This is our 6th year in a row to La Luna. We love the place mainly due to the fact that Dimitris and Stavrula are such fantastic hosts. It marked the end of an era as it is indeed their last year there and our last day was very sad. However we will be keeping in contact with them and hope to visit them at their next place. Skiathos was much quieter this year which was lovely and we never tire of the scenery and beaches (particularly in the north of the island). We will return to Skiathos in the future but La Luna will not be the same without Dimitris, Stavrula, Mariella and Arthur. We wish them all the best for their future plans. Justyne and Mark

OverallVery Good Resort

The cost of Skiathos is quite high now - especially as the pound is much weaker against the euro. Small supermarkets do charge more now - you are better off going to the biggest supermarket "Champion" in Skiathos town, which is much cheaper.

Any one recently out there that has any news please leave message as it would not be the same without them and I think I speak for many people

We have just got back from two weeks at the La Luna and had a nice time. The rooms are spacious and the view from the balcony was stunning. All the rooms have sea views. The pool was nice but both my kids cut their feet on lose tiles in the pool. The pool bar was nice but could do with serving food later into the evening as it is a long walk into the village(if you can call it that).

Evenings at the bar, after dodging the traffic and climbing all the steps from the road, was brill, Demitris and Rula are lovely, make you feel very welcome and are great to talk to. The drinks here are more expensive than in the tavernas but it is worth it for the atmosphere. They will stay open as long as you want to drink.

Sunday night is BBQ night, it makes a nice change for a night, it gets you talking to others who are staying there but I think it is quite expensive for what it is and there no variation from one BBQ night to the one the following week. They put on greek salad, tzakie, chunks of chicken, sausages and the biggest pork chops you will ever see, for 15E each no matter how much or little you eat, you do get a lot more choice, better quality food for a lot less money at the tavernas but you don't have the walk so it does have its attraction.

The only down side to staying here is the cleaners, who didn't seem to do much cleaning, just empty rubbish bags, and its location. The rooms had not been cleaned properly before we got there, the layer of dust on the stairs and under the dressing tables was amazing. Like I said before the views are spectacular but everything is up hill, very steep hills, even to go to the loo from the pool is up hill.

To walk into Troulos is about half a mile along the main road that has no pavements and has very craggy edges which you will have to walk in as the greek drivers are MAD. The road is also very badly lit. Once you have made it into Troulos you will find that you have wasted your time. Troulos consists of 6 or 7 tavernas, 2 or 3 supermarkets and 2 car hire places and that is it, all set along the road which is the only main road on the island and runs from Skiathos town to Koukanaris. The Nectar and ambrosia is a great place to eat, the waitress's are dressed in togas and you eat and drink from clay crockery, the food in there is lovely, definetley the best place to eat in the village. We also ate in the Italian, Casa del Pasta, cheesy name but nice food and the owner throws free booze at you from the moment you sit down, needless to say we went there 3 times.

After a few days of thinking ";how are we going to cope here for 2 weeks"; we did some exploring, then the holiday started to pick up. We walked to Koukanaris, it has a lovely beach, long and sandy but it gets very very busy, the village is very similar to Troulos. We went there a few times in the evening to eat to a place called the Village, the food there is lovely and the waiters are very nice, they remembered us each time we went back. Demitris recommended it to us. Don't eat in a place called Zorbas in Troulos, it is horrendous.

We got the bus into Skiathos town, once you are into the centre it is beautiful. It has two harbours, old and new and one main shopping street, papadiamantis street, it is very busy but absolutley beautiful, great at night, the place is absolutley buzzing. The buses get very busy, the drivers let them get dangerously over crowded to the point that people are sat in the door spaces and are squashed against the windscreen but the taxis are great, if you forgive their driving skills, from town to the apartments is 10E and well worth it. You can ask Demitris to order you a taxi and then you can arrange with the driver to pick you up again later, so easy, not worth the hassle on the buses.

While we were there, there some huge yachts in the harbour, millions of pounds worth.

