When we arrived on the lovley island of Skiathos, we were met by a smiling Stavros, who owns the villas/apartments at Eye-Q. He took us in his jeep to our accommodation, which impressed the three of us immensly. A large living/dining room with a great kitchen area. Two large bedrooms with built in wardrobes and two bathrooms.Fantastic Air-con,Two balconies, both with stunning views, which we enjoyed looking at whilst having breakfast most mornings.
The villas are set off the main road, up a steep track hence the stunning views from all the balconies, the drawback is that this makes them a nightmare for anyone with walking difficulties or back problems. Stavros is a really friendly man, who helped us out with a couple of queries we had, and he will do whatever he can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Eye-Q doesn't have it's own swimming pool, but you are permitted to use the one at Nicholas Studios just 100metres or so down the track. Obviously it is polite to buy a couple of drinks or some snacks from the bar,as the pool does not charge for entry. They do some fabulous cocktails and the food is quite good also.

The harbour and main town centre of Skiathos is a good 20minute walk form Eye-Q, so you are better off walking into town and getting a taxi back later in the evening. It would be an absolute nighmare to try and catch the bus on the main road, as it was always bursting with tourists on board by the time it reached stop 5. Tell the taxi driver you need to get out at Nicholas Studios as they have never heard of Eye-Q as it's only a couple of years old.We used to just walk up the track from Nicholas Studios as the taxi couldn't make it.Usually cost us 5 euros.

There are some lovely restaurants in Skiathos Town, but a couple of reasonably priced ones along the beach on Megalli Ammos. Portobello is a wonderful restaurant in town, but can work out quite expensive if you have cocktails and drinks. The 3 of us met old friends there, and our share of the bill for a good evening came to about 80 euros. In the Megalli Ammos Taverna, which was a very simple beachside taverna the 3 of us ate a wonderful meal with wine and dessert for about 25 euros. Another favourite cafe for cocktails and coffee with waffles, almost opposite the New Marina-East Harbour, up the road from the taxi rank was called Sollevante. The girls enjoyed the Ice lounge and cocktail Bar, which had bean bags and sofas outside. Near the club strip was a lovely bar named Pink Cadillac which was fun also.
The shops are very plentiful selling all sorts of wonderful jewellery, souvenirs etc.
Try the Vita Juice and Yogurt Bar if you fancy something healthy and thirst quenching in the daytime, they make loads of different types plus sell amazing ice-cream also!
We saw a couple of new films in the outdoor cinema whilst we were there, but chairs are not that comfortable and it's 7 euros each entry fee.

The boat trip to Skopelos and Alonissos is a lovley day out, but long and tiring. We set sail at 10am and didn't arrive back until 8pm. The dolphins followed the boat for a short way near Skopelos. We loved the scenery on both islands, especially the wonderful clear water on Alonissos where the snorkelling would be fantasic.
Skiathos has a marvellous riding school in Koukounaries, the other end of the island. You just jump out at bus stop 25 and it is right nearby. My eldest daughter had a magical evening riding through the forest, discovering the secret beach at sunset and thoroughly enjoying the scenery. The horses are beautifully kept by lovely people at the stables. The instructor is very nice and she speaks excellent english. I think it cost about 40 euros for 1 1/2 hours.

The best beach at that end of the island for spending the day with the family is not the biggest one, but a smaller quieter one named Ag. Eleni. The sunbed hire lady is delightful, unlike the bloke on the main beach. I don't usually swim in the sea, but the water was so lovely on Skiathos, I was very proud of myself that I managed to do this with my girls instead of just watching them from the beach!

I really don't think that Skiathos would appeal to everyone, as it's very peaceful, laid back and tranquil compared to lots of other greek resorts. The tourists were mainly families, couples over 30 and a few pensioners. I think that 18 to 30's would be bored stiff. There are no water parks, go-kart tracks and amusement arcades there, but plenty of water sports on the beach.

Having said that, I would go back tomorrow as I just fell in love with the island and we had such a wonderful time.
