Just returned from a wonderful week in Santorini. If you are thinking about visiting for your holiday - just do it! The most beautiful place I have been without a doubt.

We stayed in Perivolos at the Robertos Apartments, had read some of the reviews here and was a little worried but to be honest it just helped to have the advice. Like when the daughter told me she would give me my change 'later' and then seemed to forget. Because of the advice here I realised it wasn't because she was forgetful so stuck to my guns and got my change!

Our apartment was clean and bins emptied daily (except Sunday) and was more than adequate for us. No problems with water - always warm but the flush could be a little dodgy sometimes.

We loved our resort - nice and quiet and we preferred it to Perissa, although if you wanted something a little livelier maybe Perissa is the place for you. Best places to eat were The Best (our favourite)and Meteora with 'Princess Irene' who was lovely but could make you jump out of your skin when she suddenly would blow her whistle mid mouthful!

Definitely would recommend a trip to Thira, if not for the ice cream at Cafe Classico overlooking the volcano - wonderful! We also went on the sunset cruise on our last night which was highly recommended - you must do this!

All in all a wonderful holiday and we cannot wait to go back!

We stayed in September 2005.
Santorini's beautiful, Perivolos during the day is nice, especially a little beach bar there, reminded me of something from Home and Away, (I think its called Margaritas). Night time it goes dead, a half hour walk into Perissa makes up for it though. There are many more places to stay halfway between (Hotel Smaragdi for one) We tried Perissa by day, but its really quiet, so its either/or.

Robertos Studios - Not Recommended
why?
OK, I know Greece is basic, and we went knowing that, however, have you seen the ad for Flash wipes? thank god we took a pack. Every time the cleaner had been in we had to gut the place again from top to bottom. (1 women, 1 old dirty mop and one hell of a job to do). We had read on here about towels - the cleaner took our own off us after 3 days so we were stuck - ended up buying beach towels to cope. We had hair gel and perfume used in large quantities (the things you have to lock in a safe), and as for the girl at the bar, well I'll quote my wife, ";she's one of those nasty, nasty girls from school";. Even the rep didn't like being there.

One other thing, when we got there the room wasn't locked, but at 5AM the next morning some drunk Greek man was trying all the doors, which suggested to us that they don't normally lock the empty ones and the locals know about this and use the place as a doss house.

Go to Santorini, you'll love it, just don't stay at Robertos!

Better accommodation - there is a campsite at Perissa - its cleaner!

Accomodation was typically greek and basic, linen was changed three times a week but the towels had seen better days so take your own or be prepared to drip dry !!

The pool area was lovely but much smaller that it appeared in the brochure. The water in the room was hot and we had an excellent sea view. The owners are not exactly welcoming and they all try to get you to buy anything that is avaiable, and each time you buy something the price either changes or they do not have any change to return to you so they owe YOU ! or as they did us you get a bottle of water instead of your change. The restuaurants in perivolos and perissa are excellent and great value for money you must try Meteora, Lava(has an open kitchen and he shows you all the food before you decide)Acropolis and an excellent bar next to Meteora called Sea View and ask for MR Onasis!!Fira and Oia are breathtaking and a must see whilst you are there, the sunsets are trully the best!
Expect early mornings due to barking dogs (packs of them!)donkeys eeeoooring!cockrels crowing! oh ! and the local farmers and their large ,loud rifels!!!

Had brill holiday and would definately go again.

santorini is one of the most beautiful greek islands that we have been to. Perivolos is much quieter than kamari with lots of eating places to choose from.don't be afraid to use the local buses to get around, they are very cheap and we found them quite reliable. The Robertos villas was ok. I can't say I would want to stay there again. The room was much bigger than the usual studio. We never went short of hot water and when there was a problem with the shower it was dealt with on the same day.

The cleaner came every day and our sheets and towels were changed reularly, but the towels were often a bit smelly, as if they hadn't been dried properly, so I suggest that you take your own, to be on the safe side. Toilet rolls are not provided, I took my own. The pool was lovely but I agree with other contributors to this website that the girl behind the bar is a nightmare. She overcharges for everything. One lady bought a packet of cigarettes and was overcharged by one and a half euros. She also tries very hard to get you to send her cd's and dvd's, I was given a long list.By the end of the first week, no-one was using the pool bar at night which was a real shame.

However, if you just want somewhere peaceful to put your head down at night with a nice pool, then you'll be ok here.

