This was our first time to Samos, and we could not have picked a better resort or accommodation.
We have been to Greece many times before and are quite used to Greek accommodation. We were therefore plesantly surprised to find that the hotel was far better than we expected, having read some of the previous reviews!
The family that own and run it were very fiendly and welcoming...especially Vasillis who runs the pool bar and has a wicked sense of humour.
The rooms were kept exceptionally clean, breakfast differed every day and was quite adequate...nothing wrong with the orange squash.

The pool area and bar were brilliant...great for that last drink or lunch....it was also children friendly!
As for the resort it was all that we look for......long beach that doesn't get crowded...clear blue sea and a laid back atmosphere that reminded us of Greece of 10 years ago.
Plenty of tavernas...if you want good Greek food you will not beat The Blue Bucket, Rina's, Leonida's or Elvoinos and Nick the Greek's Fish Taverna.
If you want fast food Greek style try Chesters or Angelos.
But for a great end to the evening have a drink at Johnny's bar...opposite Cosmos Bar...and get to know Costas, who is a truly great character.

The brochure does not do these studios justice! There are 15 studios all immaculate, the linen was changed every 3 days as were the towels, there is only one cleaner who is fantastic and very friendly(nothing was too much trouble). The studios are run by Manola and his parents(lovely people)the small poolside snack bar is great, the food is fresh and cheap. The pool area is gorgeous and Manola's father never stops cleaning and gardening, there are plenty of sunbeds and it was never busy. The setting for the studios must be one of the best in Samos and the views are stunning, very relaxing and peaceful.

The walk into town takes about 20 mins all down hil, well worth the 3.50 euro taxi ride back home. Pythagoria is great lots of bars, tavernas etc It is very clean anf the people are very friendly.
We hired a car to see the sites and I can well recommend this.
Nearly forgot to mention Rivo(named after Rivaldo)the puppy that lived at the studios who enjoyed attacking peoples's ankles we had to stop ourseleves from putting him inside our case to bring home he was fantastic and very friendly.

If you are thinking of visiting Samos you must definately stay at the Electra!

What a lovely hotel, run by a lovely family. Very good, clean accomodation with excellent views of the harbour and bay. The manager gleoudis speaks very good english, and is very helpful. It could be a bit of a steep climb up the road from the harbour for some less able people but its a good way to exercise after a few glasses of mythos or a day on the beach.

The beach around the harbour is a bit rocky but thre are plenty of sunbeds. We preferred the ten minutes walk out of the village, past the school and fire station and then left at the pegasus taverna. This is a lovely sand/shingle beach with a good sandy walk out to the sea. It was so quiet here ( apart from the odd plane ) with nobody sat on top of you. The pegasus taverna was a good place to have lunch or a mythos on the way back. The harbour has plenty of lovely friendly tavernas and bars but our favourite was the PALADION at the top of the main street on the left as you walked away from the harbour.Very welcoming and lovely greek food. Hope to go back soon.

the samos sun hotel is up a fairly steep hill so not suitable for anyone with walking problems. that said the hotel is very good and the staff very helpful especially barbara and judith on reception nothing too much trouble for them.the hotel is about a half hour walk into pythagorion but you can get a cab for 3 euros so well worth it. pythagorion is pretty good but if you go to ireon which is about a mile the other way from the airport it is much smaller and nicer. also you can get the bus or drive to kokkari which is very pretty and a greta beach for windsurfing. the food in all resorts was ok and if you go to kokkari there is a bar opposite the kokkari beach hotel which does the best omelette ever number 36 on the menu.

if you want lots of nightlife then samos isnt the place for you but for a relaxing holiday just the job.

Just returned from a wonderful week in Samos! Kambos is a quiet resort offering plenty of tavernas. The beach is a long pebble and sand stretch with no watersports! which suited our needs perfectly. The people in kambos and generally around the island show all the main characteristics of what we have become used to on many trips to this wonderful country.friendly, warm hearted and a genuine need to make visitors feel at home. Our stay at the evangelistria was perfect! the studio was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean.Rania is the perfect hostess and takes time to make her guests feel like part of her family.

We would highly recommend any one who is seeking a quiet and relaxing holiday in beautifil surroundings to look no further than the evangelistria in Kambos!

The Sunrise Hotel is a wonderful place, Poppi and her family make you feel very welcome from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave! Ireon is a peaceful resort but with enough Tavernas and bars to make a different choice each night. We would highly recommend car or scooter hire as Samos is an easy Island to travel around. Book flights and hotel independently, just type in Sunrise Hotel on Google for a memorable holiday!

