"Ouranos Traditional Houses review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
On arrival in Immerovigli ( a mere 15 mins transfer from the airport) we were met and greeted by Chris who carried our cases to the houses for us (here is a clue, the name is ";Ouranos Traditional Houses"; ie they are built into the side of the Caldera). We were warmly greeted by the manager Dora and told everything we needed to know about the facilities and so on.
We had a small private balcony with a table and chairs where we could sit out and eat lunch / have a glass of wine and this had a spectacular view. There was also a sunning area adjacent to the covered jacuzzi with mats provided or a large terrace for all the guests to enjoy just one level down, this had sun loungers and tables and chairs.
On the first day our toilet sprung a leak and it was fixed with minimum hassle, a simple phonecall to reception had Chris at our door to fix it immediately.Breakfasts were served from the main coffee area although you could have them on your balcony and we were surprised to find that the majority of pastrys and cakes were made by Dora!
The rooms are cave like - this was the attraction for us - although we had plenty of space, there was a slightly damp smell to the room but being on the side of a cliff in a very humid environment we accepted it as one of those things - you cant have everything! We did mention this to Dora and she arranged for our sheets etc to be changed more often to try and limit this. Our room was cleaned to perfection every day and all of the staff were friendly and helpful.
In my opinion this area is the best to stay in Santorini, you are in close proximity to most things and Fira is a 20 min walk away on a picturesque walk.If you are after a beach holiday go to Kamari or Perissa (we did day trips to both on the bus for 1.10 euros) but if you want a picturesque postcard holiday go to the Caldera.
Likewise if you are after a hotel in the traditional sense, dont book traditional houses! We wanted a quiet romantic holiday away from the touristy bustle and tourist traps, we got a it in bundles and with a fantastic view!
