Returned from Kamari Santorini on Wednesday of this week. Have been recently to Samos, and stoupa on the mainland, and some years ago to skiathos and corfu,so know the islands well.Yes very pretty, but totally geared up for tourists, expensive for what it was, but as I have just read another comment on this week I MUST add the same warning, Last Sun eve, a very disappointing, luke warm so called sea food meal for 2 without starter or dessert and coffee, and with only 2 drinks each was 157 euros.
Will not be returning.

We spent a week at this establishment and would not recommend it for anyone.

We arrived on Tuesday 1st May 2007 to find the hotel was nowhere near ready to accept guests.

The swimming pool was empty and was not ready for use until Saturday 5 May.
There was also a rather unpleasant dry, musty smell present which was particulary bad in the rooms.

This smell was presumably due to the hotel being closed up for the Winter since it appeared less obvious as the week went on, although it was still noticeable on the day we left.

I have to say that there appeared to be a lot of hotels and restaurants in a similar state of unpreparedness along the seafront but I am unaware if they had any guests staying with them.

In fact at the start of the week, the resort looked rather tacky and run down, although it did improve as the week went on.

We found the management and staff very unhelpful, we requested a room change because of building work right outside our window but they were reluctant to help.
They had little choice however, when a leaking toilet flooded the bathroom.

It would appear that we made the mistake of arriving on the ";first day of the season"; but surely if bookings are accepted then everything should be ready before any guests arrive.

The resort itself certainly looked a lot better when we left but I was still not terribly impressed with Kamari as a whole.

I can recommend the food and service at the ";Bella Napoli"; towards the opposite end of the sea front walk, this calls itself a Pizzeria and Trattoria but in fact serves a lot more that that.
The Lamb Kleftiko is particulary good.

If you decide to visit Thira, then I can also recommend the ";Naoussa"; restaurant, very good food at reasonable cost. Get there before the sunset though, it gets very busy.
(It is next door to a Chinese restaurant)

To sum up, don't visit Santorini till at least the third week in May - a lot of it is shut!!
There are better hotels than the Poseidon Beach - do youself a favour and seek them out

Very disappointing, forget 4* more 2+....
who gives these ratings?
For the price of over £1.000 each for 2weeks, we was expecting something special, wrong, our room was approx 10 by 10 ft, with seperate toilet facilities,no where to sit except for the bed, french doors opening to a weed patch surrounded by shrubbery and trees, no view at all, with 2 plastic garden chairs and table...
One thing I must say is that the place was kepy very clean 7 sheets and towels were changed almost every day, well done the maids.....
The food! a reasonable choice to suit all tastes at breakfast, breads and cakes, cold meats and cheese, scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, frankfurters, and cheese toasties, all which were kept in a covered metal dish and were invariably luke warm...yoghurt, fruits and jam,but all kept on an open side table with no coverings from 7.30 - 10.00.....

Evening meal, apperitifs, plenty of mixed salads and dressings, once again uncovered and not kept chilled....
A choice of 2 starters, invariably luke warm, a choice of 2 main meals, i.e lamb chops (with a mouthful of meat) with a garnish of veg, this night was an absolute joke, the many nationalities that were eating there were all giving the thumbs down sign, and it was the highlight of the evening to see peoples reactions to what was delivered for the main course, and once again it was invariably luke warm, though we did have about 3 good main courses out of 14,once we were served Spicy meat balls that were stone cold and had to send them back requesting that they zapped them in the microwave, this was the first hot!!! meal we had...
A good selection of 5 deserts every night but once again open to all the elements (mainly the flies which couldn't wait for meal times)...
Wine was very exspensive, i.e 4 1/2 euros for a very small glass of wine....once again most people drank bottled water at 2 1/2 euros....and some people even bought there own in to the restaurant, personally I didn't have the nerve to do that....
The whole place lacked personality, you could hear a pin drop, although we did get some back ground music in the second week, which I believe only happened after many requests.....

The pool was beautiful, but once again it was like a morgue, hey we didn't want blaring music just a little quiet back ground atmosphere.....
It would have been nice to see a display board at the pool bar with prices, once again you were stung after ordering something, so you never done it again, they hardly had any customers.....
On one particular afternoon it was very windy, and a couple of huge gusts blew glasses and bottles from a vacated lounger and table they went with a terrific clash, the 2 male bar staff completely ignored the situation they were standing there doing nothing, after 5 mins I went over to request they clear up the broken glass, 5 mins later they bought over a bot water and 2 glasses!!!!we told them No..clear up the glass, which one tried to pick up with his fingers, we told them no sweep it up its dangerous, it will cut peoples feet, he reluctantly went and got a broom and dust pan and flicked it around, in the end we took it off him and done it ourselves, his remark when told to do it properly was Greek Men don't clean.....
I mean a pool area and bare feet.....

Our rep was less than useless, she gave us the wrong time for the welcome meeting, we turned up and nobody was there, apparently she made a mistake....
this was held another venue....
When we did finally catch up with her in the second week, and told her what we thought and showed her our accomodation, she just acted mute, with the comment well this is Greece.....Hey we have been doing Greek Isles for 20 yrs and have never had to complain.....
God I know it sounds like we are wingers but I am positive all companys that put there customers in this hotel received complaints ( all Nationalities )

Santorini, Perissa beach, and around absolutely wonderful, lovely Taverna's and food, HELLO to the wonderful staff of the CHARLENA a very busy taverna in Perissa, you kept us entertained with enthusiasm and chat and kindness to all your customers, Mike, Theo, Theodore, Shane the Aussie Lad, the best plate and glass breaker in Santorini....Give this place a try for wonderful food and entertainment, watch Mike charm the customers in, and make everyone special..they made our holiday.....