Had a wonderful Holiday at Hotel Sofia, Kambos, Samos. We will be going back next year the first time we have ever gone back to the same place.

Samos/Kambos
Samos is the best of the Greek islands I've been to, its relatively quiet but has plenty to do for those wanting a relaxed time. Lots of lovely scenery, greek villages, museums and historical sites ect. Kambos is one of the quieter resorts on the island but has plenty of good bars and restaurants and a good beach. Not much else but ideal for a chill out Holiday. The local people all seemed so friendly and helpful and this seems to have affected the tourists as they seemed unusually friendly as well. Kids and teenagers looking for thrills, spills and exitement should look elswhere. Votsaliaka is the neighbouring resort but they are virtually one as there is only 100 yards between them. A little more lively than Kambos but still a chill out resort.

Weather

Hot every day often with a bit of a cooling breeze which was usually quite pleasant. At times the winds does get up quite a bit and this can be unpleasant on the beach.

Restaurants.

Read all the reviews before I went but realy everyone should try for themseleves and make there own mind up.
We didn't like Leonidis or the Blue Bucket.
Chesters was very friendly and the food was good. Agrokiali (Nick and Olga) was good as was the Votsalikia Cafe which has excellent views accross the beach.
The best food we had was in Angelos Taverna. Try Christo Petro Taverna on the right as you leave Kambos just before Ormos. Brilliant panoramic view.
Try the Aegean Beach cafe for day time drinks/snacks Maria is a lovely lady.

Beach

The Beach nearest the hotel Sophia was good being mainly sand with some large rounded stones no problem to walk on. Some shingle at the waters edge. The rest of the beach in either direction seemed the same but with varying amounts of stones or shingle.

Hotel Sophia.

Is a 3 star Greek BandB Hotel. It is very clean, reasonable facilities, reasonably comfortable. It has lovely views to the mountains, you can see the sea (hundred yards away), a lovely pool and a great pool bar (good company and laughs day and night). Breakfast is typically greek very basic and sometimes a little odd (to english taste).
Excellent value Hotel with all you need.
If you want luxury with a full english go 5 star and pay 5 star prices.
Never mind what some people say about the dog Marios he's lovely. Ok he Barks a bit when you walk into the hotel. It lasts 5 seconds, is never threatening and he doesn't even bother after a couple of days.
The hotel staff are lovely friendly people mainly Stavros (the owner)Sofia (his wife ) and Vasailly (the son).

Car Hire
I got quotes from several and the cheapest I found was ";Star";. 170 Euros for 1 week, a good car with air con and full insurance.

I recommend this Hotel and this island to anyone who wants a chill out, inexpensive Holiday with beach, pool, good food, good drink and good company.

Just returned from a week staying at this little gem of a hotel which is extremely well kept and spotlessly clean everywhere.
The hotel has stunning views overlooking the sea and Kokkari village.
Pool is a nice size, again very clean. Ample sunbeds and despite the hotel having lots of German guests, we were pleasantly surprised that nobody reserved sunbeds during our stay, which made it so much more relaxing to know that you didn't have to get up at 5am just to try and get a sunbed. (Maybe we were just lucky!)
Staff here are all fantastic and so friendly, treating you like a member of their own family. In fact the whole island has some of the friendliest people we have ever met.
Hotel Food was good with plenty of choice for breakfast and set menu in the evening with a choice of main dish and help your self salad bar.
Bar prices are very reasonable.

Rooms are a good size with everything you needed and a free safety box. We had a sea view room which I think is worth it but there isn't a badly postitioned room if you didn't book sea view.
Kokkari is a 15 min walk away downhill. Hotel has shuttle bus until 5pm which goes on the hour dropping you at 2 beaches first before going into town. It's a nice walk up or down but taxis are available at 3 euros if not feeling energetic.
Kokkari is a beautiful picturesque village, with plenty of tavernas to choose from all based mainly around the harbour seafront. Not a Mc D's or English pub in sight,It's all still, very Greek and local unspoilt.

The Hotel gets many repeat guests and I can see why.You won't be disapointed.
Looking forward to going back.

We stayed at the Tsamadou hotel (pronounced samadoo)in Kokkari for our honeymoon and have to say having been travelling to the smaller greek islands for a number of years we could not have chosen a better hotel or resort. Kokkari is a beautiful resort and full of charactor and charm with a great harbour lined by taverna`s.

