Overall Hotel Rating:
we have just returned from megali ammos, the nicholas studios, and we had the best time.the studios are about a five minute walk from the beautiful beach and approx ten minutes from town.after going to various greek islands skiathos is probably the friendlist island yet,RAMONA AND ACHILLES who run the bar at nicholas are just brilliant, nothing is too much trouble, although they work long hours their priority is that you have a good time and best of all they have one too.the studios are quite basic but clean.after all you are,nt going to skiathos to spend all your time inside.try the barbeque at nicholas at 18 euro,s each the food was delicious (THANKS ACHILLES)and lots of it,but RAMONA AND ACHILLES made the evening with their dancing and their wit (ramona has a wicked sense of humour)you can hear her laughing all over the village.the walk to town is quite nice if you walk along the beach, but at night we walked along the road, going down the hill there are a couple of greek bars where the locals drink,we called in there for a couple of drinks each night, and it was great the locals love to have a chat with you,and if you can speak a couple of greek words even better.(and lots cheaper)when you get into town the main street is lined with shops and is really quite nice,it leads down to the harbour where ther are lots of places to eat and drink, but wander around the side streets to find hidden bars they are all welcoming.we hired a scooter during the day50 euros for five days and it was great there are lots of places to see and gorgeous beaches to stop off at you can get a free map almost anywhere.lastly the food well what can i say, greek food is delicious everywhere in greece and skiathos is no exception,we loved ot all and will definitely be back.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Had a fantastic time. Our third time back on the island and first at these apartments. Particularly liked the fact we could walk into town in the evening and choose from loads of places to eat and drink. Favs included Amfleliki for fish and great views and Asthpolitis.
The beach here is not great but we always hire a scooter and take off for one the many excellent beaches on the island. Best include Mandraki and Banana. Although the tavernas on Banana beach have been spoiled for us now - prepacked plastic take away cartons for lunch instead of the usual lovely greek salads and fish we used to enjoy.
Our holiday was made extra special by Romona, Achilles and Lorenzo who looked after the apartments and the bar. Great fun and so friendly. So sad that it will be their last season there - we would have gone back. Thomsons have cut down on the number of flights and apartments so Nicholas apts will be all Scandinavian from next year.
We thought we would try somewhere else for our next greek holiday but Skiathos keeps drawing us back as it is so pretty and compact. We will see.

Overall Hotel Rating:
After a 1hr delay at Manchester Airport we did not arrive at the apartments until around 9.30 in the evening, by 9.45 we had decided we wanted to book again for next year!We were alloted the best apartment at the 'Nicholas', in fact the best apartment we have ever had,Anywhere!I wasn't going to reveal the number because then everyone would want to book this room, but it appears that Thomson are not renewing their contract next year so if you end up with room 20 then you've done ok.
It is a very spacious 1 bedroom apartment, twin beds, air con, kitchen - diner, toaster, kettle,a fridge AND a larger fridge freezer!(which of course was crying out to be filled with beer!)A large wrap around balcony with sea and pool views to the front and another with mountain views to the rear.
We found Skiathos to be a relaxed chilled out island and this is echoed at the 'Nicholas' you will be greeted by your host Ramona who will buy you a drink to settle you in.The atmosphere around the pool throughout the day is extremly relaxing with plenty of sun-beds and chilled out music played on a good sound system.Ramonas husband Achilles runs their bar in town 'Argento'but is around during the day and hosts a fantastic barbeque on sunday night.I have to mention Lorenzo here who runs the bar.Beware of his cocktails!he will make you anything you like, they are good, until the next morning! You have been warned.
Moving from the apartments to Skiathos itself, it is quite a small island which is good for getting around. The beach at megaliamos is not as bad as other people have said, if you go where the bars and tavernas are it is fine and sandy, further away it becomes more 'shingley'.There are around 60 beaches on the island some only accessible by sea, we visited a few which are very good, koukonares, big banana and little banana, which is a must, er... but you will probably feel a little less out of place if you remove all of your clothes, it was an experience!you can hire speed boats from megaliamos beach or the new port and go all around the island in a couple of hours.
The main area at night for bars, tavernas, restaurants, shops etc is papadiamatis street, a cobbled pedestrian street arond 1/2 mile long which runs down to the new and old ports here you will find a myriad of places to eat, drink, see and be seen, there is no point recommending individual places to eat, everywhere is nice and everywhere provides good food.
If you get chance go on the small ferry the 'Nicholas' (right at the far end of the old port near rock and roll bar) to skopelos and allinosos. It has an English speaking guide who is very informative, and yes we did see some dolphins. We will definately return next year but unfortuntely it won't be to the 'Nicholas' apartments,as I said, for some reason Thomson are not renewing the contract, I'm soory Thomson but you are making a huge mistake here. Thanks Ramona, Achilles and Lorenzo, oh and of course Skiathos, for a wonderful holiday x.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Skiathos. we have been to a few greek islands and think this is the most picturesque. The apartments are ideal just about 15/20 mins walk from Skiathos or 5 mins to the harbour by bus.
we can honestly say this is one of the best holidays ever made by Ramona, Lorenzo, and Achilles they are so friendly to everybody, they have a barbie on Sunday and the food is great ( Ramona is even learning to make Yorkshire Puddings )
It was a heatwave whilst we were there but the apartments have aire conditioning 5 euro per night. I am glad we booked these apartmants as they are ideally situated if you were at one of the other resorts they is not much there just a few tavernas / apaprtments most of the nightlife is in Skiathios Town lovely bars/ restaurant. we went to the Old jailhouse lovely lamb shanks and steaks also to Plakes restuarant which is hard to fine but once you do the view is out of this world th4e food is good too. ( you go passed the heakth centre to the playground anf next to this is a kiosk with a sign pointing to the restaurant dont be put off as you go round and round passed the local houses once you get there it is brillaint the view food everything.Book the boat trips from the harour they are cheaper and they use the same boats we went to Skolopes and the highlights was seeing the dolphins.
I would go to Skiathos again maybe for a week as we went 2 this time and probably would not be able to find any thing differnt to see the only dissapointment is finding out Thompson have lost out on these apartmant and scandiavians are using it next year and Ramona wont be there and her and her staff really did make the holiday ( even Nemo the dog who bark worst than his bite)but Ramona and Achiilles can be found at their bar Argento so Good luck xxxxxx
Skiathos is more for couples think it's gets to warm for cildren and apart from the beaches not anthing for children to do

