Stayed at Villa Anna in July. Apartments were clean and bright with small but adequate balconies on first floor. Aircraft noise was minimal and no night flights. The pool area was really nice, never packed and with a relaxing feel. The pool bar was only open from 11am - 6pm but was reasonably priced for drinks and limited food options. We found George the barman very friendly as were the rest of the family. The apartments are situated just off a main road and the walk to Pythagoria takes around 20 minutes along that road. We found Pythagoria a great place to spend an evening, many restaurants and bars lining the harbour. The food was generally good and well priced. The italian Casa Roma was excellent as was the Elia which always had a nightly special. The taxi back was a reasonable 3 euros. All in all, a good choice for a relaxing holiday on a pretty island, nearby Potaki beach is about a ten minute walk and is long and pebbly. The sea was clean and calm, great for swimming. Would return to Villa Anna but would probably like to see diferent parts of the island. I agree with earlier comments about the air con, now 7 euros a night.

The quayside bars/restaurants are too expensive, though this is to be expected due to their location. Gregory does the best coffee with a unique sense of humour.
Those whose tastes transcend popular and disco music, will miss out unless they seek out the Efzin cafebar, beyond the harbour. The upstairs bar is run by Manolis who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of, and love for, jazz and blues. The place is cool beyond words!

The studios have been equipped with safe deposits for years. What, then, is the justification of a 20% increase in the charge from 10 to 12 euro per week?
Also, the air conditioning is antiquated, and controlled centrally. Therefore it essentially acts only as a fan, disturbing the air because the central control is set far too hot. It follows that the management are charging top dollar for a poor service.

we have been to greece for the last 14 years, but this is the first time to samos pythagoria.the appartments were spotless and very spacious, bedlinen is changed twice a week.there is a ceiling fan in the bedroom, which is a god send.there is a toaster and electric kettle, table and chairs, and settee bed,in the large kitchen.its a 10minute walk to the harbour beach.we tried a differant taverna every night for our meals, which were all good.must point out we did not have any good ommeletts, and we tried quiet a few.
days out the island tour is not to be missed,as you see most of the island.also the boat trip with bbq is great, the captain really entertains you.and the boat trip to psili amos for a full day is brill,it as a sandy beach, 3tavernas, toilets. this trip cost 10 euros plus 5 euros if you want a sunbed of the captain.
all in all we had a good 2weeks holiday.

Studios at hotel Evelyn are very clean but fairly small and basic.(no corksrew, knife to cut bread etc) However, hot water with good pressure all of the time and 2 towels each not the norm for Greece. Pool area quite nice but they do need to get more new sunbeds as some are very tatty. The airport behind is not a problem but the road noise can be annoying with lots of squealing brakes and hooting at the traffic lights. George at the pool bar is always smiling and Maria on reception in the afternoon is agreat mine of information. Hotel owners a bit strange, not the usual Greek friendliness.
We ate at many of the places recommended on this site but really liked Appolonia the best as it was so comfortable. We walked up to the top of the hill in front and also to Ireon and back but on the whole it was too hot for walking. The bus to Samos town stops right outside the studios and is a very good ride for three euros return per person.

I am a well-seasoned Greek Traveller having visited a variety of the islands and therefore accustomed to the basics associated with such self-catering facilities, however the Anthis failed to meet even this level of basic acceptance.
The brochure describes the rooms as being ";split level"; and situated on a ";main road";, what the brochure failed to say is that not all rooms are split level and that the main road should include the word ";busy"; and that if you hire a car that no suitable parking facilities are available other than parking on the busy main road.
This aside what was noticeably our first impression was the darkness and gloom of room 11 where it was necessary to have electric lights on during the day! - due to the porch style overhang and overgrown fruit trees that invaded our balcony area.
I made immediate representation to Kosta who said he would see what could be done in terms of changing rooms the next day, we delayed unpacking everything on this premise but nothing came of this, probably as we learnt after others had made similar demands and must have shouted louder!.
So we unpacked in our electric lighting and resigned ourselves to making best use of what we had.
The second point was the general cleanliness; whilst we British put up with most things what we do like is a reasonable standard of hygiene and cleanliness and the Anthis failed miserably in this. The bathroom toilet was disgusting the porcelain being brown and stinking of urine as well as having a ";present"; floating from the previous occupier in the filthy water, thankfully a supermarket was close by where we purchased various cleaning materials. The floor under the beds had a ½ inch dust, the sink was dirty, the fridge was marked with spillages inside and overall the room and balcony was not inviting in any way. The general waste bin comprised of a typical office waste paper basket with no lid and bins were emptied only every 2 / 3 days, including the bathroom bin, there were literally hundreds of flies due to open bins and rotting Apricots that were dropping off the offending fruit trees, so to minimise this I used to parcel up the rubbish daily and take it to the nearest road side bin.
The kitchen equipment was old with bent forks, plastic dishes and plates and only one knife, we did advise them of this but there was still only 1 knife when we left, although the toilet etc was by far cleaner than when we arrived.
The frustating part is I booked back in July 2006 to stay at Angela Studios, only to be changed like many others 5 weeks before departure!
The island and people itself are lovely and not too Commercialised with more of a traditional Greek feel and if eating down in Pythagorion make sure you stop off at ELIA restaurant - superb!, Beaches, Psili Ammos is traditional sand and very shallow waters, but if you want it quiet but stony try Balos beach, all details can be found on Greeka.com.
Would we go back to Samos, yes, would we choose Anthis, the answer has to be no!