Myself and my family stayed in the Robertos studios this year and was very pleased with the resort, freindly bar staff and quality food along all beach front taverns.
The walk from the robertos studio's is not that bad we had small children and they managed it every night and it only took us around 10 minutes either way.
I highly recomend the Best, the best provides quality food at the right price and freindly service look out for Nicko's he's the waiter that makes your holiday.

I would also highly recomend the sea side lounge turn right at the beach front and about 5 - 10 munites stroll to the end of the beach the food is highly reccomendable and the restaraunt is very stylish.
I had read up on the rebertos studios before i went over and found that the cleaning standards and service was not that bad, basic and not much storage space but it soon becomes your home.
The pool was fantastic cleaned daily and spacious, the complex was very nice and some rooms were better than others.
However i would highly recomend NOT to eat at the pool bar, the daughter is not that pushy but has a very relaxed and lazy approach in delivering a qaulity service.

We noted that the fresh orange juices were different everytime and the bits and bobs sold in the baskets on the bar counter were a variety of items left from the rooms when the holiday makers departed.
We also witnessed the cleaners on the tuesday of emptying and cleaning the now vacant rooms pass over to the daughter bags of items that had been left by the holiday makers with all intentions to resale at the pool bar but most disturbing of all some items that we had left in the bin were also passed over to be resold ie half eaten loaf of bread etc so PLEASE, PLEASE do not eat from the pool bar make sure that you empty your room before you depart to reduce the risk of others falling ill on holiday.
If you do buy from the pool bar i would only recomend sealed items such as bottles of pop, beer and water.
But please do not let this small issue spoil your holiday you will have a fantastic time its just a shame that the service at the pool bar is very poor and remember that they are loosing out not you. It sates at the pool not to bring in your own food but she does not notice.

santorini is a fantastic and very romantic island make sure you see everything that you can.

Hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we did.

Deffinatly will go back one day, still have lots to see.

It was typically Greek and rustic.Bins were emptied daily and the room were clean.Sure they try to blag you for air con and a safe, but hey,it's not compulsory!Getting past the accomadation ,it is in a top spot,Perivolos is just far enough out of the noise and the masses that can't be bothered to walk more than 100 yards and all the better for it.The beach is near enough (not a 15 min walk unless you're using a zimmer frame)and quiet enough to pick your own spot. All chairs give you on beach service and there are plenty of tavernas for eats (highly recommend Meteora, particularly on a Mon night).

The Euromarket has most daily needs and it's an easy walf to Perissa if in need of a little more life. The bus service is excellent and runs till midnight back to Perivolos. The nice thing about the evening restaurants in Perivolos (esp Charlina's at the Periv end) is they are quieter so almost all laden you with free wine for dining with them. 3 carafes 1 night and a total bill of 21euros can't fault that.Thira is Ok but just a little too commercial........stick to the coast, popular with all the local youth usually from about 2.30pm until 6.30 then everyone disappears.

I'd go again!

On arriving in Santorini at 2 in the morning we were told that the apartments in Kamari that we had booked 16 months before were unavailable, and we would be moving to Perivolus instead. We did not want to go but after having a 2 and a half hour delay on the plane and a screaming 3 year old with us we had no choice but to go to the Roberto studios.

The other reviews of this apartment are correct luckily for us we insisted on being moved to Kamari and we only had to stay 2 nights there. All the owners are after is money the girl behind the snack bar is very friendly, but only because she wants you to copy and send her play station games.

These studios are very basic but ideal if you have booked a last minute holiday, considering they are apartments for 4 people all the utensils we had were 2 forks and a small saucepan. The resort its self is very quiet with only a few bars and tavernas okay if you are after a quiet holiday.

Perissa is the next resortalong but a long walk there and back.Luckily enough Kosmar moved us after 2 days to the Villa Ostria in Kamari, which was excellant the owners were really lovely and friendly.unfortunatly these are privately owned and are not in any brochure, if you are unhappy with Kosmar with any part of your holiday you must insist that they rectify it Jane the resort manager was very good.

Kamara is buzzing with loads of lovely restaurants and shops an ideal holiday place to go too if you have children. The sea shelves deeply, so you better off findind a nice pool somewere.Out and about we did the volcano trip which is unsuitable for small children, due to the steepness and the heat our daughter is 3 and wanted to be carried most of the way which was impossible. The villages and sunset trip was lovely but we missed the sunset due to the rep giving us the wrong time. The best thing to do is go into the capital Thira on the bus find a nice bar or restaurent over looking the volcano and just sit and watch the sun go down fantastic.

