Glykadi is really a dot on the map, the hotel and the beach are the only things there. You really need to go into Thassos town for shopping, restaurants and bars etc. Thassos Restaurants were all good - menus very similar in all. Excellent were Simis, Zorbas, Pigi's and Mythos. Some people at the hotel hired a car - Thompson very expensive, search for deals in the town, much cheaper rates if you go for Thursday onwards. Buses are good too and you can get to most places, the bus round the island is good just for seeing the other beaches and resorts. The island is beautiful and well worth the effort to either drive or take a bus to see. A lovely place if you are looking for a quiet time - avoid August Bank holiday if you don't like crowds, this is the busiest time on Thassos as it is also an important Greek festival.

This was a superb relaxing, get away from it all holiday. The hotel was lovely, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful and food if you wanted it very reasonable. This is a hotel for those wanting something quiet. There were some children there during the second week but this is not really a place geared up for young children e.g., no kids clubs, playzones etc. Most guests were couples or families with older teenagers. The free bus into Thassos town in the evening really made it for us as we were able to go out every evening. If you don't want to sit round the pool the beaches across the road, one with a taverna, were beautiful and clean and on the taverna beach, free sunbeds and toilet facilities. If you are looking for something traditionally Greek that hasn't been spoiled by hordes of travellers wanting british bars, macdonalds etc, this is the place. The only down side - watch out for the bees. Thassos is famous for its honey and there are lots and lots of bees. You get used to them after a while but it is easy to get stung! Thompson trips were a bit expensive but we went on the Macedonia experience which was very interesting but very hot. Early or later in the year would be more comfortable. If you want a boat trip try the one opposite Simi's restaurant in Thassos.

Thassos has everything for everyone for all age groups. An ideal place for the family get away or a great trip with friends. The town has all you need from shops, cafes, bar and restaurants. Along with some good clubs that stay open to almost sunrise! The rest of the island also has a lot more than beaches to see, with great views and history. A must has to be the Thassian Restaurant in Thassos town – with the lovely staff and free coffee and cake...what else could you ask for!