The rooms at Krokos are pretty basic but the views are absolutely fantastic, Imperovigli is beautiful because of the views but you need to go into fira every night as it has no bars and only a couple of resturants. I would stay up here again as its worth paying the extra money for the views alone, If you stay at one of the beach resorts you could be anywhere !! Santorini is the most beautiful place on earth and a must for romantics !

Just returned from Santorini, first time to greece, what an eye opener. To celebrate silver wedding a time for ourselves away from the norm, thuis was to be extra speacial. The plane had 148 passengers 146 went to Kamari 2 went to Imergrovigli the only 2 english speaking people there .lThe veiws were breathtaking the accomadation was traditional for jesus it was a cave, every morning my husband said he,d rose from the dead. No local nightlife had to go into Fira but there,s only 37 taxies on the island.8 Taverns 3 supermarkets 1 bakery 1 speed bank 4 care hire companys.

Thats the day and nigh life in the village , we were advised thois would be just what we were looking for , personally i like a bit of life. That said the weather was great, feeling relaxed but how many greek churches and ocean liners can you look at.The airport well thats a lonmg story , just to say duty free was like a local newagents departure gates were french windows, and ther was,nt enough seats for the passengers.

Santorini was sold as a magical place to stay, on photos it is but real life, thats a different thing.Best thing aboiut the holiday was counting the days to come home, no really it was meeting the australian family who were touring the world, thank god he was a Dr I had a kidney infection and he treated me, and we could understand them, blessed are the last 4 days of our holiday.

Cant wait for November when we are off to Tenerife, visiting the Irish Times for the crach a week every year sets us up.

The studios were kept very clean and the pool is like a warm bath. The beach was very close with easy access to the bars and taverenas. I would like people to be aware that although the studio's claim to be self catering the family do not allowe you to take any food or drink you have not bought in their bar round by the pool area. They claim it is a tax thing, but unfortuneltly this meant that when spent much more money than we expected. We did try to self cater to save money but the facilites were not very good in the room. However if you konw all of this and it comes as no great shock the palce is wonderful.

The hotel is fantastic and very clean, the rooms are very spacious. I would ask to stay in room 517 or 516 they had the most amazing views of Kamari and they over looked the pool aswell. The Hotel is family run and this shows in the atmosphere around the pool.

The snack bar at the Hotel has quite a lot of choice, from sandwhiches to salads and burgers. They also sold ice creams, waffles, milkshakes etc. The price of food was quite reasonable for Santorini but the Beer was very expensive, a large local beer was 4.50 euros everywhere else in Kamari was between 3-4 euros.

The hill leading upto the hotel is fairly steep. but it only takes about 5-10 minutes to get to the resort centre and beach.

Our recomendation for meals would be, if you like Italian definately try the Balcony which you will see is on the road leading down to the beach also there is a one a few doors prior to this which has a lovely Garden out the back (it's on the same side as the balcony). Generally all of the food we ate out there was quite nice but please do me and yourselve's a favour and DO NOT eat in a fish restaurant along the front called Summertime. We got ripped off in there paying nearly 100 euros for a meal that was very poor.

San Georgio Villa is a very good place to stay in Santorini. The owner is very friendly. With reasonable price, they offer free transfer from port to the Villa, good breakfast, air-conditioned and clean room.It is located in the heart of the City centre of Santorini. It is within walking distance to the main bus station and shops.

The food in Santorini is very nice and cheap. Especially the Grill house near San Georgio Villa. You can have the most wonderful pitta(Kebab)for just 1.50 euro.We ended up going there almost every meal as it is so irresistable. The shop owner regconised us and gave us free red wine on our last meal.

We stayed at the Sweetheart studios in Kamari. Nicolena, the owner, was lovely and smiled a lot when her English failed her. The whole family ran the place together, and lived on site; it made us feel like we were real guests and not just another bunch of Brits on holiday. The studios are about 10 minutes from the resort centre which was an ideal location. They were very typically Greek - i.e. basic but clean. The bathroom was also typically Greek! Do make sure you take a kettle as there was a pot for boiling water for tea but it was a bit grotty and it took an age to boil.

The resort was lovely - very cosmopolitan - no fish n chip shops, union jack shorts or karaoke - which was exactly the way we like it. Generally the tavernas were better than the restaurants - our favourite was called Semelli. Try the mixed appetisers and the house wine!

The beach was a bit of a disappointment - go to the top end by the mountain, the sunbeds are more expensive but that's because the beach is much nicer there.

We went in May and it was cold some days - and freezing every night! Don't just take a sweater - take a jacket. I had to buy a fleece whilst I was there!

We hired a jeep one day but in hindsight we were much better off using the buses. Despite what the rep said, we found them to be extremely reliable, cheap and safe.

We saw most of what there was to see on the island - but our favourite was Ia. We ate at Strogili restaurant and got an unrestricted view of the sunset - absolutely not to be missed.

We went to Akrotiri which I have to say was a bit of a disappointment - but it would have been even more so had we not gone to the museum in Thira which held all the artefacts that were found on site. Had we just been to the excavation, it wouldn't have made much sense.

All in all, a fantastic holiday. We completely fell in love with the island - and we will be going back in a few years' time.