Santorini was a fantastic place and one of the best holidays i had ever been on, 1 tip if you visit Thira in the day go down to the old port by cable car and up by donkey its less scary, and just one of those things that you must do.

They say first impressions are lasting impressions; unfortunately this is not true of the Robertos Studios. We arrived just after lunch with two other friends and the place looked really nice, lovely pool and bar, and our room was spacious and had a great view.

However we soon found out that the staff running the place were totally incompetent and treated all guests as walking ";Euro dispensing machines";. The girl running the pool bar gradually increased the price of everything as you ordered it, and she was constantly trying to get you buy something at her over inflated prices, if it wasn't more drinks, food, TV or air conditioning, she was trying to sell you a map or a safety deposit box (NB. I never understand why we have to pay for the privilege of not being robbed!! - later in this report you will understand this statement more!!).

It was clear our room had not been cleaned properly since the previous occupants left, even the bed headboards were covered in dust and the toilet was filthy, there was no toilet paper, I always thought the first roll was provided! Some guests were arriving at 2 am in the morning imagine if you had not come prepared. I went down with an upset stomach within 2 days and on tipping bleach down the loo was amazed how white it then looked. As it was the cistern packed up after day 4 and we had to fill it from the shower, we reported it to the staff but it was never fixed.

Our shower was in a dangerous state, not only did it have a hole in the rubber pipe just below the shower head but the metal trunking that should cover the pipe was unwinding so that if you were not careful it would scratch you and if not careful cut you. We had to hold our hands over the hole otherwise it just sprayed around the bathroom; we therefore flooded the bathroom every time we had to flush the loo! The towels had seen better days they were hard and literally sand papered you dry, they produced a cloud of fluff as you shook them. Oh by the way the water was switched off twice and the power was also switched off on two occasions.

As the week progressed it became clear why the rooms were not cleaned properly, the two cleaning staff had to clean well over 50 rooms, and ours happened to be later on their round so was never cleaned before 4.30 pm twice we were woken from our afternoon nap at 5.30 pm so that they could ";clean"; the room. We often came back later and our door was left unlocked, keys to all the rooms were just left lying around on the stairs by the cleaners.

Talking to other guests they had similar problems with water and general facilities. We had a large picture fall on us at 4 am in the night of day 4 luckily it did not injure each of us or smash and shower us in glass, but obviously woke us both up with a real start. The lady who ";supervised"; the cleaning decided that this would be re hung on the evening of our last day, whilst in the middle of our showering and packing, despite my protestations about doing it the next day after we had checked out she insisted. We did not put it on the wall until just before we left.

The girl in charge of the pool bar asked all the younger guests to copy any Playstation Discs, DVD's and CD's and send them to her. She gave me a long list of games that she wanted; no mention was ever made of whether she would send the cash to pay for them or postage. We were told by the Kosmar Rep. that if we wanted to go into Thira she would telephone for a taxi. This place must have the only payphone left in Greece, I asked her to organise a cab she said she would need 20 cents; I reached in my pocket and pulled out some change she grabbed 50 cents stating that she may need to call twice. She disappeared for 20 seconds and came back saying ";I cannot get through, you better off getting the bus"; which we eventually did, no refund though.

By the way if you get Room 9, the room our friends were allocated, I feel sorry for you.
Now I come to the most alarming and sickening part of this report, and I suggest all you prospective holiday makers who read this TAKE NOTE !!

My understanding was that this complex was exclusive to Kosmar but it became apparent on our last day that some guests were staying independently and two rooms were being occupied by a Canadian girl and her fiancé and a supposedly Portuguese man. The latter had been worrying some guests on the day before we came home, he had asked the young Canadian girl if he could watch her shower and had apparently propositioned the girl running the pool bar. He had also tried to lure guests to take a ride in his car to Thira. Nearly all guests on that last morning talked of being uneasy, worried and really wary of this man. Justifiably so, as he had broken into the Canadian's room and stolen their credit cards and cash. The way the owners of the complex treated and reacted to this crime was despicable especially as they had let him go and when asked to call the Police even categorically denied that he was staying at the apartments. Even though he was in the room next door to the Canadian couple and parked his car right in the drive outside their room.

