole time. And dont mention the lifeguard!!!! She often swapped her lifeguard duties with serving behind the bar, smoking and drinking at the bar, so not really a safe haven for kids.

4. The rooms!!! The rooms were really small for four people - to the extent that I'm covered in bruises on my legs from just passing the beds. Again, not a huge problem considering how little time we spent there.

5. Whilst the soft drinks and free ice cream was OK, the wine you were restricted to on the 'all inclusive package' was like paraffin (undrinkable).

havin just returned from Rhodes. The doreta beach lovely hotel, very clean maid service every day BUT the entertainment was absolutely rubbish i hav never been on holiday where i hav seen so many people playin cards in the evenings. There was nothin 4 teenagers 2 do at night.don't take for granted that there is a lifeguard as she sits more time beside the bar than the pool, in the 2 weeks we were there we saw her twice sitting by the pool.On a positive side the weather was great. If u stay 3rd or 4th floor u lucky as rooms hav just been modernised.

Having previously stayed at Doreta Beach hotel on 3 occasions ( the last been over 3 year ago), it was evident that standards had dropped in our parties opinion.Hoilday makers a mix of British & Dutch. Firstly catering standards were reduced both in the main restaurant & snack bar, with the same type of food laid out for lunch & evening meals. There was very little catering staff communication as drinks etc are now on a self service basis, so creating friendly banter is difficult! Secondly there were large groups of British teenages running riot with little parential control.Thirdly families fighting with each other & smashing the hotel up! In conclusion the hotel has a new manager, changes have been implemented, with refurbishment of accommodation etc to be complete in 2009 which they say will take take the hotel from Greek 4 star to a 5 star! I recommend the manager to take a look at the standards of the Alex hotel( German operator) which is adjacent to the Doreta for a comparisment or to set his standards. All in all the Doreta is looking a bit tied, it needs a major facelift, needs to improve facilities for all ( including families with young children).

just arrived back from doreta beach got back sat 4th, and the place is standard.
i have been to better hotels with so much more outside, here there is not alot.
food ok, drinks you have to pay after 11pm, and they are expensive, and spirits and beer are weak, but what else can you exoect when you go all inc.

lovely pool, entertainment everyday, this hotel have an animation team, there are 2 italians, one of them is seeing lydia the dutch animator and so they stick together they dont mingle with the brits, there is channell who is dutch, she is lovely very friendly with everyone, and yes we have a british animator danny from our hometown manchester. he is a young boy, but he is smashing, danny is 17 and i have a son the same age who didnt want to come on holiday with us as it not cool, and i would swap him for danny anyday. This boy really got my kids envolved, he always pushed my son in the pool and my daughter instantly fell for him, she is the youngest. He always came over and spoke to us and what a brilliant dancer he is and a hard worker, something you dont see in a 17year old.

In the evenings try mambos across the road thats where everybody goes after the evening entertainment has finished, even the animators, this is where you can sing and get danny to ask the barman for his cocktail drink which they have named after him, all in all we had a lovely holiday, didnt get to say bye to danny as he had disappeared and my daughter was upset as she had a card for him, so anyone going have a great time and let danny know if your from manchester. as he will certainly go out of his way for you esp if you got children

When I read all the comments about this hotel I was really dreading my holiday! DON'T listen to any of the bad comments The Doreta Beach was a fantastic place to visit and we couldnt of asked for a better place to go with the kids, they both really enjoyed their holiday thanks to the entertaiment staff!

All the staff at thte Doreta Beach were really welcoming and friendly, by the end of our first week all the staff knew us all by name!

The rooms are very basic, but who cares you only sleep in them! They are cleaned every single day with fresh towels.

The food was fantastic, we never got bored of it. The food is repeated every four days but you just have to try something new when it comes round again as there was always plenty of choice both for adults and kids.

One thing I will say is get up early for a sunbed as after 8 AM its like gold dust tring to get a bed as we found out!

Over all I and my family really enjoyed this holiday and was sad to leave, even my 5 year old cried! I would defo recomend this hotel to families with young children and older ones too.
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY X X X X

Have just returned from Doreta Beach..and have had a great time....after reading all the 'bad' review on this hotel i was really nervous having booked here for my family. When we arrived i thought the pink hotel looked dated and feared the worst...but the reception area was nice and checking into our room was easy.

