"Yialis Studios review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
It was our first time in Skiathos and have already decided to go back next year... prepare to get addicted to the island it is beautiful!
Apartments- We had a warm welcome from Nikos and wife Coola who run the apartments and cant do enough for you. The rooms were basic but clean. Lacked amenities, but wasn't really a problem as we tended to eat out(recommend taking a kettle though). The pool was a resonable size and clean with sunbeds always free! The bar is open all day where we were pleased to get an english breakfast, toast and jam, and a hot drink for 6 euros. It also has sky T.V on big screens ideal for you footy fanatics.
Location- Achladies is peaceful, quiet resort with a fantastic beach within 2 mins walking distance. The water taxi runs all day taking you to and from the more lively, yet still uncommercialised skiathos town for 2 euros. We tended to do this at night as there are some fablous places to eat in the back streets (much better than using the bus which always seemed to be rammed with people). There are 3 supermarkets and bakery in walking distance.
Food- Loacally the rose garden is brilliant about 10 euros for a main course. Although, we still perferred the restaurants in town as in the backstreets we found them cheaper, better quality and are mostly set on the little cobbled streets. Never had a bad meal in the 2 weeks we were there!!!
Trips- we well recommend the 'secret skiathos' trip going round the island on boat to 66 beaches... some beautiful sites! Also, the trip to the islands alonessos and skelopelos is well worth the money. With free guided tours optional around the fantastic town (took by a swedish women who spoke 5 languages and her knowledge was incredible) No cars in skelopelos the postman was a man and a donkey carrying the mail. This can be booked through the rep or in the town.
Overall, fantastic island our experience was made better staying in Yalis!

Nikos and his wife Houla who run Yialis Studios were very friendly and could not do enough for you. There 7 yr old son quickly became friends with our son despite neither speaking the other's lingo!
Our main complaint...not with Nikos, but with Airtours.was that we were given a small room with 2 single beds and there were 3 of us. Nikos gave us a ";sunlounger"; bed for our 6 yr old son. This kept collapsing...usuallly n the middle of the night. When I asked our rep for a proper bed and bigger room, she stated none were available for another week! Nikos informed us that he has NO say in alloocation of accomadation and could not understand why a single woman on her own was given a 2 Bedroomed ( DOUBLE BED and SINGLE BED) studio and we were n a room for 2!!!! We are still awaiting an answer from Airtours!!! After a week we ere given a bigger room with 3 single beds and this was adequate. We became friends with the Single woman in the 2 bed studio, who had paid no more or less than we had, and to her delight could not believe the size of her room.
Yials studios and Achladies appeals to people wanting a quiet , peaceful relaxing holiday. Unfortunately our peace was shattered in th 2nd week by he arrival of an extremely noisy loud mouthed and foulmouthed group ( 3 families ) who went out of their way to be rude and offensive, loud, and drunk until 3am most of their stay. They didn't like the place and thought it was far too quiet and boring. They must have drunk the bar dry, and despite protests to the rep by all other guests (there are only 13 rooms) nothing was done to quieten them down! We all felt sure Nikos was pleased his bar takings were up, but it put th rest of us off, spending any time at what was a very pleasant bar/pool area.
I would definately return to Skiathos, but would rather travel independently (MUCH CHEAPER!) than on a package holiday. I have been to 34 Greek Islands in total, and SKIATHOS is very pretty if not a tad expensive. My favourite Greek Islands being Andros and Paros in the Cyclades. Skiathos is quite touristy or should I say geared for tourists, but Ayia Napa, Faliraki, Kavos it is NOT, nor I hope it ever will be!As for Airtours...I wonder why they give us reps. trips are much cheaper booked in town. Go to Skopelos and he Marine Park, Allonissos...and see seals, dolphins etc in heir natural habitat...wonderful.
I won't repeat what others have already written about the resort. It is wonderful if peace and quiet is what you are after. Highly recommend the boat to Skiathos Town as an alternative to the hot and sweaty bus!
Back to Yialis Studios.... the rooms are cleaned 6 days a week to a good standard ( wouldn't have minded more loo roll) the kitchenette facilities were not that great...no kettle odd assortment of plates and cutelry. A microwavw and ome sharper knives would've been useful. The pool was kept clean, despite insects making it their graveyard on a daily basis! Plenty of sunbeds. No Germans to ";bagsy"; them!! The gardens were well maintained and YES we would stay here again..if we could book independently and chose our room when booking! Some rooms definately ALOT better han others.
