Plenty of taverna's and restaurants to choose from. however very busy in the 1st 2 weeks in August when we visited as all the Greeks come to Thassos for their hols. pop into the English bar opposite the fair on the harbour front, the owners are great.

This was our first visit to Thassos and i would highly recommend these studios to stay, the location was excellent approx 10 -15 minute slow walk to the old harbour. Most of the other people staying here were annual returners and i guess they will continue to be. i will definately return to Thassos in the near future and the Fotini would be my first choice. The studio was small, but has to be the cleanest i have stayed at, the pool area small but most days was deserted and so had the pool to ourselves. The gardens are beautiful and kept clean at all times. The owner (Vula)sorry this may not be correct as i can't remember her name was lovely, informative and loved to practice her english with you. i would highly recommend staying here.

We used the buses to get around and found them easy & reliable. Tickets can be bought on the buses except for trips from the bus station in town. Single or return are available & inexpensive. For tavernas we visited Mousses, Thassian, Doukas, Zorbas & Pygis. They were all good. Mousses is only down the road & their bread is very nice as are their pizzas. We found them quietly efficient. Thassian was livelier & their moussaka took top prize. On our last day we booked a mountain safari trip with Stavros. We can highly recommend this trip which is not offered by Thomsons as the jeeps are soft top. The trip lasted a full day & included a nice barbecued lunch in the hills. We saw Kastro, the waterfall, the lake at Maries & drove to the top of Mt Yspario. See www.thassosoffroad.gr if you are interested & take down his details. We only discovered his excursions by chance. We visited the Monday market at Prinos which was not as good as we had thought & basically only serves the local people. The villages of Panagia & Potamia are easily reached by bus. Panagia had more to see, Potamia is very quiet. Theologos can also be reached by bus & is worth a visit. Of the bays & beaches Pachis just north of Skala Rachoni is nice. The bus stops only steps away from the beach and there is shade under the trees. Paradise Beach is a must, but it is exposed to the sun and wind there. Aliki is a delightful seaside hamlet with a lovely bay. Altogether it is a lovely island. We had no problems with wasps during our stay.

We stayed at Thetis for a week in mid September 2008, booked through Thomsons. The transfer from Kavala was well organised and quick. The apartments are less than 10 mins walk inland from the new harbour which is the western end of the town. Our studio was basic as expected but clean. Our balcony overlooked the pool with views of the hills to the east beyond. There was some traffic noise from scooters and lorries as the apartments are set back only 50m from a dual carriageway which connects to the port, but we were out most of the day and it was quiet at night.

Not a lot to do in Thassos town if the sun doesn't shine, and it didn't for 4 out of 7 days. The food in local restaurants was very good, though the same dish in different ones contained different ingredients. Pigis was probably the best one we ate in. The couple who run Rumours bar were very friendly and its a great place to stop on the way back to the appartments. For the sports fan all of the important games are on there, and the beer prices reasonable. We hired a car for two days to try and escape the clouds in Thassos town and were rewarded with some great beaches around the island. The island itself is only approx 110 Kms all round so its do-able in 2-3 hours.

This was our first time in Greece and although people impressed upon us the fact that the standard of accommodation is basic it was still a bit of a shock. The facilities in the room were just about adequate, I can't imagine you could self cater in there, though the local restaurants were cheap enough to eat out every night. The twin beds were very hard and our appartment was probably one of the smaller ones with a balcony view of an unfinished extension on one of the locals houses. The shower facilities were adequate at best, the shower curtain different. That said the standard of cleanliness was excellent and the maids were in 6 out of 7 days. The owner was very helpful when needed.
potos has a good beach if you eat at the boomerang restaurant they let you use there sunbeds free. also has some good shops and restaurants