We had a fabulous room on the 1st floor overlooking the sea the room was huge...5 beds and a cot...we booked 1 family room and 1 for 4 people but asked for them together and got 2 family rooms...which was great....they were very clean (i am sooo fussy and had gone armed with antibacterial spray etc!) rooms were cleaned every day clean linen and towels etc...air conditioning was a bit noisy in one room but not in the other. The corridors are very clean but basic....but you dont stay in them so it wasnt a problem. Pool was very clean and lovely...except the big pool is very deep 6ft one end and 8 ft the other...our kids had great fun in the baby pool though! Sunbeds do need to be reserved if you want one by the baby pool! The beach isnt the best as it is pebbly but it was clean! Finally the food was fantastic...loads of choice..fresh..and nobody got ill!!

So if you have booked then go and enjoy!!!

we went to doreta beach with worries after reading some of the reviews

When we arrived we went to our room with was basic but very clean and with a sea view, terrific.
The staff at doreta are very friendly and were always willing to help us.

Food was what you would expect for all inclusive, lots of different choices.
The kids loved the animation team, marco was funny and didnt speak great english he just smiled all the time, lydia was very attractive and was dutch along with Chantal who was brilliant, Sheran he was italian and was quite miserable at times. then there was hooray Danny from England, he was so funny, he always dragged my fella and kids up to dance, and my kids followed him around all day.
Evening entertainment was great, esp the sketch shows,(danny looked great as a woman) this started after the mini disco where my kids loved the crocodile song, and then argued who was going to be behind danny as he led the train.

After the all inclusive has finished go across to mambos where the kareoke is happening, then later some of the animators will join you for a drink and a chat, esp Danny who always came across.
we had a great time at doreta and so did the kids, which was obvious as they broke their hearts as they didnt want to leave, esp my daughter, and how nice Danny and chantal even came to wave us off, now you dont see that often.

Anybody going you will enjoy

First time we have booked our holiday with Bookable Holidays we booked 18-4-07 for May 9th very impressed with the service they gave us.

For once flights and taxi transfers to and from the resort of Tholos were on time.Arrived at the Doreta Beach 2-30 pm had to wait for our room.As promised we received sea view room 126 the room was very spacious for two people it had one very large double bed and one single bed the only critism we had of the room was the lack of draws to put clothing in the maids came every day cleaned the room and changed the bedding. The main restaurant served the usual self service we always found plenty on offer and never heard a complaint about the food while we stayed there.Don't leave your table for a minute without leaving something behind or the staff will clear the table and relay it they don't hang around. There is a snack bar towards the pool which is handy if you miss the main restaurant they serve breakfast until 12-00 then snacks and drinks all day.The main pool bar serves drinks from 10-00 am until 11-00 pm always clean and tidy but would advise warm clothing for the evening its a bit chilly in May.

Down to the beach which is sandy until you reach the waters edge would advise some sort of foot wear we purchased some beach shoes from over the road only 5 euro a pair. There are peddaloes and canoo's which are free of charge on a first come basis.Sunbeds are free but you have to be up early to find a level piece of ground or the Germans will be there. The main bar inside the hotel starts to get busy about 9-00 pm there are plenty of tables to choose from and the bar staff are on the ball they do their act of flairing bottles its entertaining especially when they drop a bottle.

The entertainment for children starts about 9-00 pm lasts about half an hour and then entertainment for the adults start and to be honest its the worst we have ever had to put up with it was mostly mime acts and two nights of karreokee we had to put up with. The problem is your getting your drinks A/I so your not going to go over the road and pay. They would have entertained better if they had put some decent music on and let the holiday makers do there own thing. The town of Tholos is basicly a street with four supermarkets a couple of bars and another 3 hotels nothing to do in the evenings.I think overall the Doreta Beach is o.k for one week where you can go and do nothing but rest.It appeared the children were well entertained we didn't hear any complaints.