The beach is mainly of pebbles but we prefered it to a sandy beach and the water is crystal clear. The hotel only opened in may 2006 after a winter of refurbishment it is situated right on the beach and only a few mins walk to the town centre and harbour, the hotel is furnished to a high standard and is spotlessly clean.

The english owners Ian and Tina made us feel like part of the family from the moment we got there nothing was to much trouble and made our honeymoon very special. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis for a very good rate. I must give a mention to Ian`s cooking who is a trained chef and the food is top notch especially the thai dishes and at very good prices. We ate in the hotel for 4 nights and most dinner times out of the 7 nights we stayed there.

We enjoyed it so much that we have booked to return in 7 weeks time with 4 of our family.

We have just got back from our weeks stay at the Doryssa Bay hotel, Samos. First of all I wouldn't take too much notice about reports of the landing, I am absolutely terrified of flying so was absolutely dreading it, turns out that it was no difference to a landing anywhere else that I have experienced!!

On arrival at the hotel which is literally 3 mins from the airport, it struck me straight away how it got its 4 star status, it wouldn't be any more than 3 stars any where else in the world! It was clean most importantly but had seen better days, the décor throughout was a bit shabby, although the rooms did have a flat screen TV which was good, but only 1 channel, bbc world news was in English, so perhaps not so good!

I read before I came that this wasn't a popular destination for English people, so I was expecting it to be quite European, however, we weren't expecting to be the only English in our hotel, it made us quite uncomfortable to be honest as we got stared at everywhere we went, and it was just the same when we ventured into Pythagorean town centre, you got used to it in the end, but its just something to bear in mind.

Ive got to say the hotel staff were the most miserable ive ever come across in Greece, I have been to many islands in the past and one of the main attractions is how friendly and hospitable they are to you, my god, not in this hotel they were the most miserable staff ever, the waiters could barely muster up a 'hello' to you, and just had a permanent frown on their faces, im guessing they don't like their work too much!!

The food in the hotel was okay, the breakfasts were the best out of the two meals, there was plenty to choose from and they had different selections on offer, although the only 'British thing' you could get was a boiled egg and baked beans so don't be expecting normal bacon or sausages. I loved the cereals though, and the pastries were gorgeous!! The evening meal was a different story and mainly because of the disgusting fly's everywhere, free to land on all of the salad foods and desserts, it was totally awful!! There didn't seem to be anything in place to stop this problem of fly's and I could only eat from the hot section which the fly's didn't seem to like, or id have to dig out to the bottom of the bowls of salad to get the food that hadn't been landed on, it wasn't pleasant at all, and totally put me off but it was either get used to it or not eat.

Another thing to look out for was the rip off charges of drinks at the hotel, both in the restaurant and onsite shop. They charged 2.80 euros for a small glass of 250ml coke/sprite, it was only 3 euros for a big glass of beer. The cans of pop in the shop were 1 euro, where as they were 45 cents in the normal little shops in the town centre. The water, crisps and everything else were also twice as expensive. But because when it is hot you cant be bothered walking into the town for a can of pop you end up paying the extortionate prices, id say 90% of our spending money was spent on drinks alone.

We ate out two nights in the town centre (which is only a 10 min walk from the hotel not 20mins as previously said, unless you walk really really slowly that is) and the restaurant we went to both times was Symposium, the food and the atmosphere was excellent and was brilliant value for money. I was expecting some nightlife in the town centre after reading about the 'cosmopolitan bars' obviously ive a different idea of what is cosmopolitan to others as all I found it was run down cafes with wicker chairs lined up out front, there was nothing cosmopolitan about it, and for peak season it was practically deserted, but we found that this was actually the resorts 'busiest time'. I knew it was going to be a laid back place, and it really was, just don't go there thinking there will be any kind of nightlife or atmosphere because there really isn't even the bare minimum, we weren't expecting Ibiza or anything, which is a good job!!! The whole place was geared up towards the elderly really, I wouldn't even say it was good for families, there was no kids club on, and any teenagers that were there with their families didn't look very happy at all and I cant blame them bless them!!!

All in all, it was a peaceful relaxing and very boring holiday, I would never go back there, but I don't like going to the same place twice anyway. It wasn't the worst hol ive had, nothing can beat Lanzagrotty, but the hotel itself was ok, it was clean that's the main thing, but very average overall, even for Greece.