The owner claimed that he had called the police and that they were on their way, and then changed his mind stating that they were not coming and that the Canadians should go with him to Thira. He shouted and screamed at them and kept saying ";you pay your bill and leave now, I take you to Thira"; naturally the Canadians were staying put. They were put under so much pressure by the screaming owner that I was surprised they did not ";crack"; and leave with him as he kept loudly demanding. Even the girl running the pool bar shouted at them ";you not staying here any longer, you pay your bill and leave now";. All the owners wanted was them off the premises as quickly as possible hoping to cover the whole thing up.
If this is how they deal with crime in Santorini then other world travellers beware - the Canadians were the victims but were made to feel that this crime was totally their fault. I was disgusted and left Santorini with a real bad taste in my mouth.

Shame because Santorini is a stunningly beautiful place !

Still convinced that we should pay for the use of Deposit Boxes?

The accommodation was very good, clean, comfortable with everything you needed.

Our apartment was cleaned every day, bed linen changed twice a week.

We found a very nice restaurant (Meteora) where we were made most welcome, which we frequented most lunch times and evenings also had free use of the sun loungers on the beach with waitress service from the bar.

The island is a very beautiful place and everyone is so very very friendly. Will definitely be going back in the not too distant future.

We loved Santorini; it is one of the most picturesque places that we have ever visited. The resort of Perivolos was a pleasant walk from the appartments and there were some good quality eateries there. Th walk into Perisssa was longer but there were more restaurants and bars to chose from.

The Robertos accommodation was basic. Our room was at the very top and was very small. The rooms were dusty; in the end we washed everything down ourselves. The towels had seen better days. We stayed for a week and 3 out of 7 mornings, we had no water in our room until about 9.30/10am. The people who ran the place appeared to be interested only in money; we asked if they would call us a taxi and they made us pay for the phone call!

The pool was lovely but avoid the overpriced food and drink at the pool bar.

Robertos Studios. Perivilos

Perivolos/Perissa was a lovely and peaceful place to stay. The studios were absolutely fine, contrary to a lot of reviews, (do take your own towels though) and the young woman serving the pool bar isn't that bad!
We visited Kamari for one day and found it rather bland in comparison. I enjoyed waking to the chorus of donkeys and cockerels in the mornings! and the studios were a short distance from the beach with a handy 'Euro Market on the way.

If you turn right you can walk down to Vlychada beach- its wonderful. The Fish Taverna and Meteora Taverna are on the way. Both places serve fantastic food, are very friendly, and Irini is a fabulous host at the latter.
Turn left towards Perissa and you will come to 'the Best', which is by no means the best. Charlinas was friendly and we had great food every time. There are also a couple of chilled out and relaxing 'bar' type tavernas-listen for the music and look out for the comfy seats-bliss looking to see on a lovely warm evening.

Needless to say, Santorini is a spectacular and very special Island. If you are thinking of hiring a car-seriously, do it! The best couple of days we had were with our own freedom, going from village, to beach, to town, to beach, then finding a place to watch the sunsets.(There are some great beaches off the beaten track)
With supplies of water, fruit juice, bread and cheese from the supermarket in the boot, and we had all the freedom to go wherever, whenever we wanted (and saved some pennies!).

I think Fira was the most pleasant compared to Imeregovili and Oia, it has more atmosphere, felt less touristy and we went there three times! It is a grat place to stroll around and you don't have to spend a fortune.

A wonderful and fantastic holiday and I will return someday!

We have visited many Greek Islands and stayed in many basic studios, but this has to be the worst.

From the outside the place looks really nice, but inside was a different matter! The first thing we noticed was how grey the towels looked. You expect towels in greece not to be soft but grey and smelly is a different matter. We got drip drying after a shower down to a fine art. The towels were changed once during our 1 week stay with some more grey towels along with bed linen. We had to ask for more toilet paper when it ran out and the bathroom wasn't cleaned once!

Air- conditioning was 7 euros a night, a fan was 3 euros a night and if you wished to have your room for an extra 2 hours before you were picked up by the coach it cost 15 euros. We generally got the impression the owners wanted as much money as they could get out of you with no effort from them. The accommodation is also quite along walk away from the main bars and restaurants, good walking shoes are needed, flip-flops just won't go the distance as I found out!

On the positive side we absolutely loved the island. The views across the caldera and volcano are truely breathtaking. We found the local buses great and really easy to use. They were air-conditioned, regular and all went to Fira. One thing to bear in mind is the time you travel, everyone seems to leave the beach on mass and try to make their way to Fira at the same time around 6.00 - 7.00pm.

