"Barbie Apts"

This is our 8th visit to Barbie apts, every year it gets better,Barbara and Vangelis have made adjustments over the years which includes extending the pool area,so that means more beds and a play park for kids which is fab.As always the apts are spotless and the food that barbara makes is better than some of the expensive restaurants in trianda! You will aslo find its much cheaper to have a few beers there too,Barbara and Vangelis are fab hosts and anything you need don't be afraid to ask them .Dont be put off by the dutch side and the brits side because everyone mixes very well, and we have many dutch friends that we have met over the years, and i reckon the brits have the best block because its very quiet!just what you need with a hangover in the morning, and one of barbara's big breakfasts will sort you out for the day! There is also 2 computers in the reception area with internet access which is great so you can check e mails from home, the barbeque's are a must, they are great fun and there is so much food available you won't go hungry! We go back every year because we love Barbie apts,we recommend them to everyone!

"Barbie apartments, Trianda, Rhodes"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

We have just arrived back from staying in the Barbie apartments in Trianda, Rhodes. The apartments are very clean with maid service every day. We booked a last minute deal and were not at all disappointed with the apartments, they were modern and very spacious we had a large bedroom with twin beds, wardrobe dressing table then two further beds in the living area and a kitchen diner, this was pretty well equiped although you would struggle to cook a full meal in the room, but hey who wants to cook whilst your on holiday! The pool was nice and they have just bought some new umbrellas and sun beds as at the begining of our holiday there wasn't enough. The resort is good with a good selection of places to eat. The beach was disappointing, it was very rough and not suitable for children to swim in. We decided to rent a car and visited Lindos for the day, it was beautiful the beach was amazing and is definately worth visiting. We also went to the water park which was also very good and was suitable for most ages. A trip to Rhodes town on the bus is also worthwhile the old town is really lovely, be warned the cafes in the square are very expensive we had two coffees and two milk shakes for 20 euros, they do not give you a menu and as we were only having a drink we did not think to ask for a menu to check the prices, we will know better next time. All in all we had a good holiday. A little word of warning the flight over was awful we had a night flight, for those of you who have never taken a night flight be warned it gets very cold. Also when we arrived at Rhodes at 3.30 in the morning four other flights from the UK arrived around the same time, all the luggage was chucked on the same belt so all the flights were mixed up took us an hour and a half to get our luggage. Also we had a mini bus to the apartments with no rep present and we had to work things our for ourself this was the same going home, we were picked up by taxis at 1.30 in the morning with no rep to help but this was not too much of a problem as we managed to work things out from the information screens. We would definately visit Rhodes and the Barbie apartments again.

"BARBIE APARTMENTS - EXCELLENT "

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

We stayed here June/July 2008 and were a bit wary after reading comments (moans)about "Dutch side/British side" and that towels were over loungers either overnight or very early and also that the people round the pool were very cliquey. This certainly was not the case when we were there. OK there were 2 different blocks and that MAINLY the Dutch were in the main block but that was never a problem. As far as the towels etc at the poolside - this was also not the case when we were there. Everyone around the poolside/snack bar were so friendly. Barbara and Vangellis have excellent apartments and are kept very clean by hard working staff. The food in the Snack Bar is excellent and great value for money. Nothing is ever a problem for them. We asked for more pillows after we arrived and they were in our apartment before you could blink. My parents (elderly) asked if there was a rubber mat for the inside of the bath (so they wouldn't slip) - there was a brand new one left in their apartment within a couple of hours. There are 2 Internet PCs, pool table and air hockey in the Reception area and also a big flatscreen TV. Resort is lovely and fabulous restaurants - Steak House, Bar Royal etc. We hired a 9 seater for a couple of days (5 adults) from Access car hire - excellent decision - we were round the whole island. Trianda was an excellent choice for us - lovely breeze at this side of the island.

The apartments are well situated close to the main shops , bars and restaurants. There are at present 2 blocks of apartments, one primarily for the Dutch and one for the Brits. The pool and bar etc are located at the Dutch side of the road. The owners, Barbara and Vangellis are very welcoming hosts and nothing is too much bother for them to ensure your holiday is both memorable and enjoyable.

The Barbie apartments are excellent.Very clean and spacious, linen changed about four times a week. The owners Barbara and Vangelis are very friendly and helpful, the food is good and well priced, a large mythos in the pool bar is 2.10 euros, which is better than some of the bars in the resort. The pool is lovely and clean. Well kept apartments in very nice gardens.

