"Apartments Cristin review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We've just come back from two great weeks in Thassos. We stayed at Apartment Cristin in Potos which was central but not right in the middle of Potos, which is quite noisy at nightime. We had a fantastic view from our balcony over the sea and could not fault the apartments or the owner, Manos, who was lovely.
The apartments are close to the main beach of Potos but to the left of our apartment within 2 mins walk was a tiny beach which was peaceful and not at all busy. We visited Trypti beach (lots of sea urchins and a big drop once you get in the water) but worth going to but the beach we liked was just outside Potos, not sure of its name but you pass a concrete lookout on the right and its just round the corner. This had sand underfoot in the sea and was frequented mostly by Greeks.
If you don't like crowds avoid the weekend that the Festival of St Mary falls on, which happened when we were in Thassos. This is like their Christmas and the Greeks all go back to their home town. This made for a busy few days. I think it must happen around the 24th August each year.
Potos itself is a lively but not too commercialised resort. We avoided eating at the beachside tavernas as the food and prices were not good. The best two places were Zooom (but seriously big portions) and Georgios in the Garden, which is up the road from Zooom past the BP garage. They do spit roasted meat which my husband really enjoyed. We took our two children and although there wasn't too much for them to do, we all had a great time. They went Paragliding at Pefkari, which is a good beach but again watch for the sea urchins, or wear shoes in the sea, or watch where the Greeks swim, they know where to avoid them. Everyone we met was very friendly and we would highly recommend Thassos for a relaxing holiday
