"Panos Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We went to skiathos as we are still investigatig the greek islands and both desperately needed a break, a real relax away from it all. Skiathos is beautiful, really green. The apartments were lovely and clean. Self catering meant we had a little kitchen area, with two hobs a fridge and basic utensils, all fine. The shower was a bit temperamental but sound once you got the hang of it. The views are absolutely stunning.
The staff incredibly helpful and friendly and with a lot of sign language we got on so well. Costas the manager and his family all speak english and Vasillias and Iannis the young men who tend the bar at the eleni apartments (literally 1 minute away)and pool are excellent. You have use of the pool if you're at the panos apartments and it is literally next door, no road in between in fact it feels just like a part of the same complex.
We had family barbeques for all the people within the complex and sat out on our own balcony overlooking the beautiful Agean sea, olive, fig and pear trees.
The beaches are lovely and clean and not busy unless you go to Koukanaris. Buses tend to be the mode of transport but we didn't fancy being packed in like sardines and opted to stay pretty much around the resort. you can hire scooters really cheaply, but gravel rash didn't appeal and they drive in the greek fashion, i.e. suicidally
There are some good shops a few minutes walk away that sell pretty much everything you want and the Patissirie makes croissants to die for. Local shops will also deliver for free, so you don't have to carry it all home yourself, they are however a little expensive. The area is however very steep and not suitable for anyone with hip or walking difficulties. The best supermarket is bus stop number 3. It costs about 4 euro's for a taxi and it really is well worth it if you're going to do your own cooking. Each evening you can get a water taxi 1 euro 50 each and this takes you to skiathos town, where there are plenty of places to eat or just sit and do some people watching. There are also 4 night clubs which go on into the small hours although we didn't try them out most people seemed to enjoy them. If you go into the old town and walk up the hill there are some really good restaurants for those special treats and you sit overlooking the bay as it goes dark and the lights come on it's truly magical.
We'd recommend it to anyone and although we don't go back to places ever. I'm afraid we'll be breaking this tradition for Skiathos, the Panos apartments and Costas's family.
