"Filipidis Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have recently returned from two weeks at the Filipidis Studios at Golden Beach. The studios are excellent – spotless and well-equipped and their location perfect. We had absolutely no problems with the camp site opposite, very few wasps, no problems with dogs, and amazingly, no mozzies at night!
Food was very good and many of the tavernas are located at the edge of the beach. After reading the negative reviews of the Fedra we were loath to eat there but decided we should try it for ourselves. We ate there twice and each time found all the staff extremely polite, friendly and efficient. We were made to feel very welcome and the food was very good.
Our favourite tavernas were the Sotiris, Vigli, The Green Sea (on the way to Skala Potamia) and surprisingly the Fedra.

"Holiday - Golden Beach May 208"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed at Filipidis Apartments for two weeks. It was the most relaxing holiday we have had. The apartments themselves were very clean and bright and well looked after. Having read other reviews, we cannot comment on the lack of air conditioning as this was not a problem for us at this time of year, nor were the wasps that several other people complained about. Although there were wasps, they were few and far between. Our only gripe was that there was no toaster in the apartment (and the fact that we couldn't stay for another fortnight!) We did not experience any noise from the camp site opposite, however, we appreciate that this may become noisy in the high season.
The beach was a short walk across the road, and there were several good restaurants within easy reach, Playa de Ora, Finikas and Fedras being three of them. Although other reviewers have slated Fedras, we found the food and service excellent. Again this could have been because we were not there in the height of the season - we can only assume that other reviwers had to wait a long time for their food - but surely this goes to prove that it is being cooked fresh. (And while you wait you can relax with a nice drink and enjoy the scenery!)
Thassos is a small island so you can drive all the way round it in less than 3 hours, but there are several sheltered coves you can visit. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and we recommend Filipidis to anyone looking for a quiet laid back holiday.

"GOLDEN BEACH RESORT"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just return from a week's holiday at the Filipidis Apartments in Thassos (We arrived 25th May) and would most definitely recommend them for cleanliness, space, location and resort.
These apartments are family owned and the family live on the ground floor. The building and gardens are the family's pride, with the father looking after the lawned garden bedecked with geraniums, roses and beautifully shaped trees to the front and lawned rear garden surrounded by home grown salad and grapes.
The building itself is 2 floors high and nearly every room faced east, so the balconies caught the morning sun but was cool enough to sit in during the afternoon and the evening when the sun was going down. There is plenty of storage space (wardrobe and drawers) silver double sink unit with cupboards above and below, a fridge, a stainless steel hot plate with two electric rings. A table and two chairs inside, also a coffee table and one more comfortable chair. Our room had a double and a single bed inside and still lots of room.
Cups saucers, dishes plates and cutlery were available as was glasses and pots and pans, electric kettle but no toaster.
A tea towel, scourer and sponge was provided for washing up.
2 hand towels and bath towels were provided and was changed once during the week as was bed linen.
Although facing a camp site, we suffered no noise, although I can imagine when the camp site got really busy you would beable to hear it.
Just around from these apartments is some more called MARINA apartments which a small bar opposite which has its own swimming pool that you were free to use.
Lots of little supermarkets within 5 mins walk. reasonable prices. Lovely beach although no showers on beach. Cost for 2 sunbeds and parasol was 7E per day for the time we were there. Not many folk about this week. Temperature was approx 26 - 33degrees and although there is no air conditioning we slept with the patio doors open every night and felt safe enough and cool enough. Took my plug in mozzie repellent so didnt have any trouble although got bit outside a couple of times.
Not much to do except relax over a meal and drink in the evenings. Plenty of choice without going too far.
All in all - a lovely place (both resort and accom) to just relax and enjoy yourself. clean accom, clean beach, just take a good book and hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Not many wasps in May but apparently they are swarming everywhere by Sept.

