The Hotel
When you enter the plaza the immediate impression is of a rather smart Greek hotel, the pool area is lovely, good bar and smart reception with loads of info boards) that to be honest is as far as it extends. For Greek standards yes then the communal areas can be the reason its given its 3+ star rating but when it comes to the rooms i have stayed in 2 star Greek style rooms which have been nicer and more comfortable. We were put in the block at the back of the hotel, which has no view and its very dark and dingy, rooms again very dark which is only nice in the morning when you want a lie in but otherwise is rather depressing, interestingly we asked to be put on the top floor, which the man on the check in confirmed with us, so hence thought we would get, no we were on the second floor, ok not a big problem but without being picky seemed rather odd that we weren't when the check in desk confirmed it with us then proceeded not to. The rooms have TV which is nice and a fridge however you cannot put your own stuff in there, as with most hotels it doubles as the mini bar despite not having a quarter of the stuff in that was on the list.
The bathrooms again dingy, and dirty. Another point to be made is that there is a drain in the middle or the floor, which when you shower the water comes out of and completely floods the bathroom and out into the corridor. Breakfast was ok, a good selection in terms of Greek standards but nothing i would personally eat, same stuff everyday, very watery juice and bread rather stale. The rooms in the main block that had a nice view out to sea seems to be taken up by all the foreign guests (Germans and Russians) and the English were put in the back block. The walls also in the plaza are very thin, you can hear every footstep and everyone's TV, i have never actually stayed in such a noisy hotel. Going back to the Foreign guests also, you cannot get a sunlounger unless up to put your towel out at 7am, this didn't bother us as skiathos has such beautiful beaches we didn't use the hotel pool once. The hotel pool bar was very nice and relaxing, both me and my partner were very happy they showed sky sports news.
Kassiopi
Kassiopi is not a resort just a part/village on the island however it was beautiful, after touring round most of the island I think this is one of the best parts, there is a mini market where you can get essentials and Johnny's restaurant is very good and quite popular in the evenings. We watched to great amusement as he tried to keep his dog quiet. A fantastic walk around the headland took you to some lovely beaches, it a little hilly in places and on a hot day quite tiresome but still worth it for the views etcSkiathos
Sklathos itself is a lovely Greek island still hardly touched by to much tourism which becomes apparent at the lack of naff tourist shops and more traditional style shopping. We took a walk up to the monastery from skiathos town it took about an hour of uphill walking but was fantastic up there followed by a long downhill walk stopping of for pizza on route. We did the boat tour out on the kasandra didn't see any dolphins but still had a nice time. Would defiantly suggest splashing out one night for cocktails on the cushions by the harbour also pop in to the roof top bar for a bit of a laugh, this really isn't my scene on holiday English bars but I had to make an exception to this.

Had a great holiday at the end of May. Weather just right. 30 degs +/-. Would think it would be very hot in july/ Aug. Hotel staff very friendly. Rooms were clean if slightly basic ( but it is 3*). Was a great base for Skiathos. V Nice small beech 150m in front of hotel. Another nice beech slighty bigger 10 min walk away. Quiet around hotel which we liked but was no problem getting into Skiathos town if needed, either by boat or taxi. Johnnys just around the corner(10 min walk) was good for food, reasonably priced, and had a great looking bar. If you get chance hire a speedboat for the day. we used one from Achladies beech. if you phone them they bring it to the jetty by the hotel. Was really good fun with chance to visit other islands and maybe see dolphins. Cost two of us about 70 euros plus 25 euros for fuel. Only place we weren't keen on was Troulos.A bit too touristy for us.
All in all would go back again. V nice.

We decided to take a holiday in Skiathos after being told by friends how lovely it is. We are pleased to say we found it a beautiful island with lovely beaches, lovely unspoilt scenery and lovely locals!
The Plaza Hotel was set in amongst the pine trees and was run by lovely friendly staff who were always pleasant and polite. The hotel was very clean and the rooms basic but adequet. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. As we were there late in the season there wasn't much going on in the hotel but the courtesy bus proved very good as a way of going to Skiathos Town.
Be prepared to do alot of walking if you dont intend to hire a car. There is a good bus service that travels the length of the island but we believe it is packed at the height of the season.
There were lots of nice places to eat in the town and we found Johnneys in Kanapitsa was excellent.
We would go to Skiathos again but earlier in the year as lots of places were closing and would have liked the weather to have been a little bit warmer.
All in all it was a lovely restful holiday in lovely peaceful surroundings and we would recommend the Plaza Hotel as a pleasant place to stay.

