Yet another great holiday in Skiathos, my husband and I arrived last week in September, weather was not particularly good lots of storms but did get better and still very warm.

This is my fourth visit to the island last visit was around 8 or 9 years ago, and it has not changed that much except for a lot of building of apartments and villas. We found this holiday very relaxing as we did a lot of walking and seen Skiathos in a different light than just lying on the beach all day. One of the best walks if you are a walker is to Mandraki beach and then along the scenic route back along the side of the mountain through beautiful trees and heathers which takes approx one and half hours back into Troulos, the views are fantastic also along the headland from Platanias beach which brings you back to Kanapitsa.

Our favourite beaches although they are all different and very nice were Kanapitsa, Nostas Beach Resort, Kolios and Esperides beach the four have first class Tavernas which excellent food and service. The beach taverna on Esperides beach is part of the Esperides Hotel which although is probably getting to look a bit dated from outside is very nice with lovely gardens and public areas again the food first class. Little Banana Beach is lovely as long as you do not mind the nudists but it is very relaxing, don't bother with Big Banana Beach which we found, dirty and rubbish lying around everywhere. Water taxis was the best from Esperides to Skiathos town for a change if you did not want to catch the bus.

Favourite restaurant in Skiathos which has always been very good for years is the Asprolithos, excellent food and service, keep away from the restaurants on the harbour. If you like watching the planes landing at the end of the runway go to Mynos or Mylos taverna right at the end of the sea with a mill, again very good food and drinks very reasonable prices which is owned by Kathy and her greek husband and have a lovely three year old daughter called Stephanie, they have a fantastic Greek Night on a Monday which is very popular and we really enjoyed the evening, does not matter what time you go during the day it is always busy especially with the english and their potato salad is wonderful.

Take a day trip to Skopelos on one of the boat trips from the harbour although it was at the end of the season tavernas and shops were starting to close down but very enjoyable. Will go back again, met some wonderful people, good time to go if you do not want the crowds and the buses are not so busy. For a relaxing holiday Skiathos is a must with the best beaches I have ever seen - sea is like a pond and if you are lucky you will see dolphins.

Skiathos is my favourite Greek Island and you do not get any yobbo's!!!

Agnadi Studios in Achladies Bay area of Skiathos is perfect BUT they are in a hilly location as everyone else seems to mention. Recently got back from there and my was it hot? Oh yes! A bit too hot for our liking. Alice and Andreas are perfect hosts at the Agnadi studios. The studios themselves are basic but very clean. The great thing at these apartments is the air con's free! Essential whilst we were there. Lovely pool, lovely views across the bay but as mentioned earlier, HILLY!

Skiathos Town's the place to be at night. We had heard numerous people saying how expensive the food was in town. To the contrary it was very very reasonable. We ate on the harbour front most nights and the most we paid for a meal for 2 with drinks was never more than 25 euros. We thought that was spot on. The atmosphere around town is amazing. Ok, it's not Benidorm (it's definetly NOT Benidorm) but there's always a buzz about the place.
The Greeks we found were very pleasant.

Taxis to and from Achladies Bay varied in price from 3 to 8 euros. The bus didn't appeal to us, they were always ram jam full. The water taxi from the bay into Skiathos is only 1.5 euros and is a lovely way of travelling into town at night. A favourite place of ours in the morning was the Amaretto tavern/cafe which is situated just at end of the runway just 2 mins from the airport. Great breakfast there and a fantastic viewing area for watching the planes take off and land. Don't stand too close though. Saw a couple of wigs blown straight into the sea! The runway's short, there's no doubt about that but it certainly doesn't seem to give the pilots any problems. Please give the Amaretto a try, you won't regret it-honest.

We hired a moped for 3 days. Tip: don't bother with a 50cc, you'll struggle believe me. Skiathos is quite hilly in places. Get an 80cc minimum. Take a hairy ride from the east to the west coast (not for the faint hearted)on your moped there's some lovely beaches to be found. Watch out for the taverna on Kechria beach, it's damn expensive! Take a pack up with you if you intend staying there a while. We would definetly go back to Skiathos AND the Agnadi studios but not in peak season again. Fantastic if you like it really hot but when we go again it'll be an early or late season holiday that's for sure.