"Filipidis Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
My boyfriend and I spent a week in Golden Beach, this was my second time from five years ago, boyfriends first time. We both had an excellent holiday and would definitely go back.
The Filipidis apartments are beautiful, white and blue, really clean. Other people on the reviews state that there is no air conditioning - this is very rare in Greece and so those who have been to Greece before will appreciate this. We always take our own fan; it's about 12' in height so is perfect for the case. Balcony is a decent size with blue frosted glass between the apartments. Bathroom is of a small size but perfect for a holiday. Bins changed every day - towels changed twice a week with linen. We purchased the safe which cost 18 euros for the week - this is worthwhile and gives piece of mind.
The apartments are facing a campsite - to be honest this really did not cause any problems at all. Most noise came from people selling patio furniture and fish off vans along the road. Whilst in the room this could hardly be heard any way. There are patio doors which also have a roll down shutter so this could be pulled down of a night and the door kept open keeping any of the mosquitoes out. We also bought citronella candels from the supermarket which worked late night to keep them away and also created a lovely atmosphere.
I would advise to buy, repellent for the mosquitoes. When I came five years ago the wasps were much worse. There are a few flying around and they will come if you eat meaty foods - therefore it is best to eat later of the night as they aren't there then. James got stung once on his feet, make sure you have after bite with you.
Favourite bars included Cavo D'oro, the staff were very friendly, try the ham and cheese omelette and the fruit with waffle - delicious. They also have a happy 'hour' 8-10pm cocktails are 4 euros. For a fantastic view try Vigli's you can see all across the bay - they do really nice frappe's and chocolate milkshakes.
Favourite places to eat - we tried quite a few different places but the best food and cheapest was Sotris which is near the end of the bay. Typical meal cost 25 euros and would advise the fried courgettes, cheese and ham pies and sole fillet ala cream with prawns!!! The food in the Vigli was also really nice made even better with the fantastic view.
We were very disappointed with Fedra - food was ok but service was awful - we waited twenty five minutes for a bottle of water and the restaurant wasn't even busy. The staff did not appear bothered that we were unhappy with the service provided.
The beach is gorgeous but beware the sand is boiling hot - even though it's white! The sea is lovely, first few days the sea was like a mill pond, towards the end of the holiday the waves were really high around 5-6";- this wasn't a problem for us as it was really fun.
The weather was fantastic reaching 41 degrees on some days therefore we tended to stay in the shade till 1-2ish. We used a high sun factor (30) and did not burn.
The Thomson rep was ok but pushed the excess baggage allowance - to only find out at the airport that they weren't really that bothered and if you was over by a lot it was 10 euros per kilo versus the £100 the rep told us it would be. We did not go on any trips but would consider it next time. One of the restaurants towards the campsite runs a boat trip which sounds very good. Transfers on the way back were unorganised - considering one of the reps has been there for twenty years.
Overall we had a fantastic time and will defiantly go back to Golden Beach and the Filipidis apartments.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The Filipidis Studios are well located and are only a 3 minute walk to the beach. However a majority of the rooms faced the large camp site and the noise caused us some ";agro";.The rooms themselves were excellent spacious bright and the furniture was white. Also there were blinds at each window which helped also as security factor. There was no television and no air conditioning which was a major disappointment as it was very hot.You could hire a fan but at 20 euros a week this was profitiring and annoyed us.You could also hire a safe deposit box for 8 Euros a week which gave us peace of mind. There was book exchange library and the rooms were cleaned daily except Fridays. The property is family owned and was very friendly.
The resort itself is a beach lovers paradise and there is a good selection of typically Greek tavernas here. The numbers of wasps were a problem especially when eating and we understand this has been an issue for a few years now.Perhaps the local authority should do something about it as if it continued it could well effect the tourist trade to this resort.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The Filipidis Studios are larger than average, well lit and the furnishing is modern by Greek Standard. Even the bathroom was nice with no trouble with the plumbing. There was a book exchange library and the beach was only 5 minute stroll with a mini market even close. There are three aspects about the studios which were disappointing. No air conditioning. Hiring a small fan cost 20 euros a week which was ridiculous. Our room overlooked the large camp site which was rather noisy.
Overall we were satisfied with the accommodation. The resort, the scenery and beach were wonderful but be warned apparantly for the past few years there has been an invasion of wasps in the summer which some days made eating out quiet unpleasant. We got strung 6 times during our fortnight stay and slightly spoilt what was otherwise a great reaxing holiday.
Resort is best for couples of all ages rather than for families or singles.

