Skiathos town is a good location for people who like a good variety of food and bars. Most of which are very good. The Lyhnari taverna is especially recommended for its good food and hospitality.The only Place to avoid food wise would be Petro`s on the old harbour, it is very expensive and the food was not very good. Skiathos town is not the sort of place for young families due to distance to beaches and also not a place for people who want a quiet place to stay as its quite a bussling noisy sort of town.This was especially so late in the day with many of the locals racing around the narrow streets on motorcycles with noisy exhausts.

The bus links to the main beaches are every 15 minutes and are an excellent way of getting around , and are cheap to use.There are also a couple of ";taxi boats"; from the old harbour direct to several good beaches.Most beaches have at least a taverna at the rear, and sun beds and parasols to hire. Some beaches go even further, with a shop, changing facilities and tiolets on them. Koukounaries beach was excellent (with very good facilities)and is the obvious choice for families with children.

As for the Alkmene studios, we had two rooms at the rear which fortunately afforded a quiet place to sleep.The rooms are of a good standard,with all the usual facilities . The only omition was the lack of safe deposit boxes. The rooms where cleaned every other day,including clean bedding.So it was a clean place to stay, If I had to pick fault They only critisism would be that the shower enclosure was very small,but no real problem ,and if you like a quiet room make sure you get one at the rear of the building.The Lyhnari Taverna was next door and was a delight to visit. As well as good food you recieve a warm welcome from the staff.

All in all an interesting island with good accomadation.

alkemene studios were very convinient for town about 3min walk at most cleaned every other day bins emptied daily and what a luxury a shower cubicle with plenty of hot water any time of day we would definately stay here again
plenty of good places to eat at best one we think asprolithes at top of papadiamantis street turn right about 5min walk away.roof top bar on the old port worth a visit views wonderful and roy and marge make everyone welcome.

Skiathos town has enough tavernas to cater for everybody and 'Lynhari' was especially good.
The thing that spoilt our holiday a little was the accomodation provided by Olympic Holidays:-
Our first room was so damp you couldn't put your clothes in the wardrobe and we had to remove every item of crockery from the sink cupboard. The showeroom door was too swollen to close and there was a shortage of eating utensils.

We were moved to another room in the same block and all our clothes were soaked on the first night, The loo took 2hrs. to fill and we had a severe leak from the water tank above. We lost the power twice and the room was only mopped once in 14 days.The bedding was also only changed once while we were there.

So... Do go to Skiathos it is beautiful but I would not recommend The ALKMENE STUDIOS!