We actually went out there this year to plan our wedding there for next year. It was an ideal opportunity to look around the resorts of Perissa and Perivolos at a variety of accommodations for our guests.
From our findings it is worth while to spend a little extra and not go for the cheapest of the cheap. We won't be recommending the Robertos Studios!

Robertos Studios was very clean. The rooms are very spacious but basic. There is cooking facilities but we never used them. The fridge/freezer was a godsend. There were two young men constantly cleaning the rooms each day and the pool area.

The pool was lovely, very deep at one end and plenty of sunbeds. The bar manager Vangelis was excellent and spoke good english. We would recommend if eating from the bar to wait until he is on duty, the portions are much better. The owner's wife speaks very little english and the daughter can be ";pushy"; as she is always trying to sell you something - we tried to avoid when possible. The area itself is very baron and Robertos looks the best there is around. It is 5/10 minutes walk to the beach (you can't miss it). Perviolos is much quieter than Perissa but you can walk along the front to Perissa and this only takes about 25 mins (slow pace). The taverners are all on the front and more or less the same, never had a bad meal and all the Greeks seemed very friendly.

Santorini itself is very beautiful and would certainly recommend you tour around the island and take in the beautiful sites.

We loved it at Robertos.

Our apartment was great,it was huge but I think talking to other holiday makers it was the only one like it but others that we spoke to said their rooms were ideal. Our bed linen and towels were changed every two days, this is the best we have had anywhere. The showers were a bit hit and miss but hey this is Greece,(though we had the same problem in Spain last year!)Take some toilet roll with you as they do not provide it though the shop across the road had everyday essentials.

We paid for the air conditioning and were really glad we did,it was one of the first times on holiday that we have slept well,a little expensive but well worth it.

The pool was lovely and the poolside bar was good. The views from the pool area are great mountains one side and sea the other. The seafront was some distance away but not that far,10 minutes stroll, our children never complained once about it so its not that bad.The restaurants and tavernas were all on the front and there were some nice ones,The Best and Meteora were the ones we enjoyed they were very good with children.Meteora has a traditional greek night on mondays,it doesn't cost you anything other than your meal. All the restaurants don't mind how long you stay there,we sat most nights having a drink after our meal, they like you to stay and talk.

We took the bus into Thira rather than hiring a car,1.5 Euros. The views are stunning along the way and Thira is fantastic. This is the place to do any shopping, lovely little lanes leading up the mountain shops either side.Try the filled crepes at NRG delicous. We walked down the 573 steps but came back up on the cable car,the views were breathtaking.

Our youngest son had an accident while we were there (stiches under his chin),everybody was so great.Costas the Kosmar rep sat with us at the hospital and kept checking upon us at the apartments. The Best restaurant made such a fuss over him, giving us special plasters to put on him so he could go in the swimming pool, lots of ice cream to make him happy. What lovely people.

Overall our holiday was perfect.

My now husband and I went to Santorini to get married and the island iself made our day the best it could have been.

RESORT - Perivolos was a fantastic resort and directly next to Perissa. Perivolos has restaurants and bars lined up on the coast road and there are plenty to choose from. The are several bars that are spohisticated and Italins tend to go in those, from 4 - 6pm dance on the bars and by the pools in their bikinis and then have a game of beach vollyball. These bars are always shut after 6pm, which is weird. It is about a 5 - 10 min walk into the center of Perrisa where ther is more choice of restaurants and bars. The Italian is fantastic, you must make sure you try it. A few music bars are open until around 4 or 5 in the morning.

The beach is black sand/shingle, very clean and if you go to the Perivolos end much bigger and quieter. The Perrisa end is rocky and you can have hours of fun watching people trying to get in and out of the sea whilst maintaing some dignaty. The weather was fantastic the entire time we were there, but very windy, which is a welcome relief as it makes the nights much cooler. There are hardly any mosquitos due to the dry and windy weather. There are numrous street dogs(as the locals called them) and are all very friendly and in need of a few good meals.

ACCOMADATION: The Robertos are clean but basic, I have been going to Greece for as long as I can remember and know how basic Greece can be and these were the worst. The owners aren't very helpful if you need a taxi etc. These are in a quiet area of the resort within 10 minutes walk to the resort centers.

I would rcommend a vist to Santorini, we had the best holiday ever and will be going back in a few years.