"Filipidis Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from Golden Beach and have read the comments on your web site and have decided for the first time to write a review ourselves. Firstly the wasps were a major issue, we have never been on holiday anywhere in the world to a place that had so many wasps. We got stung 5 times and overall the is the only reason why we would not return to this resort and this problem spoilt our holiday and fending off the wasps whilst eating took all the enjoyment out of many of our meals.
We endorse most of the comments made about the Filipidis studios. rooms a good size, bright and nicely furnished. The bathroom was well above average and it was well cleaned daily except Fridays. Linen was changed twice a week. It even had an electric kettle. No air conditioning in a country so hot was beyond comprehension in the 21st century. but it was not the only property in the resort to be without this facility. We refused out of principle to pay the hire charge of 40 Euros for the hire of a small fan for 2 weeks. We suffered instead!!. This was our only real complaint about the Filipidis Studios. We suggest if you are thinking of holidaying in Golden Beach you read the brochures to identify accommodations that have air conditioning is available, it really is necessary. Perhaps the lovely owners will read this report and spend the money to put it in as it really would make such a differnce. Our room was at the side and so did not overlook the camp site so the little noise from it did not bother us.The location otherwise was excellent a short distance to beach, mini market and a couple of tavernas.
The beach here is wonderful and together with the scenery is the real selling point. There is a good selection of tavernas and the only bad experience we had was at Federas taverna where the service was slow, offhand and generally awful. This is a resort for couples and with the wasps problem here bringing children would be a nightmare. In any event the resort is probably best suited to couples would want a lazy ";Beach Life"; traditional Greek holiday.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The Filipis studios are simple but nice studios located on the flat area of Golden Beach. (Beware if booking at this resort there are a small numbers of properties located up steep hills so check before booking.) there is a kettle and fridge in the room and a fridge and the other equipment is basic but sufficient. There is no television or microwave. A biggest gripe was there being no air conditioning available and being charged 40 Euros for a small and inadequate fan for 2 weeks. We strongly objected to this additional cost. The studios are only 5 minutes easy walk to the the glorious beach and 2 minutes to the nearest mini market and taverna. The rooms were tastefully furnished for Greece and the roller blinds were excellent. Cleaning was done daily except Fridays and the linen was changed twice a week. Opposite our room was a large camp site which was not rowdy but some noise could be heard so if you want absolute peace and quiet this could be a minor problem.
The resort and holiday revolves round the fabulous beach and the stunning surrounding mountain backdrop. Hiring 2 chairs and an umbrella cost 6 or 7 Euros a day depending on which part of the beach you sit. There are a couple of shops and bars but the evenings are best spent over a prolonged meal at one the tavernas. Avoid Fedras tavernas where the service is hostile and slow. A final point the resort over recent years had been subject to an invasion of wasps so ensure you take on put on a repellent before yo go out in the evening. Even this did not stop us getting stung 3 times in a fortnight.
Overall we a couple of reservations we can recommend the Filpidis Studios and the main downside of the resort was the wasps which were a real nuisance.

The Filidipis studios are in an excellent location between Golden Beach and Skala Potamis which makes both easily accessible. Golden Beach as the name implies has the best beach whilst Skala Potamis has better and a bigger selection of tavernas and bars( although not many bars). the studios are 2 minutes from the beach and are simply but nicely furnished. They are well equipped and the plumbing actually worked. The downside was we requested a twin bedded room and were given a double bed and there was no air conditioning. We put up with these shortfalls because of the fabulous beach and the location of the studios.

Golden Beach describes the resort to a tee. Wonderful golden sands shelving slowly into a deep blue sea. This is a place to holiday if you enjoy a beach holiday and very little else to do. We stayed at the Filipidis Studios which overall were excellent. The rooms were a nice size furnished in modern white furniture with a small kitchenette. Unlike many other places in Greece we have stayed there was plenty of lighting and the bathroom was excellent. Unfortunately there was no air conditioning and they charged 20 Euros a week for a small fan which was ridiculously overpriced. We thought it should have been included as standard equipment in each room. you could buy one cheaper!!. Some rooms overlooked the camp site which at times was subject to a little noise but to be fair it did not disturb us unduly.
The other factor beyond anyone's control was the number of wasps which some days spoilt eating out as they were a real nuisance. We only got stung once. a good selection of tavernas but the one to avoid is Fedras where we insulted and the service was generally offhand.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday apart from the wasps and lack of air conditioning. Hopefully the owners of the property will update and put air conditioning in otherwise when we next return we would look for a property in this resort with this facility as you really do need it.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from two weeks in Golden Beach. Apartment was lovely - very spacious and very clean. Didn't hire a car but found the bus service very reliable - only once had a delay of about half an hour in Panagia. The resort was much quieter than we expected (although we do like quiet) - but during the second week several of the restaurants were closing down - think Thomson's should end their season on October 1 as that seems to be when a lot of the restaurants do! Think the island is lovely - but if you don't hire a car then perhaps a week is long enough.
Restaurants were good - with the exception of Fedra which had all the atmosphere of a staff canteen. Never made it to Vigli - as it closed without warning the second week -or Agriokoli (??) as there never seemed to be anyone in it.
Would I go again - I doubt it - why - the wasps!! Despite what was written on this website the wasps in September were an absolute nightmare - my friend was stung 6 times - although for some reason I managed to escape. You couldn't relax on the beach and if you had lunch at Pefkas you needed to go inside to get away from them. Fortunately they seem to disappear by dinner time.