villa anna fab place fab family that own it excellent rooms and facillities pool bar great for relaxing and long sunny afternoon get togethers with other guests and yannis, lilian and there parents who were very friendly and fun to be with, the family and staff are very helpful and the food at the snack bar is excellent if we wanted yannis would always open the bar at night too. near the airport but no problem as no early or late flights and very good fun to watch while lazing round the pool. (oh and yes there are mozzies but not just at villa anna, as some may have appeared to think, mozzies are very common in all of greece ! ) Pythorgoria has fantastic restaurants and bars especially four seasons for food and remezzos for drinks,
we have been to samos and villa anna 6 times and will keep returning over and over again as it is our 2nd home

Electra Studios are very nice. They are cleaned every other day and linen changed every 3 days. The complex of around 15 rooms is run by Manoli and his mum and dad (with help from Rivo the dog!). Manoli runs the pool bar - he is very helpful and his food is good and reasonable for a mid-day snack. The pool area is good and you get a nice breeze as its situated quite high up. Manoli will order you a taxi for the hike down to the town. We would recommend you get a taxi as the walk on the main road is quite scary. It costs ?5 into the town if Manoli orders the taxi but ?3.50 to come back if you get one yourself from the taxi rank in town. It was very very hot when we were there so we never even attempted the walk back! The air-con in the rooms is a must - it cost us ?35 for the week. The only drawback with the studios is that there is no shop around them which means you have to be very organised and get your shopping in the town.
We found most of the people very friendly. British people were in the minority with alot of Dutch and Germans around.
Our favourite restaurants were in the town but not the ones around the harbour. We found these to be a little more expensive and the quality wasn't as good. Our favorites were on the second street back - Aphrodite and Esperedes (around the corner from the Aphrodite).
We visited 2 beaches. The beach belonging to the Proteas Hotel was nice and quiet but the snack bar was very limited and quite pricey. The next beach along, I think it was called Valtos, was much bigger but I thought it was crowded and the snack bar was very expensive. It was also incredibly hot on both these beaches. Beware in the sea as well because its very rocky and they can be very slippy.
The airport is very good for size of the island. It was very well organised and the duty free had everything you could want.
All in all, we would definately go back to Samos and the Electra.

What a lovely hotel, run by a lovely family. Very good, clean accomodation with excellent views of the harbour and bay. The manager gleoudis speaks very good english, and is very helpful. It could be a bit of a steep climb up the road from the harbour for some less able people but its a good way to exercise after a few glasses of mythos or a day on the beach.
The beach around the harbour is a bit rocky but thre are plenty of sunbeds. We preferred the ten minutes walk out of the village, past the school and fire station and then left at the pegasus taverna. This is a lovely sand/shingle beach with a good sandy walk out to the sea. It was so quiet here ( apart from the odd plane ) with nobody sat on top of you. The pegasus taverna was a good place to have lunch or a mythos on the way back. The harbour has plenty of lovely friendly tavernas and bars but our favourite was the PALADION at the top of the main street on the left as you walked away from the harbour.Very welcoming and lovely greek food. Hope to go back soon.

the samos sun hotel is up a fairly steep hill so not suitable for anyone with walking problems. that said the hotel is very good and the staff very helpful especially barbara and judith on reception nothing too much trouble for them.the hotel is about a half hour walk into pythagorion but you can get a cab for 3 euros so well worth it. pythagorion is pretty good but if you go to ireon which is about a mile the other way from the airport it is much smaller and nicer. also you can get the bus or drive to kokkari which is very pretty and a greta beach for windsurfing. the food in all resorts was ok and if you go to kokkari there is a bar opposite the kokkari beach hotel which does the best omelette ever number 36 on the menu.
if you want lots of nightlife then samos isnt the place for you but for a relaxing holiday just the job.
