Having just spent a brilliant week on Skiathos we were really disappointed with these apartments. Ours, number 2, was above the boiler room, looked out onto a hillside although if you leaned over you could catch a glimpse of the sea. It was very hot, 42c in the shade some days, which we like except that our sheets were not changed once the whole week we were there.
The pool is fabulous, really clean and uncrowded, probably because the pool bar was not opened once. The nearest supermarket is a good 15 minute walk away and it's uphill on the way back.
We did a town walk with a dutch lady called Daphne, she's been there about 18 years and is married to a Greek, the walk was brilliant as Daphne has so much first hand experience of the island.
We also did the boat trip to the marine park of Alonnisos which was a shambles. Our rep picked us up at the port, took us to another resort and left us there for 45 minutes without a word about what was to happen. Eventually she returned with more holidaymakers at around the same time as the boat arrived. The boat already looked full as it had started it's trip from Skiathos, we boarded anyway. Because the trip started late we missed the walk up to the monastery. We were taken to a beach which was huge pebbles for a swim and to Patitiri the port of Alonnisos which was ok. The highlight of the trip was the Dolphins, they were brilliant.
We had dinner at a different taverna each night, all were fantastic, one of the best was the cheapest at the Owl bar.
We didn't venture far because we didn't hire a car but we did get the bus to the beach at Stafilos, allow 15 mintes to get down to the beach and a good 30 minutes to get back up! We decided to walk the 4k back to Skopelos town.
The town itself is great for wandering around you may think you know where you're going, but it's easy to get lost which is all part of the fun.
We also liked to walk around the harbour in the evening just people watching.
Skopelos is not an island we probably will not return to but it is lovely. We definitely would not return to the Evlalia they couldn't be bothered to do anything for you, not even a toilet roll!!

Skopelos is the perfect island for peace and quiet (except July and August when the Athenians flood the island) and for those who appreciate the landscape, wildlife, flowers and the gentle pace of Mediterranean living. We went to walk along the calderimis , the old donkey tracks, and see the island interior. We were not disappointed. There are beaches of mainly shingle in perfect settings (try Milia )which you can get to by the bus which runs up to Glossa, itself a delightful hilltop village at the opposite end of the island.Skopelos town is a delight with a large choice of Tavernas. Sergios,Nasos, Alexanders and Aktaion are all OK.No proper beach here though but the narrow streets are worth exploring in the cool of the evening up to the Kastro for great views over the harbour.
The Evlalia apartments are at the other end of the bay about 15 mins away so quite peaceful, although the Skopelos bar half way along the bay pumped out music till the early hours to attract customers !?! The apartments were spartan to say the least so don't expect the same inventory as self catering in Spain.Kept clean though but no aircon and limited views. Only a few in the block have nice balconies and views. We were at the back facing a brick retaining wall up to the third floor. The pool was excellent but disappointingly the bar was not open and even in season does so sparodically. No where to get a cool beer then so stock up the fridge.
A word of warning about the transfer. Your flight will come into Skiathos and from there its a one hour transfer by Jetfoil or Flying Dolphin to Skopelos. The ferry schedules do not dovetail well with flights so there is a long wait in Skiathos town at either end of the holiday. The reps get you on to the 0600 or 0715 jetfoil from Skopelos to Skiathos so there is a lot of time to kill before your flight home.
Overall then, a more friendly and Greek feel to Skopelos than Skiathos and excellent for quiet beaches and a lush green landscape replenished by many natural springs.
Apartments could have been better equipped but OK for a week if the weather is good.Could be a problem if confined in bad weather.

I have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday on Skopelos, the Evlalia appartments were on the opposite side of the bay to Skopelos town so we had approx 15 minutes stroll into town every evening, which is fine if you are just enjoying the view but, not so good if you are laden down with the important things like wine and beer on the way back to your room!
The nearest supermarket was about 10 minutes away, the last 5 minutes back to our appartment was uphill which was a killer in the heat.
That said , the appartments were lovely, in gorgeous grounds and with an immaculate pool area. (We actually didn't spend much time by the pool but the pool bar very rarely seemed to be open so make sure that you have drinks to hand.)
Skopelos had an excellent bus service along the coast between the town and Glossa but, to get the best out of your holiday I would strongly recommend hiring a car. Many of the gorgeous beaches were down very steep, winding roads quite a way from the bus stop. the swimming was absolutely wonderful in crystal clear waters, especially Milia and Kastani. ( no sunshades at Kastani but the sea was perfect ) the beaches go down steeply and are mainly pebbly so take some 'jellies' ladies, I bought some in Skopelos for 8 Euros! it was either that or hobble !
The food was delicious and very reasonable.
we had to catch a 7.30 am ferry from skopelos to skiathos which meant a wait in skiathos from 8.30 to 2.30 for our pick up for the Bristol flight, so make sure that you have money for drinks and refreshments.
just one tip - if you forget your driving licence you can ring DVLA and for £5 they will fax confirmation of your licence details to your tour operator office/ car hir firm.

not strictly skiathos I know but I had to cheat to tell you about this fabulous island. If you want a rowdy time with loads of other Brits then forget it but if you want to see how the Greeks holiday then this is for you. We were told that there were around only 200 british on the island at any one time. I cant tell you about the good parts of the holiday because youll be bored of reading them all.
Suffice to say that the appts were clean with a fabulous view of the town ,the tavernas in the town were good but the days spent at Takis and Sophies Del Sol pool bar and restaurant were idyllic. If there are nicer people in the world then ive yet to meet them. If you like relaxation on holiday then go to Skopelos . Dont say you havent been told