Two weeks home and can honestly say that Thassos and Golden Beach in particular has provided us with a wonderful, relaxed and simply greek break.
We hired a car for two days which was plenty time for us to see the best bits of the island, driving is easy and very safe for inexperienced foreign drivers as we were.
The apartments were fine, with a very friendly manager, they even let you borrow novels and lilos which is very kind. Would I go back, yes definately. In a year or two. Would I stay in another resort......no way. Different accomodation...possibly a hotel bar would have been really nice to unwind later in the evenings. We spoke to some people at the Hotel George who were really impressed ...so we might look at that next time!
Golden Beach is very quiet, but does have the best beach on the island......only a walk away from Potamia in the evening where you can find everything u expect from a British Package deal in Europe.
Now I have written this I vow not to tell anyone else about how wonderful Thassos is. Lets hope it doesn't get spoiled.

Booked a 2 week holiday through Portland for £235 each to go 8th May. A little early in the season for us but it was a much needed holiday!
Arrived at Kavala airport, retrieved the luggage, then left the luggage under the Filipedes sign and next saw it at the hotel. The ferry journey to Thassos is very relaxing and enjoyable.
Coaches were there to meet us on Thassos and within 40 minutes we were at our accomodation. First impressions are that it is very pretty. Second impression, when we were showed to our room, was how immaculately clean it was. No nasty musty smells just really nice and fresh and clean. Nice little kitchen area with electric kettle (we had taken our own). Very adequate accommodation. The cleaner came in every day, except Fridays, and the linen and towels were changed twice a week.
Golden beach is a very nice beach. Very clean and the sand is golden. You can easily walk up to Skala Potomia which is a very small town with a selection of nice tavernas and souvenier shops.
I had budgeted £150 for car hire for 7 days but actually got 10 days for £105. It was only a small car, Daewoo Matiz, but served our purpose. We hired it from Potos car hire in Skala Potomia. For us the car made the holiday because it meant that we could go all around the island and up into the little villages. It is so easy to drive as there is very little traffic and there are NO traffic lights on the whole of the island. We found several beaches one of our favourites was Aliki it was idyllic. We went up to a village called Potomia and walked a mountain trail up to Ypsario, it was hard but so worth it. We even saw a tortoise and turquoise snake!! It was fantastic up there, so quiet and beautiful, we even went back for a second walk and saw a brown snake.
We ate out every night and tried several tavernas and had several greek dishes, all of them were really nice. Can't say I had a bad meal all the time we were there.
It was a little early in the season when we got there so a few places were not yet ready for tourists but it didn't really matter because we still found places to eat etc. The only thing was that there was a lack of little bars to have a relaxing drink in on the way back to the apartments but if that is all I can complain about then it isn't too bad!.
We were lucky with the weather, being so early in the season. It rained a little on the first Weds and a major storm on the last Friday night. Other than that it was mainly sunny, sometimes windy and usually overcast in the morning until about 10.30am. For the first week it was quite cold in the evening but as it warmed up during the day it got warmer in the evening by the time we were going home.
It was very quiet at night so we had no trouble having a good nights sleep. There were no groups of young people as it is definetly not like Ibiza or anywhere like that! We talked to people who had been going to the same place for 12 years or more! We would recommend Thassos to anyone but probably wouldn't go back as we like to see different places.
All in all the holiday was very nice. Quiet, relaxing no pressure to do anything if you didn't want to. No-one mithering you to eat at their restaurant or buy from their shops. Anyone going there should have a good time if they like it quiet and chilled.
Have fun.

We have just returned from two most wonderful weeks in Golden Beach and I would recommend our accomodation to anyone.
It was kept wonderfully clean, everyday, except Friday, the cleaners day off. The bed linen and towels were changed twice weekly. There is plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space and the fridge was so useful for the milk etc.
We ate at many of the Tavernas but I think our favourite was Akrogiali, near Fedras.
We hired a car for 3 days the first week and 3 days the second week at a very reasonable price. We went to the North West of the island to see the sunset and this was really spectacular.
I think our resort was the best on the island, and look forward to returning one day.