We have just got back from Skiathos having done an allocation on arrival with Thomson last week. I think that my boyfriend and I are pretty relaxed, optimistic people and therefore we would have been happy wherever we were. However, we felt as though we had really landed pretty lucky when we arrived at The Plaza.
The hotel is peaceful, spotless, the staff are friendly and helpful (especially the night shift man), the pool is fantastic with great sun loungers and the mix of people that seem to go to The Plaza perfect. There is basically everything you need in a hotel and a bit more. The place where you eat breakfast on the roof terrace has views over the sea you could never tire looking at.
Kanapitsa seemed to me the most ideal resort to be - off the main road that runs the length of the island and pretty much central to the fantastic beaches and Skiathos Town. The sea-taxi also stops on the beach outside The Plaza and is a much calmer way to get into town. One journey in a Skiathos taxi and you will understand!!
If you are staying in Kanapitsa or Nostos, make sure you go to the Greek night at the taverna on Nostos beach on Sunday evenings... I know it may sound a bit cheesy - we were dubious but it really is great fun. You pay a set amount (ten euros I think) and then help yourself to as much of the buffet as you can manage. Great food and some interesting Greek dancing!!!
A jeep into the hills will enable you to see the best of Skiathos - the dog sanctuary (I know it sounds wierd but well worth a visit), the monasteries, the Castro and the best secret beaches all inaccessible without one. You must also have at least one cocktail on the cushions in the harbour of Skiathos Town, make yourself do it before you go home one night.
At our hotel, there were plenty of people returning for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th time. There was even a couple who had come out for a month to get married in Skiathos Town. I would love to go back, I have fallen in love with Skiathos and the people.
If you are staying at The Plaza and you are having last minute worries that you should have booked somewhere else; worry no more. You will have a great time and I'm so jealous of you! Safe journey.

This has put me off booking with Thomsons but I would go back to skiathos and at this hotel with another travel company. The hotel was very clean and there is loads of places to eat. Not alot to do for children but if you do take the children book somewhere with a pool.

I stayed at the Plaza Hotel in June 2004 and I would definetely recommend it if you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday.
Most of the rooms are overlooking the sea. The bedrooms are spacious with satalite TV, mini bar, hairdryer and full bathroom. The breakfast was served on the 4th floor with a terrace, again looking over the sea. The food was excellent and so was the service. The swimming pool was a decent size and can I just say the sunbeds were fantastic. The Plaza is a 2 minute walk to the beach. A water taxi offers a change of scenery you can be in Skiathos Town in about 15 mins. The water taxi runs every hour. The last one back from Skaithos Town is 11.00pm. If that's too early a taxi back to the hotel was about 8 euros. I didn't have a bad meal in the two weeks I stayed in Skiathos. I must recommend a trip to the Windmill Restuarant. It is worth the climb up the steep steps. The views are breath taking.
Can I just say I had a fantastic time in Skiathos, I go to a different Greek Island every year and of all the Islands I have been to, it is definetely one of the best.
If you like Greece than you will love Skiathos and the Plaza Hotel !!!!

Overall Hotel Rating:
The Plaza Hotel is situated about 7kms from Skiathos Town, in the Bay of Kanapitsa. It is fairly isolated and therefore the beach, which is 100m from the hotel is never crowded. The hotel is well run, clean, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are reasonably roomy and perfectly adequate. When booking do specify you want one with air conditioning as not all have them. You will pay ?6 a day for it but it is well worth it.
The pool area is large and never crowded, despite the hotel being nearly full when we were there. There is a bar for snacks during the day as well as the restaurant. The bar's atmosphere changes at night and the view over the bay is spectacular - it is well run by Elefterios who plays an eclectic mix of music and apart from being part philosopher, therapist, good all round guy, mixes some wicked cocktails!
On the beach is a taverna which is well run and gets busy in the evening as it has a fantastic view over the sea. It is a little pricey but the food is good. In fact apart from one or two exceptions (Avoid the restaurants on the front in Skiathos) all the restaurants we went to were good to excellent. There is a place on the beach to hire boats and for watersports, run by Gabi and Costas. To hire a sunbed costs ?8 For ?90 you can get a boat for the day and go round the island and discover (like we did) some of the most amazing beaches anywhere in the world! How one small island has such a huge numer of different types still staggers me!
Just down the steep road is a supermarket and two more restaurants/tavernas. There is Johnny's which is family run that does some of the best the best tsasiki as well as really good grills and an excellent fish soup. The other restaraunt Tafiki(?) is on the beach and the food is excellent. We also would recommend the following places - Ambrosia and Nectar in Troulos - superb traditional Greek cuisine, Caldera in Skiathos Town, The Windmill for its fantastic views and food and finall Don Quixote Tapas bar again for the views and the fantastic food and the best calamari.
Skiathos town is reached by either taxi (?10 there, 6.50 back) or water taxi - ?2 per person - boat is best! The town has many shops and restaurants. It is bustling between 8.30pm and 1.00am.
Beware of the mosquitoes as they are will chase you with a vengance if you do not have insect repellant all over you. The weather as you'd expect is hot, and the sea at times as flat as a bath.
The island is beautiful, and is a treasure - I can honestly say we have just returned from the best ever holiday we had as a family and will be there again next year.
