"Hotel Proteas Bay review"

Open quote

Excellent hotel, concur with much of what has already been said below. Highly relaxing place.

The site slopes down to the sea facing South East and is laid out as follows: shingle/pebble beach with a smidgen of sand and a small bar 'shack'; then the pool, pool bar and taverna; then the rooms; then the main hotel, restaurant, reception, shop; then hotel entrance and access road to main highway. The slope is considerable, but not too inconvenient if you are reasonably able-bodied. Access for pushchairs/wheelchairs across the site is good.

'Bungalows' actually consist of one, usually two and sometimes three storey buildings. Rooms are large and spacious, with a good-sized balcony and a large bathroom. Water supply was reliable - hot water was always hot. Rooms are cleaned and replenished daily, including with fresh flowers. The chambermaids have a neat angle in folding the bed linen, arranging your nightwear and, in the case of the kids, arranging the soft toys!

The pool is large with half of it being quite shallow which is good for youngsters and those of us who are not strong swimmers. Sun loungers are good quality.

The hotel shop stocks a limited range of items - drinks, biscuits, crisps, daily British newspapers (Mail and Express mainly) on the day of publication, sun-creams and other holiday items.

The hotel courtesy bus runs five times a day - when we were there they ran at 9.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m., 7.00 p.m., 7.45 p.m. and 8.50 p.m. Taxis into Pythagorion (pronounced 'Pith-a-gorio') can be ordered through reception - they cost three euros and the journey time is just five minutes.

Few biting or stinging insects to worry about, just several armies of large ants. Spot the lizard just below the pool area, the small and presumably harmless green snake just above the beach and the owl that keeps watch at night.

The full moon rises from above Asia Minor - brilliant.

Food quality and service were excellent. Easy to get your five-a-day.

Pythagorion harbour is the place to hang out and be seen.

Relax and enjoy.
