we went to thassos at the beginning of the season.the weather wasnt great but that made us do things we wouldnt normally do on holiday (walk, explore and hire quad bikes}instead of laying on a sunbed all day.Thassos is a beautiful island with fantastic views and wonderful people.we found nikki and her family in the blue bay hotel great and could not do enough to please, ask to rent a fridge in your room if you want one, nikki even used to take us down to the resort to save us walking, even though the walk isnt as bad as we thought.we never had a bad meal whilst there, the fedra is great value as most of the others.we cant wait to go back,we loved it and the blue bay has the best views of the island.

Blue Bay is in a fantastic location, with views over Golden Beach and it's surrounding mountains! Probably the best view in Golden Beach resort.

It's a 20 minute walk to Golden Beach from the accomodation, so not too good for the less mobile. The tavernas and shops are situated in Golden Beach, so it's a 20 minute walk to all amenities, and at night the walk back can be dark.

The hotel itself isn't really a hotel, more like an appartment but with no kitchenette facilities. Not having a fridge was really disappointing, particularly to store cold water and beer.

Breakfast is served by the owners, who aren't over friendly but OK. It isn't a typical buffet style breakfast but either cereal and toast one day, or canned fruit and toast the next, and if you're lucky scrabbled egg (twice a week). Really quite poor.

The rooms are cleaned every day, although when we first arrived there were hairs left in our shower, not too pleasant.

The price we paid for Blue Bay is for the view and not for the amenities or breakfast provided.

To reach the resort of Golden Beach it takes two coaches journeys and a ferry crossing. The transfer time was in excess of 3 hours.

The Bay Hotel is situated at the far Eastern end of the resort is up a long hill and is somewhere between a gradual and steep climb. In the heat of the day it really was a struggle and put us off. The rooms were alright and they gave you the usual standard equipment. Quite honestly they were nothing to write home about and the location for us was far from ideal. To be fair there were some wonderful views from the hotel due to its elevated position in the resort.

The beach was nice but quite crowded down our end of the resort. However if you were prepared to walk about a mile you could find a quiet section of the beach. The tavernas were mixed Sotis being our favourite and Federas the worse. Also Vigilis put on live entertainment over the weekend and was certainly worth a visit. A minimum number of shops and a bus route which ran infrequently to Thassos Town 6 times a day.

Our overall impression of our holiday was fair. It may have been different if we had other accommodation in the flatter part and middle part of the resort. One of point that put us off was the incredible number of wasps who seemed intent on landing on your food whilst you were eating. Between us we got stung 3 times.

This was our first visit to the Island of Thassos and the resort of Golden Beach so we were a little unsure of what to expect.

We went in the latter part of May and arrived in the middle of a heat wave (30 degrees +!) although this is very unusual. After the first 3 days, we had one day of cloud then a couple of 'normal weather' days for May (mid-late 20's).

When we arrived in Golden Beach we were shocked to be told that we would have to get a taxi up to the Hotel as it was too steep for the coach to drive up. The taxi ride felt like a long, steep journey but it honestly isn't as bad as it first seems. When we first arrived at the hotel it felt like the beach was miles away but it only took us 10mins to walk down. We found the walk very pleasant however for the less mobile there are a few sttep bits.

The view from the hotel is breathtaking and is no doubt the best view in the resort. We found the hotel clean and the room kept fairly cool.

The beach is bautiful and at this time of year it was very quiet so you could pretty much pick your spot.

The resort only has around 5/6 tavenas and a couple of bars so is not high on nightlife but if you want a relaxing holiday Golden Beach is perfect. Although we didn't wnat a bustling resort, Golden Beach (in May anyway) was extremely quiet. For a couple of nights we were the only couple sitting in the bars!

We hired a car for 3 days which was great fun and gave us tme to explore the rest of the island. There is only really 1 road that goes all the way round the island which made it much easier considering it was our first time driving abroad. ALIKI was a great spot as was the beach just outside of Thassos town (cant remeber the exact name........MAKRYMANOS or something!). We enjoyed stopping off at LIMINERIA and POTOS, 2 more livelier resorts but still retaining a relaxed atmpshphere.

The walk form the hotel to Skala Potamias took us about 40 mins. Skala Potamias has a few more tavernas and bars than Golden Beach but we didn't find it that great. We did enjoy our trip to Erics Pool Bar though!

Thassos is a beautiful island and Golden Beach along with the Hotel Blue Bay is a great place for a quiet, relaxing break.

This was our fist visit to Thassos and we were very impressed.A lovly un-spoilt island with very friendly locals. Not once did we feel ripped off or un-welcome.
The beach is further than what the brochure stated from the hotel, and sunbeds and Brollys very reasonabley priced.

The island is ideal for a chill out holiday, wine, dine and relax.
The hotel is on top of a very steep hill and you will need a car of scooter if not fully able bodied.

On the down side whilst we were there there was a huge problem with swarms of wasps and a few people were stung so take your antiseptic cream. We also left a ring in the safe which we are still waiting to be returned 5 months on, so check all your belongs in the safe before departing.

I hope this island stays as it is,and would be very happy to return.

Blue bay hotel is a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are basic but very clean and staff are very friendly. The view from your balcony is gorgeous and well worth the walk (hotel is at the top of a hill about 10 mins walk). The resort is very quiet and only a handful of restaurants - a bit too quiet really and could get a bit boring if you were here for more than a week. The beach is lovely but not much choice in watersports. Great place to stay if you want a typically greek, relaxing, quiet place to stay. Hope it stays like that.

We stayed at the Blue Bay Hotel between 9 and 16 May 2004. The hotel is situated in an olive grove at one end of a beautifull horse shoe shaped bay with the small resort of golden bay at one end and Skala Potamias at the other. The hotel is in an elevated position and has the best view of the bay. The hotel is at the end of a tarmac and concrete surfaced lane that is mostly lit by street lights at night. The lane is generaly easy to walk along but there are a couple of steepish short sections but certainly well worth the effort.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and very well maintained and the rooms are air conditioned (not mentioned in the Thomson brochure) at a supplement. There are plenty of good tavernas at Golden beach our favorite was the Fedra where we ate five times, we had wine, beers, main coures with side orders of salads, chips and sweets and never did it cost more than 30 euros for the two of us. We tried the Vigli once but were not over impressed. The weather was very changeable we had five days of warm sunshine and two days of rain but it was allways chilli in the evenings, it was to cold to eat outside but most of the tavernas had indoor areas so it was no problem.

We hired a jeep from Autounion for 25 euros a day (cheap I think because of the time of year) and went all over the island and saw some super scienery especialy Aliki, Paradise beach and Thasos town where there is a really picturesce walk around the old city walls and many ancient creek and roman ruins. We went over to the mainland and drove to Kavala city where there is a marvelous medivel castle with great views over the city well worth the trip.
This was a very relaxing holiday in a laid back resort that had few but good facilities.

We thought that the hotel was even better than the brochure description and the time spent enjoying the stunning views from the balcony and listening to the nightingales singing in the olive trees was wonderfull.
