"Villa Olympia review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I was not sure whether to write this review as I wanted to keep this all to myself. For the first time, I booked over the internet and booked my flight separately. We had delays with the flight but on arriving in santorini the hotel said they would pick us up and they were not there, so we got in a taxi. 25 Euros, so you can imagine we were not pleased. But on arriving at the hotel we were greeted with smiles and apologies, so next time I think I will send an E-mail to the hotel a couple of days before we arrive.
The room itself is clean and the air conditioning, safe box, fridge are all included in the price our friends stayed in a nearby hotel and had to pay daily for everything.
Villa Olympia is family run, The husband does all the transfers, the wife and daughter run the hotel and bar and the other daughter runs the local excursions and cars in an office next to the Euro market which is 100 yards down the road. The hotel pool was quite large and really clean, the bar pool was really cheap but the only food they did were toasties, which I might add were great. Alcohol very cheap, beer 1.50 euro and spirits 2.50, can of pop 1 euro.
The reason we went to Santorini is my friend was getting married there. Brilliant wedding on the beach!!. On the eve of the wedding we asked if friends could come over for the day and use the facility which she was really pleased as the greeks love a wedding, and also on our last day we invited all the families about 25 people and Olympia brought out free figs and water melon !!
Villa Olympia is surrounded with greenery within the complex but the surrounding area is quite baron. The euro market is 100m away and the beach (black sand) 500m really easy to walk to as that is where all the bars and restaurants are. We went on our last night to Meteor restaurant as they were hosting a greek night with plate smashing for the kids which my children ( 8 + 6 ) thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The room as we had booked a studio room which is normally for 3, they put in a camp bed for my youngest. As a lot of guests were from Athens the turnover was quite quick, the pool was generally empty the choice of sunbeds loads, We asked Olympia for a bigger room if she had one. Surprising we were shown rm 25 which was huge, you had a very big veranda with table and chairs, large kitchette with fridge and all the stuff you needed to cook. wardrobe, table and chairs. Double bed and a single with bedside table along the wall. We were delighted.
On the whole the family were absolutely lovely you just had to ask and it would be no trouble. If you want a friendly place to stay this is it. When we were due to leave Olympia bought the kids a night light for their room and my husband and I a little plate with a stand.Perivilos is quite quiet but you can go into Perissa, local buses every half and hour and air conditioned. or into Thera which takes 1/2 hour on the bus but only costs 1.60 euro. Loved the whole place as it is not commercialised yet, with big hotels and lager louts and a great holiday for the family.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just got back from an excellent holiday in Santorini .The resort is wonderful for couples who want to get away from it all .
My partner has been to the villa before and we booked via greekhotel com flights were with astreus airline booked through Manos and were wonderful.
Villa Olympia have classic greek style apartments which are spotless and cleaned everyday (new towels and sheets).
The whole family are very helpful and always welcoming right from the point where you are met at the airport and brought back in Vagelis Van stopping to show us the views.
The pool is lovely and clean .
Perivolas and Perissa are wonderful with lots of tavernas and bars with excellant food to enjoy.
We particularly liked Charlinas in perivlolas and the Beach Bar in Perissa with live music.
The capital Thira is nice with stunning views but we both loved the sunset at Oia .
Any one wishing to chill out and escape the rat race ....this is the place to go
