The beaches are lovely and clean with clear water and clean sand, the beach we used had a fantastic beach-bar and the beach was set up in a way that it never felt crowded. The restaurants are friendly and excellent quality, the food is amazing and the waiters are the most welcoming people in the world that will bend over backwards to make your meal perfect.

The beaches here are the cleanest I have ever seen. There were lots of children playing about and the parents didnt seemt o mind so I can assume its a very safe place. The local dining was lovely but better in the surrounding towns.

i have to answer the questions so no nightlife, not much to see or do SOUNDS MAGIC TO ME. Real Greece, PRICES in some places out of this world, EXCELLENT beach nice water, good bus links very busy road no pathways WHERE DOES ALL OUR MONEY GO. Greece needs to invest in some pathways or slow the traffic through the village to 20 MPH.IF YOU HAVE KIDS KEEP HOLD TIGHT.

Resort has a number of bars and restaurants all serve good food some have the occasional Greek night. The beach is excellent and has a water taxi that will take you into Skiathos town if you fancy a change from the bus. It is easy to catch a bus from one end of the island to the other and they run every 10 to 15 minutes during the summer.

Skopelos review

"Review of Skopelos Town"

67%
of reviewers would recommend this

Open quote

We went to Skopelos in August 2009 and absolutely loved it. It’s relatively unspoilt but there is still plenty to do. It is popular with Greek and Italian tourists which is always a good sign. Here is an overview of some of the restaurants we visited and our hotel.

Restaurants

Platanos 6/10 - Situated in a busy square in Skopelos Town this restaurant is always busy. They serve traditional Greek food and have good home-made pitta breads. The service was fast and efficient and the food was what you would expect in your standard Greek taverna, although it was good value for money.

Finikas 7/10 – Situated a little walk out of Skopelos Town but well worth the walk. The views of Skopelos Town and bay are excellent. A bit more relaxed than the restaurants in town. The owners are very friendly, but they don’t like you to feed the cats! The food is good quality “home-cooked” food; the house wine is also very good.

Englezos 5/10 – Situated towards the end of the harbour this restaurant has always got people waiting to be seated. However, from our experience we found that we were rushed in and rushed out as if on a conveyor belt. After waiting a few minutes for a table we were told to go and wait next to a table where a couple had just been given their bill. The food was good quality standard Greek fayre. This restaurant does not accept Visa.

Anna’s 9/10 – This is a fantastic garden restaurant that is well worth making the effort to find. The menu is amazing with more unusual choices than most traditional Greek tavernas, for example, one of the starters is Skopelos pie with almonds and strawberries (this by the way was delicious!). For those tiring of the usual meat dishes a wide choice of salads are available including rocket, soft cheese and peach (again, delicious!). The staff are friendly and their Retsina is very good.

The Orchard 8/10 – This restaurant is situated off Platanos Square and has a Greek name which translated means The Orchard. The surroundings are lovely and have the feel of an English garden. The menu is varied and again offers more unusual choices than most typical Greek tavernas. Booking is essential during the high season.

Alexander’s 7/10 – A very nice courtyard restaurant with an impressive deep well. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food is of a good quality. The menu is what you would expect in a Greek taverna.

Agioli 9/10 – This restaurant is attached to The Skopelos Village Hotel situated a little walk out of the town but it is well worth the walk. This restaurant is very up-market and booking is advisable. The menu is modern and not entirely Greek (we ate there on a number of occasions and had risottos, pork with prunes and mash potato and meatballs with vegetables and mash potato). They have an extensive wine list as well as a good choice of deserts. The interior of the restaurant is very stylish and there is a relaxed ambiance created in part by the carefully chosen music.

Agnanti (Glossa) 9/10 – This restaurant has a roof terrace with amazing views. The food is of a very good quality with a mixture of Greek and modern international cuisine. We highly recommend the chicken dolmades dish which consists of a chicken breast stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes wrapped in vine leaves and the pork with prunes.