This was our first trip to Skiathos and I can definitly say that it will not be the last. We had a fantastic time. The appartments are basic but very clean and more than adequate. The pool is very clean too and there are always plenty of sunbeds. The only thing I would say is that there is rather a steep hill to climb whenever you return to the appartments ('cardiac hill' as it was nicknamed by some of the other holiday makers that were staying there).
The apartments are about 10 minutes walk away form Skiathos town itself which is where all the bars and eateries are although there is a bus stop about 50 yards from the apartments - the buses are often very crowed though but you have to use them at least once fore experience!!
We found a fantastic italian restaurant called Marias on our last night - typical! It is off one of the little side streets at the bottom of Pappadiamantis street and definitly worth a visit. There are also lots of really nice fresh fish restaruants in the harbour that are worth a visit.
Our holiday was made all the more special by Sevi, the man that runs everything at the apartments from cleaning the pool to mixing fantastic coctails! He holds a barbeque every sunday evening and prepares all the food himself and makes it a great evening for all with music and dancing - Thanks Sevi and we hope to see you again soon! x
Just to let you know, the landing and take off at the airport isn't great but its not as bad as people make out and great fun to watch if you happen to be near the airport when a plane is taking off - don't get too near though!!!

Weather-
We were there for the first 2 weeks of the season (early May). The first week it was pretty cold, too cold to sunbath and at night it was freezing just like being back home! The second week changed completely it was late 20's definately sunbathing weather but the sea and pool were still really cold. The nights were still chilly too. I would pack a variety of clothing as you cant really predict what the weather will be like at that time of year.
Resort-
Megali Ammos is just outside of skiathos town about a 5-10 minute walk away. The resort itself doesnt have much to offer, a couple of mini markets and an average beach. However Skiathos is a small island ready to be explored and the beaches at the other end in koukanaries are really nice. The town has lots of shops, bars and restauarants but as we went in may they were all very quiet and alot were also not open yet. Whether thats a good or bad thing depends on the type of holiday you want I guess. A bad point about going early on in the season is that the bus that runs from one end of the island to the other runs very rarely and this will obviously limit this things you can do and explore on your holiday unless you are willing to hire car or moped.
The accomodation-
We really are not fussy people when it comes to accomodation but I personally thought it was good. The apartments were of a good size and the kitchen facilities were good enough to whip up spaghetti bolengese or shepherds pie. The cleaners came in everyday. The balconys all had a table and 2 chairs and were also a good size. The bedrooms had a TV which showed english speakin tv shows on some of the channels.
The pool area-
The pool wasnt huge but it was big enough and it was clean. There werent loads of sunbeds so that could be a problem in high season. The bar staff were nice but as usual drinks and ice creams were over priced.

first time to skiathos and we wasent dissapointed, apts spacious, and clean.no scrambling for sunbeds in a morning very relaxed great atmosphere at the poolside bar.no noise at night time which gives you a good nights sleep,2 minutes to the lovely beach at megali ammos.eating out highly recomend the ";jail house"; al a carte, superb, and the windmill, but which is quite steep to get to lots of steps, however the view at the top overlooking the harbour is quite something.recomended boat trips.the carousel brill day out ( lots of wine ) and the island hopping, both well worth the money.also go to the old mill which does food and watch the planes land and take off,you can almost touch them.the runway is very short and quite an experiance ,i wont say any more on that matter ?.
we love greece and skiathos is a great place for an holiday, peaceful and relaxing or if you go to skiathos town busy with plenty of bars and places to eat ,but not in your face.almost forgot to mention the rooftop bar ( english ( very friendly good laugh ).thanks to wendy and sevey at the nicholas apts for all the advice they gave us ,and many laughs ,and drinks that we consumed, until the early hours.on a final note my parents had never been to greece and didnt want to come home,as they enjoyed it so much.

Visited Skiathos for the first time this year but it will not be the last. A beautiful, green and largely unspoilt island. Skiathos Town is very cosmopolitan and you'd be crazy to book half or full board - there are so many tavernas to eat in.
Our apartments made the holiday. The pool bar, run by Ramona and Achilles, was excellent, friendly, welcoming and fun. Accommodation was fabulous. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment (for 2 of us) booked with no under occupancy fee through Apollo Travel but our tickets came from Thomson. However you don't go to Greece for great accommodation. You go for the great food, great people and fabulous atmosphere. You get all of that in Skiathos. Fabulous beaches reached by either the fabulous bus service or great water taxis. Megali Amos is a lovely beach with plenty of tavernas and facilities - unlike some of the other beaches. Try the Thessaloniki Taverna on the beach and watch the moon dancing over the sea - it is spectactular. Thank you again to Ramona and Achilles and how welcome you made us feel.
We will be back.
