"Villa Maria review"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Very Good

Open quote

Villa Maria was clean and in a great position in the town. The bar next door is noisy as stated in the brochure - so take earplugs - we did and it was fine. The pool is well maintained and plenty of sunbeds - very quiet. We had a 2nd floor room with lovely views to front and rear. Once we got used to the idea of a wet room instead of a traditional shower we liked it a lot.

The beach is clean and quiet as is the town. So many places to eat you are spolied for choice but we really liked Blue Bucket,Sail Away, Nick the Greek and Muses. Votsalakia Tavern is worth a visit for the view alone. We got a jeep from Stephanos at Hermes car Hire and he was excellent - by far the best firm in the town - check out the insurances- he is the only one who didn't get us to take out more than we needed and his vehicles are in superb condition. It is well worth getting out and about as the island is beautiful - so many lovely little villages. We can't wait to go back again - most people we met were on their 2nd visit or more!!

The best holiday we have had for years but don't go looking for nightlife - perfect for rest and Relaxation which is exactly what we anted this year!

We have just come back from kambos and we had a fantastic time, we stayed in villa maria which was excellent, very clean and spacious with a lovely pool and gardens. The owners don't speak much english but are friendly and the rep is there nearly every day if you have a problem. The only faults with the accomodation we found are lack of safety deposit facilities and the flow of water through the showers is not very consistant,(Also, there is an infernal cockrel in the garden, good if your an early riser)

We hired a motorbike so we managed to get all around the island and we both agree that kambos is the nicest resort, not much there for families but great for couples, there are many tavernas and a few bars, the bar by the appartments is lovely and friendly, the music stopped every night dead on 1am and was not very loud, but we prefered the Kalivi beach cafe, it is so laid back and chilled with a facinating fire show and casual atmosphere.
Chesters was lovely for breakfast and the monday greek buffet was well worth it but I wasn't impressed with the food in general. The best taverna is called taverna Muses, it behind the main road and is signposted. The food is amazing, so beautiful especially the Stifado!

Don't go to the yellow taverna oposite the phones and two doors up from villa maria (awful)
The main beach is nice but Psili Ammos just up the road is far nicer, best to get a taxi if you don't have transport, also Ormos is a stunning little villiage not far away.
Good Places to go are: Potami waterfalls(watch out for reptiles in the water, honestly I nearly died when I realised what was swimming next to me), Pithagorio (lovely), Samos and Vathi (nice town) and Turkey/Ephesis (V expensive but amazing)
We didn't like Kokari and Karlovasi much.
The island itself is beautiful.Hot, unspoilt and charming in places on the otherhand where we were staying was VERY windy.

The manos rep Michelle was brilliant, the best rep I've encountered on a holiday.
Excellent Holiday