Things to do/go/see

• Glossa/Loutraki • Agnondas • Panormos • A boat trip to Alonossis • Agios Ioannis • Limnonari beach

Achladies Bay review

"Perfect Beach"

Achladies has everything you need, with the sea taxi to take you into town in the evening avoiding the busy buses into town. The beach is a blue flag beach, clean and great for swimming at any time of the day. You can rent a couple of sunbeds and parasol for €8 or just sit at the end of the beach where the rocks act as natural shade. The local supermarkets are very competitive on prices all with fresh bread daily and tons of good quality fruit and veg. My only complaint about the holiday was having to return home at the end of it.

Skiathos is for sun and beech worshippers. Not much to do here apart from sunbathing and swimming related activities. The old town has shops, restaurants and bars. 99% are Greek owned and run. The fashion is to eat drink and talk the night away OK if you like that sort of thing. Drinks and food are expensive and some of the taxi drivers rip you off by hiring your cab to another couple while your in it. Both couples end up paying full price. The locals are playing on the Mama Mia thing lots of referencing to the movie and its stars. If you like the Greek way and a quiet holiday you will like it here if you need more in the way of sightseeing and diverse night life go elsewhere.

Koukounaries review

"Beautiful part of the island"

91%
of reviewers would recommend this
resort to a friend

Open quote

The beautiful Koukounaries beach is approx 15 mins walk away from Sergios and bed hire is approx Eur8 per day for 2 beds and umbrella.

By day Koukounaries is busy as the beach a quite big with lots of water sports and day trippers. By night this part of the islands becomes a lot more quiet and relaxed. There are around 10 maybe more restaurants to chose from although we decided to venture a few nights into the town of Skiathos which is very easy on the local bus and takes 30 mins and costs Eur3.60 per person as apposed to a taxi which costs Eur20 approx. I would recommend anyone to stay clear of a restaurant in Koukounaries called 'Georges' which was over priced and very very very bad. The food portions were tiny and cold and you had to pay for your food upfront which should have indicated to us there and then that something was very wrong but heh you live and learn.

All in all i would recommend anyone to stay at Koukounaries if you want to be near the beach in a fairly quiet part of the island but with easy access into the town of Skiathos when wanted.

Perfect for a week's break. Eat at Thanos or the beach restuarants - both good and v good prices. Christatki's place on Victoria Road, great Greek night on saturday - very good food and fun dancing followed by a disco - 15 euros for the BBQ. We went into town and other beaches on other days. Buses can be busy - we ended up getting taxis or taking the bus in the other direction to make sure we had a seat and then going back into town.

Troulos review

"Troulos"

88%
of reviewers would recommend this

Open quote

The nearest beaches to Morfo are Troulos to the south west and Aghia Paraskevi to the south east. Both were 20 minute walk and both are fine family beaches with good swimming and adequate snorkelling among the rocks at either end of both beaches. If you want lively/touristy beaches then Koukounaries and Banana Beaches are probably more your flavour. Morfo Apartments are in a good location for local tavernas - there are a multitude to choose from but our two favourites were Nectar Ambrosia on the main road which was more of a 'restaurant' serving some innovative dishes as well as trad Greek food and Kalybi which was a lovely little taverna with a small menu of very good basic Greek food at a very reasonable price. We ate there three times. Bus stop 18 is a 5 min walk from apartments and a bus will get you to Skiathos Town in 20 mins for €1,80 each or, the other way, Koukounaries Beach for €1,40 each. Be warned though, these buses get very very packed through the day and you are more likely to be standing than sitting! All-in-all, Troulos itself is fairly quiet and probably ideal for couples wanting a quiet holiday and young families. There is no distant and constant thump of bass through the night - only cicadas! If that's what you want - better head to Skiathos Town.

Skiathos Town review

Skiathos town is just a wonderful destination if you like your typical greek island. The town has 2 qualities, 1. the port & harbour with bars & restaraunts/cafes dotted along its length, 2.you have the town which has a wonderful aray of tiny streets branching off the main street which is a delight to behold. This really is your typical greek island, it must be good because it is the main destination for the greeks themselves to holiday. The island also has a lot of great beaches that can be reached by local bus or your own transport, the bus runs every 15 mins from the town, stop 1 to the termination at stop 26, about half these stops offer you a beach to enjoy.