The hotel is clean the food was good and the staff excellent but at the end of the day the poor evening entertainment spoilt it.If we were offered the Doreta Beech again we would probaly take it as we enjoyed our holiday overall and have no complaints about the hotel.

Doreta Beach Hotel not a 4 star rating I would say 2 star. Pool area good, beach was not the cleanest I have ever seen, and as for food repetative and boring. Would not recommend anyone to go to this hotel. Entertainment on an evening was null and void unless you were under 6 years old. Staff at the hotel were very good, rooms were cleaned every day but needed updating. Would not go again.

We stayed at the Doreta Beach Hotel 18 - 25 Oct 2006 All Inclusive. Our party consisted of myself and husband and 2 sons aged 15 and 12. We ALL loved the hotel and although NOT a UK 4* I think most people will realise that this hotel is classed as a Greek 4 * and I have certainly never seen it classed as otherwise.Yes the rooms are dated but clean and tidy. We stayed in a Maisonette that was very spacious and clean. The food was always good and a good range was offered at all mealtimes.
We found the staff VERY friendly and helpful, and if you take the time to speak to them they are more than happy to tell you about the Island.
We ate out a few times but that was out of choice rather than necessity, and took the bus to Rhodes Town twice during our stay.

The beach is pebbley and not the best we have seen but the previous week there had been a very bad storm on the island. But this aside it was not helped by the DISGUSTING mess left behind by the tourists (incidentaly its was about 98% british) staying there..................no fault of the hotel.............. On a daily basis there were plastic cups, plates and fag ends just left for someone else to clean up. There are many rubbish bins positioned all over the beachand throughout the complex, but it would seem that people just could not be bothered to clean up after themselves.
The entertainment was very good. A few 'very' amateur shows early in the week didnt give us hope for the rest of our stay BUT how wrong we were. The staff were very good at getting people involved with the games and even managed to get loads of people involved in a game where most adults AND children in the room lost one or more items of clothing at some stage of the evening. Very funny indeed.
The hotel has dogs and cats on the complex, but they are all very friendly, especially when you stroke them. Dont worry about them if you dont like dogs or cats as they keep themselves to themselves most of the day unless you pay some attention to them.

Rhodes Old Town is something else. A world heritage city, and very deserving of the title. Nearly 4000 years of history in the city walls. Every turn brought more 'wow's. So many that we went back again 2 days later to see more of it. But i think the one place that took our breath away was just near the 'alleged' site of the Colossus of Rhodes. As you walk towards the two pillars with the Rhodian Deers on, there is a large church just to the left. You have to go in there......a Greek Orthodox Church. My husband went in first and when i followed it was the first time i have seen him lost for words. I shall tell you no more......you have to see it to believe it!!!
The Doreta Beach is definately on our list to return to, the weather was good, temperatures were good, the staff and locals were very nice and Rhodes is gorgeous!

NEED I SAY MORE?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Doreta Beach Hotel. Four stars is perhaps rather generous, but the food is varied and plentiful, the staff on the whole courteous and pleasant, towels are changed daily and bed linen almost as frequently. Free ice cream and pop never stops flowing, and there is a constant buzz of organised games by the entertainment staff. We never experienced a shortage of sunbeds, and guests had a choice of lying on the hotel's own private beach, around the pool or in the lush grass of the gardens. Only saw one mosquito, and not a single wasp - but the women in the party still picked up 30+ bites each, presumably from some tiny creature in the long grass, despite liberal application of repellant.

The drinks did not appear to be watered down, as some staggering ascents from the pool bar, and thick heads the next day would confirm.

The only problem from a middle aged viewpoint is the NOISE from the entertainment lounge and the pool bar alike.
There were only two volume settings - loud, and louder still, and the incessant thumping beat at 1000 decibels drove most older people to other bars in the village, even though they had paid for all inclusive at Doreta. It was a blessed relief when planes went over at full blast from the nearby airport to drown out the disco beat.
The other drawback was the smoking, with virtually everyone puffing evil smelling cigarettes from morning till midnight. The thick fug permeated throughout the hotel, again driving many people away.

The noise and smoke would ensure I would never go back to the Doreta, but younger people may well enjoy it