We went up to the working monastry in the hills behind Skiathos town, very steep hills, rocky roads with steep drops to one side but stunning views. Well worth a visit, very peaceful.

I know I have done a lot of moaning but once we adjusted to there being nothing much to do we did have a nice time but we won't be going back, it is a shame you can't pick up La Luna, Demtiris and Rula and transport them somewhere more fitting of their quality, Lindos possibly.

This was our first holiday to Skiathos.

We went with our friends so in total there were 8 of us. The apartments were a duplex style masionette, there were 2 divan single beds downstairs with bathroom, small kitchette and upstairs was a double bed and ensuite. Fantastic views over Troulos beach from the balcony. The only critisim was that the apartments didnt seem to be cleaned very often. Towels and bedding changed once a week.

The manager Dimitris and his wife Rula were fantastic hosts and made you feel welcomed. The bar was open at night which was good as there wasnt much to do in Troulos and he stayed open for as long as there were people there. On Sunday night there is a BBQ night for 15 euros adults and 7.50 for kids aged upto 10yrs. There were a few tavenas and we found the Necter Ambrovisa brill also the Casa di Pasta were the owner gives loads of free booze.

In Koukounaries we found The Village. If you like to browse round the shops there arent any in Troulos, only supermarkets. Its a good 15-20min walk into Troulos to the resturants. Troulos beach is nice and quiet its the cleanest beach on the island. Koukounaries beach is nice too and a 20 min walk. The buses are great if you like to be squeezed like a sardine. Cheap too.

Skiathos town is nice full of shops and restuarents and big boats. Try Portobellos for lunch the sandwiches are great and if you have kids they can share one they are that big. We also went to a resturant called The Wind, this was recommeded by Dimitris, it was fab we ate on the rooftop over looking the old harbour. We went for a meal at The Windmill but walked out after finding out they didnt do childrens menus and that the main courses started at 25 euros. They have some nice shops too in Skiathos town, on the bus it cost us 4.50euros, in a taxi it was 12 euros. The buses get really packed in the afternoon coming back from Skiathos going to Koukounaries beach. Going to Skiathos town at night on the bus was just as bad. The food at the apartments pool were really nice.

Overall its very much a pool and beach holiday total rest and do nothing, if we went back i would only go back for a week. Overall we enjoyed this holiday, but the resort needs some more shops. In the winter Troulos shuts down completely and there are only about 50 residents.

Had a lovley time at La Luna rooms cleaned every day, regular towel changes, Dimitri and Rula where lovely, we had a maisonette style room, two singles downstairs and bathroom and plenty of space and balcony and then wooden steps to uptairs with double bed and bathroom air con in both rooms but very nice rooms. Basic self catering equipment Toaster, kettle etc so can make breakfast or light lunch but food at pool bar good, but it doesn't open till about 10:30,pool area was nice and not 'a towel on your beds a dawn' kind of place but very near beach anyway, down a steep track though, but only a 2/3 min walk so if you can't get a bed at the pool plenty of room on the beach, the beach was lovely in a nice bay clean and not to busy, some watersports from the beach. The view fron the room and the pool area was spectacular.

Quiet resort, restaurants and supermartket about 5min walk away down hill, but food fine wherever we ate for 4 of us prices where about 40 euros at the restaurants on the beach but most other places where about 80 to 85 but that was starters, wine drinks etc. We went to Skiathos town a couple of times about 20 mins away, has a cosmoplitan feel, busy and lots of shops bars restaurents etc, easier to get taxi in, about 10 euros, and bus back, about 1.50 euros, the buses are very busy going into skiatios town. Got bus to Koukanaris had a couple of nights out there which is next town along, again quiet only about half a doz restaruants/tavernas but was busier that troulos about 10 mins on the bus which is quieter going away from Skiathios town. Bus runs from 8am to 1am and run every 20 mins. Enough restaurants that we went to a different one every night which is what we like.

I wanted two weeks on my lounger reading books and listening to music, low key nightlife centered around eating out and thats exactly what I got and if thats what you are looking for I would happily recommend La Luna and Troulos bay.