There were some people we spoke to who didn't like Skiathos for one reason or another but we certainly liked the place. Each to their own as they say.

Just returned from a great holiday at the Agnadi Apartments, Achladies. The apartments are situated up a very steep hill (about 5 mins) and the tranfer coach drops you at the bottom on this hill on arrival. Take some water! Your luggage arrives seperately on a lorry. You are greeted when you arrive and given a key and the remote control for the air-conditioning. While you wait for your luggage (about 1/2 an hour) you can have a drink at the bar (which also serves as reception) or if you have taken swim wear have a dip in the lovely, clean pool.
The Studios, are clean, spacious and modern. Two electric rings, Kettle and basic crockery/cutlery. Adequate for breakfast and snacks.

The views from the Apartments/Pool/Bar are stunning and worth the walk up the hill.
Alice and Andreas are perfect hosts and always friendly and helpful. Food is availale all day, but if Alice has gone for a rest in the afternoon don't ask Andreas for an omelette! His toasted sandwiches are excellent though! Alice is a great cook and we ate at the Apartments most evenings because we had been out and about all day and just wanted to relax in the evening. Skiathos town is easily reached, by water ferry, taxi or bus if you want a lively evening out!

For Supermarkets turn right at bottom of hill (there are some steps half way down for a short cut)and there are three which will deliver free of charge.
We visted quite a few resorts by bus (every 15 mins)and all the beaches are lovely, we found the one in Achladies as nice as any, with watersports, plenty sunbeds (8 euros for 2 beds and an umberella). We managed to find a nice quiet part of the beach and enjoyed the snorkling there. From the Apartments turn right at bottom of steps and you can cut through any of the apartments/hotels to get down to the beach. On Achladies beach there are three beachfront Tavernas serving wonderful cool beers and various food from ice creams and sandwiches to full meals. There is also a small shop on the beach.

I should imagine that later in July the beaches would get very crowded though as it was busy when we went before the schools broke up for holidays. I think the whole of Skiathos could become rather conjested July/August as it is a small Island with only one main road.

The water ferry to Skiathos town leaves every hour from Achladies beach and at 1.5 euros each is well worth it. Takes about 15 mins and runs until about 11.00pm.
Skiathos town is a great resort. Beautiful cobbled streets, lively but with no 'lager louts'. Plenty shops open until early hours of the morning! Lots of good places to eat, catering for everyone. It even has an open air cinema showing English speaking films with greek sub titles. We saw Star Wars and it was quite a surreal experience!
We went on just one Thomson trip, Carosel Cruise, to the other side of the Island and enjoyed a lovely day out and a excellent lunch at a small resort on the mainland (Pelion)- it was rather expensive though.

To sum up. The Agnadi Apartments, Achladies are perfect for a great beach holiday but you do need to be physically fit as most of Skiathos is quite hilly.

Well what another fantastic holiday to Skiathos.

Accomodation

Although the Agnadi is situated up quite a steep hill, it is definately worth it, the views are absolutely stunning.

The apartments were lovely, very clean, and modern (those on the top floor have a bedroom upstairs with en suite toilet).

The pool is lovely, not to crowded, and the pool bar serves really good food, alice is a fab cook, and andreas is nutty but a good laugh.

Resort

We didnt really use much of the facilities in achaladies that being because we tended to go into skiathos town most of the time (only 0.80 cent on the bus and 5 Euros in a taxi). Although akaladia beach is very nice, with a few tavernas lining it.

There are some great restaurants, shops and bars. We did most of our food shopping here too as it was easiar for us.

Overall

Both young couples, older couples and families alike would love the agnadi studioa and Skiathios. Its so chilled out and relaxing, yet lively and good fun.

Last thing, the sunshine cruise is a good day out, so too the island hopping (but don't book the latter with thompson as they seriously rip you off).

