"Marigoula Village Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Skopelos is an absolute gem. It is peaceful and traditionally Greek but has everything you need for a great holiday.
Favourite beaches were Milia (on the bus route but quite a hike from the main road) and Liminara (ditto). Liminara is the only sandy beach on the island. Milia is pebbly but in a stunning setting with a breeze most of the time. Panormas is the only beach which is straight by the side of the road. Agnondas is lovely but no sunbeds and its very hard lying on the pebbles. All the above mentioned have tavernas etc.
Car hire and bike hire is reasonable. We paid 80 euros for a scooter for ten days which took us to all the beaches. A jeep for a day cost 40 euros and a day is all you need really to see the rest of the island. Traffic on the roads is minimal and there are lots of ";off roading"; opportunities - ideal for discovering the beautiful monasteries and churches dotted all over the island.
Tavernas and bars are plentiful in Skopelos Town - too many to mention. Nostos taverna on the waterfront is excellent. Plenty of choice and good quality food at reasonable prices. Gyros GR in the main Platanos square was ok but expensive for what it was.
Marigoula Village is about 10 minutes walk out of town - a bit lonely after dark - no problem for couples but females on their own might find it a bit daunting. The studios themselves are lovely. Spotlessly clean and all you need. N.B. no kettles so take a travel one, and a very noisy fridge! (ear plugs helped) Free air conditioning. No safety deposit boxes but this is not a problem. I get the impression that crime doesn't exist on Skopelos.
A brilliant holiday. Would recommend Skopelos and the Marigoula to anyone.

Despite an eventful trip
- worryingly given boarding cards for Mykonos but told by Excel rep ";..it's ok, it's the same flight";
- advised of rescheduled flight time and refueling stop at Mykonos only when through customs at Manchester airport
- subsequently tannoyed, along with others, and issued with Skiathos boarding cards
- further 1:20 delay as cabin staff couldn't be located
- consequently missed Skiathos-Skopelos ferry and had a further 3 hour wait in Skiathos
...we had a very relaxing time at the Marigoula.
It was the start of the season so the place only had a few guests (English and Dutch). Just as well because there were only ever 7 sun loungers available, and a couple of those were split. This was potentially the only ";problem"; at the Marigoula.
The room we had - number 14 1st floor - overlooked the pool and was roomy enough for 2 people. The a/c was free and effective although we barely used it as it really cooled down most nights. There were a couple of mozzies about but I'd expected a lot more.
The tv has about 12 Greek channels and bbc news 24(sound only). The bathroom has a shower but no shower curtain so everything gets soaked until you get more adept.
It's a good 5 minute stroll to the nearest restaurant and supermarket of which there are plenty of both as you get nearer town.
We had 2 favourite restaurants both quiet and away from the main strip.
";Alexanders"; - walk along the front and between the ";Aktaion"; and ";Nostros"; eateries walk up the narrow road between and behind them. It's a bit of a climb but you should see small coloured wall signs for ";Alexanders";.
";Del Sol"; - on the coast road turn right away from the main town and continue past the wooden galleon. Again it's a bit of a walk but it's situated just after the ";Sea View"; apartments as the road starts to climb. It's also where Kosmar hold their BBQ nights.
The internet cafe is, out the Marigoula, turn left to the main road where the little religious shrine is, turn left again, up the road and first right as the road bends left. It was open from 10 am but not on Sunday.
As somebody has already mentioned there is a very early start back for home on the first seacat/dolphin, around 7.15 from Skopelos town harbour. This of course is subject to good weather. We had to leave via Agnondas due to high winds and a choppy sea, around 6.30 departure in this case - so be prepared!! There is then a long wait in Skiathos for the airport transfer - 13.30 approx for a 15.20 flight.
Don't look forward to sitting on a sandy beach as they're all shingle and slightly neglected in May. Loutraki is worth a bus trip for around E3.20 single fare - don't get off in Glossa if you want to see the port area as its a vertical climb down the road!!
All in all a great relaxing holiday! Enjoy!

Marigoula village apartments are lovely. They are typically Greek - basic but very clean. Each apartment has free air conditioning which was a godsend at night!there is a pool onsite which was clean apart from the wasps!
There were plenty of sun loungers although some of them had a couple of broken slats so you had to make a dash for the unbroken ones! The apartments are used by English,Dutch and Greeks. It is really quiet so sleep was undisturbed by people coming home late!
The Marigoula villge is a gentle walk of about 10 minutes (it might be less because we didn't really take much notice of how long it took us!)into Skopelos Town/Harbour front. There lots of tavernas to choose from all reasonably priced.A typical meal consisting of 3starters,3main meals,2 cokes and a large water was approximately 35 Euros. There are plenty of shops to browse for souveniers, some tacky some classy. The cobbled narrow streets are very quaint but very steep but are well worth seeing.
The only downside we found was on the last day. We had to catch the hydrofoil at 6am back to Skiathos and then had to wait until 2.45pm to be picked up and taken to the airport. We found Skiathos Town not as friendly as their neighbours at Skopelos and felt we were an inconveinience to the locals. We thought that we could've caught a later ferry/hydrofoil and enjoyed the end of our holiday a lot better.Other than that I would definately go back to Skopelos.

Skopelos is a beautiful island, relitavely unspoilt by mass tourism. There is lots to do including many interesting walks, lots of varied wildlife. We found the best place to eat in Skopelos town was Stergios Restaurant, the food was excellent, the prices good, and Stergio was a wonderful host, a real gentleman. His wife Aspa did all the cooking, and we enjoyed all our meals there. If you are looking for a peacful tranquil holiday, Greece as it used to be before mass tourism, then this is the island for you
