Lovely accomodation with great views to Skiathos town. The only downside was the hill you have to walk up to reach it,however for an extra couple of ? the taxi will take you to the door.Small and friendly place, nice couple george and maria very helpful and our rep was just great, very knowledgable having lived on the island for many years.Good place for a relaxing holiday.Skiathos town have great bars and restaurants, try some of the bars along past the old windmill, very ibiza like. The steps bar does great cocktails, all the restaurants were above average and me being a chef not always easy to please couldn´t fault them.Recommend this island to anyone looking for a nice relaxing time in a beautiful setting. The trip to evia island with victoria the swedish guide was great ,a mine of information and a lovely lush green island.

Cant wait to return.

Villa Melia is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday, the views from most of the rooms, the pool and bar area are simply spectacular and were a big plus for our holiday. The villa is situated about 200 metres up a pretty steep slope but the views are well worth the effort. The rooms are quite large and you would be unlucky if you did not have a sea view (rooms 11and12 have the best views) The villa is owned by an older couple (George is a retired school teacher who taught in Skaithos town) They keep the villa and the gardens to a very high standard and are justifiably proud of their property. If you are not too keen on cats and dogs that could be a problem, there are cats everywhere and the owners have a lovely old dog called Daisy who is very laid back. There is a terrace, bar area and pool below the villa surrounded by gardens and the view to neighbouring islands and Skaiathos town, which is about 3k away.

There is a beach at Vassillias, it is narrow, sandy and pretty quiet with shade in the afternoon, at the far and of the beach there is a taverna. We hired a scooter for the week and it is a good way of getting around, especially up and down the main road. We did venture up some other gravel roads to the north of the island but if you do those on 2 wheels you have to take it VERY carefully. The beaches were not crowded at all in June.

Mostly we ate out in Skaithos Town where there are endless places to eat, we just picked places we liked the look of and never had a bad meal the whole week. Prices for 2 with a couple of beers a jug of house wine and say a souvlaki and a greek salad was about 30 euros - not bad so long as you don't compare with the pre euro days.

Skiathos is a lovely island very pretty and very small, there are some lovely walks too. Skiathos town is the only place where there are any proper shops, the other 'resorts' are just beaches with supermarkets and tavernas. So all in all if you want a week to chill out are not that interested in shopping or visiting 'sights' this is a good place to go.

Vassilias is about 10 minutes drive from the tiny airport at Skiathos. There is one main road that runs the length of the island and this area is around bus stops 6/7. It is sort of an 'inbetween' area in that there are only a couple of tavernas within walking distance, but this also adds to the quietness of the place. There are also a couple of supermarkets about ten minutes from the villa and a long narrow beach over the main road.

The villa itself is set about 150 metres up a very steep hill. It is so steep in fact that we had a regular 'breathing point' about half way up from where we could admire the view out across the sea and take a few puffs on the inhaler! In all seriousness, the hill isn't too bad and it's good to walk off the the icecreams etc.

Once you do get to the top of the hill the view is absolutely beautiful. There is a lovely pool from which you can look right aross the sea, to other isalnds and over to Skiathos town.

The rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean. We hired a fan, as there is no air conditioning, which really helped. This was the first holiday in Greece where rooms and bedding were cleaned/changed every day. The owners, an older Greek couple, were also really sweet and welcoming. They had obviously thought about the layout of villa rooms and the gardens were beautifully landscaped - sweet smelling jasmine, orange trees, grape vines and of course olive trees were dotted all over the gardens. The rooms have balconies overlooking the sea and olive groves.

There is also a pool bar that sells beer, water, and snacks at reasonable prices which is very convenient, but means that you have absolutely no reason to leave the villa for the entire duration of your holiday. You could be incredibly lazy if you wanted to!It was also a great relief to find that although there was a pool bar there was no 'Brits abroad' culutre and it shut at 8pm. This meant quiet evenings could be enjoyed on your balcony or sat by the pool, which also shut at 8pm.

There are some lovely beaches in Skiathos and the bus stops at most of them. It costs 1 euro 20 to travel the length of the island on the bus and taxis for the equivalent trip cost about 5 euros. We particularly liked Nostos beach (bus stop 12) because it was quiet, clean and the water was very clear.

Skiathos town has the usual tourist shops and most of the restaurants and bars are centred here. The harbour is a nice place to walk along in the evening and there are some lovely cobbled streets in the old part of town.

We had a really great time in Skiathos. If you are after a quiet, relaxed, beach or pool holiday I would definitely recommend it. A lovely place with friendly people - what more could you ask for?

Comfortable and clean appartments, helpful staff, excellent location and pleasant, reasonably priced poolside bar/restaurant all go to making this a good choice of holiday.

Well located for a bus or taxi to explore the south coast of the island. My only observations which might be of help are:
- there are a lot of steep hills and stairs here. e.g. you cannot reach the poolside or bar without negotiating stairs, so the disabled may find this difficult.
-the pillows are like bags of boulders. Bring your own.
- there is no air conditioning and a fan will cost you £10 (14 euros) a week to hire, which is a little mean.
- the catering facilities are basic - no grill, microwave etc. just two very slow electric hotplates (one is only 2";) and a sink and fridge. Eat out!
All in all a good holiday, although had I paid the full brochure price I might have expected more mod-cons and nicer decor.
The pool was not overcrowded, but it was at capacity (there is limited space for sunbeds around the pool) and there appears to be more appartments partly built nearby so maybe next year it will be busier.