Best holiday we've had in years, the Agnadi Studios are clean and modern and the air-conditioning ensured a comfy nights sleep.Despite up a steep hill this is compensated for by the views out from the balcony. If you want a lazy day then everything is on hand, pool and a bar serving excellent food throughout the day cooked by Alice, who claims she never uses frozen ingredients, all fresh.Andreas is an excellent host who helped me along trying to speak Greek.

The bus service is frequent so for about 70 pence or so you can call into town or go the other way for some breath taking beaches.Dozens of excellent restaurants to chose from, all good value for money.
Can't wait to go back someday.

My sister and I have just come back from the Agnadi Studios in Achladies and had a fantastic time there, here's what we thought....

Accomodation: The studios looked pretty new and were very clean. All the rooms have a balcony with a sea view. There is a pool which is most definately an essential after walking up the hill to the apartments. Cooking facilities consisted of 2 electric hot plates (which is pretty standard for apartments, I suppose) but it didn't matter because the Pool bar served food all day and night and it was really nice and reasonably priced.

Resort: To be honest there isn't much actually at Achladies. The beach is probably about ½ mile away down a steep hill and you take your life in your hands walking on the road down to it as there are no pavements and there seems to be a relaxed attitude to road safety (apart from the fact that they're all driving on the wrong side of the road, tut). There are a few supermarkets at the bottom of the hill which will deliver all your shopping back to the apartment for free. There is also a very nice cake shop which is probably 99% resonsible for all the weight I put on while I was away (I may sue them!). There is also a REALLY good restaurant called The Rose Garden just around the corner from the supermarkets which is definitely worth a visit. Apart from that there are a few tavernas on the beach and that's about it.

We hired a jeep for a few days and visited a dog sancutuary in the mountains and a couple of monastries but apart from that we just shuttled between beaches, the best one being Banana Beach (Koukinaries is a nice beach but it was too crowded for my liking). The bus service is good and you can get to all the best beaches using that. There is also a water taxi which goes from the Esperides hotel (near the supermarkets) to Skiathos Town which we used quite a lot as it was less crowded than the buses. I think if I went again, I wouldn't bother hiring a car at all as apart from the main road from Skiathos to Koukinaries, all the others are just dirt tracks up into the mountains and I didn't find driving on them a pleasurable experience AT ALL!

Overall, we had a lovely holiday and Achiladies and Skiathos in general is a lovely place if, like us, you just want to lie on the beach and totally unwind for a fortnight.

there is only one word to describe skiathos, MAGIC.

the agnadi is up a steep hill but was well worth the climb (though tataxis got you to door, 6 euros from town) Andreas and Alice where the most hospitable hosts nothing was to much for them, food was excellant. The town we reached by water taxi we found most places food was realy nice, abit more expensive on water front but if you went up side streets we found quite reasonable. jailhouse was fantastic well worth a visit.

in achlades we ate a few times at the rose garden good food at great prices. over all we loved everything about skiathos and cant wait to go back. hopefully in september.

We stayed in the Agnadi Appartments for two weeks and were not disappointed at all. The views from the appartments are breath taking and all appartments are sea facing and there are only 30 appartments. The rooms are cleaned every day except Sunday and are Kitted out in Ikea furniture.

The appartments are up a slight hill, there is a short cut and it only takes five minutes - would not let it put you off. The appartmnents have a pool bar and resturant. The food was excellent here - we struggled to find better else where. It is a five minute walk to the nearest beach and all other beaches are accessible by bus and definitly a worth going to especially Koukounaries beach.

The pool area was big enough and was never over crowded. The owners are loveley and will do anything to help and they create a friendly atmosphere. The all you can eat B-b-q on a Saturday night is well worth the 20E with a litre of wine per couple. There are three supermarkets at the bottom of the hill and they all deliver your food free of charge. Agnadi is most suited to young and old couples and small famalies.

It is a ten minute bus ride, fifteen minute boat ride or 5 minute taxi ride into Skiathos town. We found the best resturants to be up the side streets rather than the Port. The new port has more trendy bars and clubs. Jailhouse and the Windmall are a must, first class food and the climb up to the windmill is definitly worth the view of the town.

We would not hesitate in returning
