The Aphroditi Studios were in a nice central location only 200 metres from the glorious sandy beach. The mini market and a good selection of tavernas were close by. The rooms are a reasonable and simply furnished and they were cleaned regularly. There was also television lounge if you wanted to use it. We found the transfer to Golden Beach rather a chore and it took the best part of 3 hours from boarding the coach on the mainland at Kavala. You then had to take a 45 minute ferry journey and we waited 30 minutes for the ferry to arrive and finally another coach transfer to the resort.

Golden beach has white sands and shelves gently into to the sea and is beautiful. However we were plagued by wasps during our visit and we found this aspect a little unpleasant, especially as we were stung several times. This is reason we marked our holiday as only average. We understand this been an increasing problem over the past few years and would be the main reason for us not returning. You can get a bus into Thassos town 6 times a day and it is well worth doing especially if you want any gifts to take home.

Very much a couples resort although being school holiday times sometimes there was an abundance of Greek children on the beach. They disappeared in the evening.

We found the Aphroditi studios excellent accomadation very clean, maid service 6 days a week towels and sheets were changed twice a week.

The owner Costas is a very pleasant man although he does not speak much english but he understands more than he can speak. The only thing that we personally missed was that there wasnt a toaster in the studio, but it did have an electric kettle and fridge. The cutlery and crockery was adequate for snacks but as we dont do any cooking it didnt matter to us.

The beach is lovely and the sea very clean, there were places around the town that had swimming pools if you wanted them. There were plenty of good resturants all within 5 to 15 mins walk, we found Federa and Playa D Ora(the fish resturant) were the ones we used the most but we didnt have a bad meal anywhere. The bus service was very good and cheap into Thassos town or you can go to town and catch another bus that takes you right round the island. We hired a car for 4 days but found we didnt really need it for 4 days 2 would have been ample as the island isnt that big. There were some lovely places we visited also some lovely beaches. Panagia village is well worth a visit but you can go there on the town bus.

All in all we had a wonderful holiday only one thing to say now is dont go after the first 2 weeks of September as the season starts to close down during the last 2 weeks.

We have just returned from the most relaxing two weeks holiday we have ever had.
Golden Beach is a pretty resort with a beautiful beach and green mountain backdrop, although there is some building work going on its not intrusive. we were right opposite the camp site and there was no noise at night in fact walking past it to go for a meal gave us an appitite smelling their food cooking!

There is only a handfull of taverners and bars, and we tried most of them,Finikas is one of our favorites the service and the food was always exellent,(situated by the camp site) Fedras served good food but when it was busy you could wait ages for the meal and heres a tip if you dont want to be there all night ask for your bill when they serve your last course!.

After our meal we would go to Neenans Irish Bar, Mick serves a really good cold pint of Guiness and on alternant nights sings and plays guitar (he`s really quite good!)we found this to be a great way to wind the day up and its a friendly place where we met some great fellow Holiday makers, and had a good laugh (sometimes till the early hours!)The aphroditi studios all have a sea view and air con which was worth every euro (30 a week) they were spotlessly clean and maid service was 6 days a week, loads of storage but the usual no shower curtain!but we felt instantly comforable. The family that ran it were lovely and We loved it. The thomson tour of the island was disapointing i dont recomend it take the bus its cheap and you can get on and off when you like unlike this tour which was mainly on. we will be going back next year LOVED IT!

Just come back from a couple of (almost)sun filled weeks in Golden Beach.
Our accomodation was fine and perfectly positioned for the beach and was only a short stroll from the town (if you can call it that). It was very quiet all day and all night which suited us fine.
I was a bit concerned about the campsite just around the corner, which seemed to attract large families and groups of foreign teenagers but was fairly self contained, and did'nt cause any problems - the only one being fat men in small trunks strolling around the mini market.

We made a mistake of staying in the resort the whole of the first week, so we went on a round the island trip and hired a car in the second. Did'nt manage to see it all - Paradise beach was lovely, despite being packed - good snorkelling by the rocks at each end (watch out for nudists). We parked at the top and walked down, as we were advised about the roughness of the track, but many cars similar to ours made it down. Whether they made it up without being towed I don't know. Aliki was pretty spectacular as well, particularly at sunset with the ruins etc. The village of Panagia was very pretty as well - take empty bottles with you and fill up from the springs which are all over the town.

Spent a while in Thassos town as well - which seemed okay - lots of touristy shops. Had a hike up to the ampitheatre, which was not open and seems to be being rebuilt. Its not particularly well signposted, and the walk up there will not be suitable for the infirm or unfit.
Got ripped off in a restaurant in Thassos town by the old harbour. Cannot remember the name of it but its just set back from the road on a corner. He talked me into having some fish which actually cost about 20 euros, Good job we did'nt have much else.

Eating out in Golden Beach was okay. Service and everything was fine (don't bother ordering a dessert - you get given one everywhere), the only thing that bothered me was a lack of authentic Greek food - it was all fairly straight forward stuff, and even the lamb dishes were fairly plain.Someting cooked over coals would have been nice. Saying that, we did'nt have a bad experience at all.

Golden Beach is great for a very relaxing holiday. The beach is gorgeous - its much quieter beyond the campsite and between Potomia - two sunbeds and a parasol is 5 euros a day. It gets very quiet at times, although if you want a lateish drink try the Golden sands bar next to Fedra. We had a couple of pretty cloudy days which may be due to the spectacular moutains that surround the resort, but when it was sunny it was really hot.

Thats enough from me, hope you find it of use.

We booked a late deal to Thassos only knowing our resort 'Golden Beach'the best beach on the island. We also knew that there was a short ferry crossing which we found was a lovely start to our holiday.

On arrival at the airport the rep informed us that our accomodation was the Aphrodite appartments and they are absoulutely lovely. They are quite new, spotlessly clean, the owners are very nice and friendly. The appartments are situated just off the main road along a dirt track making it very very quiet and only a few minutes walk to the beautiful sandy beach. There are several friendly bars and restaurants in the resort catering for all tastes. We ate in most of the restaurants and did not have a bad meal or poor service.

The highlight for us was Thassos town only a short taxi ride away costing 10 euros each way.The streets are narrow with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. We sat at a small bar in the harbour and watched the sunset over a cool beer, heaven!Unfortunately i can't remember the names of the restaurants because we ate in a different one every night, all i would say to you is visit the ones which are busy and the menu is varied. We will definately go back to this resort and next time for two weeks. By the way the brochure price was just over £400p.p. for one week, we paid £220 each! so shop around. This was a gamble not knowing our accomodation but it was well worth it in the end.