We were expecting the resort not to be built up at all from the write up in Thompson's brochure so we were a little disappointed to start with. However, the beach was great and the sea fab to swim in and you got some great waves. The sub beds (2) and umberella were 5 euros a day and a doughnut man came along the beach twice a day selling delicious doughnuts at 1.5 euro. This resort is great for families and lots of greek people holiday here. There is a little fun fair and a train that takes tourits from Golden Beach to the other end of Skala Potima. We hired a car for the day and seen the whole island. Skala Marion was unspoilt and fab. Pagnia and Potima are worth a visit although I would go late afternoon to evening to avoid the hoards of tourits. In Pagnia we eat in the restaurant oppositie the fountains, had the best greek salad ever and tried all the spit roasted meats they had on offer. This was not advertised but when we asked they were happy to oblige. We had greek salad, meat platter (large) bread and two drinks and it came to 26 euro. The best place to eat in Skala Potima for us was Krambousa. This is run by brothers who are honest about their memu if you are unsure of what to have. You get a large free oozo at the start of your meal and there is a nice greek atmosphere. We never had a bad meal in there, the local fish and the mezes were brill.
If you go the only village market ran on Monday's be careful where you park. Us and many more tourits received a 80 euro fine which went down to 40 euros if you paid within 7 days. It felt like "lets get some quick cash off the tourits". There are no signs anywhere to say you can't park there. The rule, which we were not aware of and not told about from our car rental place, was you cannot park within 3 meters either side of the double white lines in the middle of the road. The places where the tickets were issued to tourits you could not see the white lines at all in some places.

If you stuck to local drinks they were a lot cheaper, however if you wanted a gin and tonic it was 4 euros and sometimes I could hardly taste the gin. Not in Cafe THOMAI Bistro which is at the far end of Skala Potima. Ran by a greek family who live on the island you can be assured of a really warm greek welcome. Vasilis and his wife Yiota run the bistro, the coffee, snacks and drinks are very good. The gin and tonic was a very good measure and I knew I was having a gin and tonic. The pancakes were excellent as is Yiota. She has a great memory, remember you from your first visit to the bar and will remember what you talked about and her warm welcome reinforced why we holiday in Greece.

The local beach was excellent. Hire a car for a couple of days and explore the coastline and mountain villages - they are brilliant. Our favourite restaurant was the Thassian near the new harbour - great choice, brilliant food and the nicest staff you could meet. Our favourite walk was up to the acropolis via the ampetheatre and medieval fort - bit of a climb but well worth the effort. Plenty of archiology if thats your thing. Overall a great little Greek island not over commercial - an absolute joy.

We stayed at the Nicoletta Studios, they were furnished to a very high standard and the fixtures and fittings were first class. The studios are set in beautiful gardens and overall it was a great place to stay. The 20min walk into town was most enjoyable taken at a leisurely 'Greek' pace.

This is a fabulous island were the poeple are very friendly, we have made lots of friends over the years, and cant wait to visit again next may 2009.

Having stay at antigones for many years i felt i had to write this review to say that the apartments are clean and spacious and you are treated as a member of antigones family, having read some of the reviews i feel that people love to exaggerate, the rooms are cleaned everyday and beds changed 3 times a week, the rooms are not shabby but well looked after by hercules who is antigones husband. the pool is always of a high standed and very clean, the sun bed are clean too, nothing is to much trouble, i would definitly reccomend these apartments and i will be returning again next year and many more to come.

Glykadi is really a dot on the map, the hotel and the beach are the only things there. You really need to go into Thassos town for shopping, restaurants and bars etc. Thassos Restaurants were all good - menus very similar in all. Excellent were Simis, Zorbas, Pigi's and Mythos. Some people at the hotel hired a car - Thompson very expensive, search for deals in the town, much cheaper rates if you go for Thursday onwards. Buses are good too and you can get to most places, the bus round the island is good just for seeing the other beaches and resorts. The island is beautiful and well worth the effort to either drive or take a bus to see. A lovely place if you are looking for a quiet time - avoid August Bank holiday if you don't like crowds, this is the busiest time on Thassos as it is also an important Greek festival.
This was a superb relaxing, get away from it all holiday. The hote
