"Pythagoria"
Overall Resort Rating:
Pythgoria is a small fishing village on the south coast of Samos. The quayside is chock full of bars and retaurants. We did not have a bad meal in the whole two weeks we were there. In pays to go back from the quayside to find some of the out of the way eating places. The quayside itself is a paradise for watching the day go by; yachts coming and going, people strolling by and not a drunken yobbo in sight. The local beaches are mainly pebbly for the first 10 yards or so. It is worth catching the boat that leaves the harbour at 10am heading for the wonderful sandy beach of Psilli Amos. For 15 Euros you get a return journey, a sun bed on the beach and drinks and fruit going and returning. There are many other boat trips to be had.

"samos"
Overall Resort Rating:
We visited the Temple of Hera in Ireon May 2010 and found the quality and quantity of archaeology truly spectacular. The well identified sites with illustrated maps were very easy to read and understandable. My only concern was the lack of handouts, leaflets or information for the casual visitor. I had already read up on the site and have a little knowledge about Greek architecture and mythology but my wife struggled to comprehend the site. It would also be nice if a refreshment booth or shop was available to purchase cold drinks or merchandise publicising the site. We visited about 3pm and the weather was in the high 30's.

"Samos Island"
Overall Resort Rating:
Samos means tall and high, it definitely lives up to this.
The island has alot to offer but a car is a necessity if you wish to really see it. There are local buses available but often they are few and far between. Some of the villages will get at most 3 buses a day and some less or none at all.
If you are into visiting archaeological sites, the island has a few, including the Temple of Hera and theEfpalinion Tunnel.
If you are out and about keep an eye open for the local boat yards. There are 3 traditional boat builders in operation on the island, quite amazing to see.
If ypou go no where else go into Samos Town and also visit Kokkari on the north coast if you are into water sports.

"Perfect Pythagorio"
Overall Resort Rating:
I guess it depends on on your personal taste...for me it is perfect. I was not there later than about 20:00 after having an early evening meal so I can not comment on nightlife...plenty to see in a very relaxed atmosphere. My idea of heaven.

"Pythagorian"
Overall Resort Rating:
Nice resort, nice to eat at the harbour and people watch all evening over a few drinks. Nice beach, with cooling breeze, but be warned, very, very deceptive and you can easily get badly burned. Taxis realtively cheap. Went to the North of the island to Kookari one night for a meal, lovely harbour town, 17 Euros return by taxi from Pythagorian and driver refused to take payment until he'd picked us up and returned us straight back to the Anthis Apartments. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for these people!

"Resort"
Overall Resort Rating:
Pythagorion is an ideal centre with good communications with the rest of the island, though hired transport is a huge benefit.
The quayside bars/restaurants are too expensive, though this is to be expected due to their location. Gregory does the best coffee with a unique sense of humour.
Those whose tastes transcend popular and disco music, will miss out unless they seek out the Efzin cafebar, beyond the harbour. The upstairs bar is run by Manolis who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of, and love for, jazz and blues. The place is cool beyond words!