First time in Rhodes and absolutely loved it. Apartments very clean.Kitchen quite small but we only used it a few times. Air con a must! Food at the bar was very good. The pool was clean but if you want sun lounger you needed to be down at pool for 7am. We went to a restaurant called 'La Serra' every night and the food was excellent. The staff were so nice and nothing was too much bother. It was always busy so be prepared to wait but it is well worth it. It has internet cafe so the children will not get bored waiting on meal. The old town was beautiful and well worth a visit. The beach is very stoney so buy beach shoes which are very cheap in local shops. We loved Rhodes and would definitely go back again. We would definitely stay in Barbie Apartments again.

Barbie appts are run by vangelis and barbie the appts are situated near to resort centre with plenty of shops and restaurants the beach was a 10 minute walk at most its pebbly and the sea is quite rough but the wind was glorious and 2 beds only cost 5 euros well worth it
The appts were clean and we hired air con for the week a must as it was 36deg at least the pool was nice only downside was the beds were all taken by 10am by mainly young families
Rhodes Old Town is very nice cost 9 euros by taxi lots of historical sites and also great for shopping

I have to say, the apartments were very clean and maid service came every day. The hosts were quiet but pleasant enough, although they seemed to be always busy and seemed to work 24/7 - up early in the morning and working late at night. The only time they seemed to join in was on the Greek night, which is a must! We really enjoyed it. The pool is quite cramped and, as in other reviews, you have to get up early to get a bed in the 'right spot', but it seemed clean enough and ok for kids. However, the pool is located in the main building, where reception and bar is, we were placed in the apartments across the road (don't make the mistake of carrying your cases up to reception when you arrive - you may have to carry them back down again to go across the road - there is no ramp)! The road leading to the Barbie isn't very well lit - so as previously said in a review - a small torch might be handy for older patrons.

Trianda is nice and small enough to be friendly but large enough to offer plenty of bars and restaurants. We found most of them reasonable and food was good. Also found the local chinese and pizza places to be good - had a few takeaways and bottles of wine on the balcony, whilst the little chap had an early night. We had a holiday in Faliraki ten years ago and took a taxi over there one day to find it totally changed - my god - it even had an Asda and Sainsbury's! Talking of taxis - they are very reasonable and as long as you ask the price up front, they are much cheaper than booking trips with the rep - also the buses are pretty frequent and even cheaper! If you feel like a walk one day, you can walk along the beach road and past some hotels to get to Ixia. It takes about 20-30 minutes but is one way of catching the sun instead of sitting around. Rhodes Town is excellent and you need to see it both day and night to appreciate it. But don't go to the restaurants in the squares - walk down some of the side streets and you will find the places that the Greeks go to, and they are cheaper, too. [One of Greek friends told us this little tip - and he was right).

Overall, it was a nice holiday. After ten years, a lot of Rhodes hadn't changed much and it is still full of friendly people and relaxing places to visit. Yes - I think we will visit again one day.....

The Barbie Apartments are very nice - they are clean, fairly spacious and comfortable. The managers are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The pool is a good size and the location is excellent - 3-4 minutes to the restaurant and bars and about 10 minutes to the beach. The food at the apartments is fine and well priced. The downside is that the pool area has limited sunbed room - meaning that wherever you lay you are likely to get splashed and that in high season it can be difficult to get a sunbed. The best positions are on the left or at the right near the exit (as you stand at the bar and look at the pool) - we never got up early enough for those though!.

The resort is OK and is bigger than it appears at first. There are about 30-40 restaurants, all fairly good. We had one bad meal in the 14 days we stayed - that was at the 'Platon'; service was terrible, the wrong orders brought and the food was mediocre. Restaurants that stood out were the italian trattoria - 'La Cucina' and the fish restarant 'La Bonita' - although this was quite pricey.

The beach is very pebbly, and as advised by a previous review we bought beach shoes to ear in the sea which were really useful. However, the sea is warm and usually calm, although on windy days the waves are huge. there is quite a strong undertow though so watch out.

Taxis were cheap. To Rhodes Town cost 8E - and it's worth going to see. The water park costs 15E - cheaper than the cost of the excursion offered by Direct Holidays. The waterpark cost 20E per adult and 15E per child and was a good day out - there's plenty for all ages.

overall we had a great timne and can strongly recommend the Barbie Apartments for a holiday.

just returned , had a great time, as everyone has said lovely apts, great hosts, allthough they were obviously tired as the end of the season is near, nothing was too much trouble. Vangellis even arranged good, cheap car hire, we used this to visit other beaches as the beach in trianda is not only pebbley, the sea is also quite rough for small children. Good selection of resturaunts, Nefeli, at the junction from apts one favourite.Missed the bbq, not enough people put their names down, not to worry though have already booked to return next year!!
