Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from a fabulous week on Thassos in the resort of Skala Potamia
Firstly flights , transfers, ferry crossing and coach to hotel there and back were the best and most smoothly run we have had on any holiday we have taken. This was our first trip to Thassos and can honestly say it won't be our last. Having visited many greek islands we found Thassos to be the friendliest of them all,
The Studios we were in were basic but we're in Greece, no different to any others really, hosts were ever so friendly. Beach was 5 minute stroll away so location of studios were ideal, very peacful after a long day on the beach
Nightlife was fairly busy considering most people we know hadnt heard of this island - a lot of Greek people take there holidays there. We ate at numerous restauraunts and cannot really choose between then as they were all of good standard. A few music bars were there of which we were happy to be entertained till the small hours on ocassion.
Hire a car is a must to take in the full beauty of this Island. One place we would recommedn to visit is Theologos, Travel round the island road to Potos, Take a turn towards the mountains for 4km and you will come across this place, AMAZING, just as you would imagine a Greek village only it is right in front of you.
Blue Bay studios are not working with Thomas Cook next year as i think they are trying to get into the Golden Beach resort more(a lovely beach there but a bit more widespread)The bacdrop to the beach is a wonderful sight, so much fruit on the island and with roughly 14000 population it is just so difficult to fault,as its 100km in circ, and 2/3rds forest it would be difficult to spoil this place and doubt the islanders would let that happen. Our little expression was that even the wasps on the island(and there are a few of them)dont sting they so friendly
All in all we had a fantastic time and recommend it top of our list now( as much as we liked it we dont want to go over board as it is still a place which hasnt been invaded by the football shirt army - (no offence to anyone - as we visit those places often too) or the drinking clubs and hopefully it wont get that way.
No hassle to get u in bars or restaraunts
Sheer blissHope this review helps a few who are thinking about visiting the island.

July 2005.Stayed in BlueBay Studios.O.K. as far as far as greek acc. goes. Very clean and set in lovely gardens at the front. If you get an apt at the back there is no view unless you like mountains! We will go back because about 2 miles away is a lovely beach (golden beach). A car is definately needed 75 euros for 3 days. The sea was like a warm bath which suited just fine. A must for anyone wanting to top their tan up on a clean beach. Safe for children too.

We have recently returned from yet another fantastic holiday at Skala Potamia. This will be our fifth time and certainly not our last,we look forward to booking again for 2006.We have stayed at the same apartments each year with Dina and Stratos, they are a lovely, warm and friendly hosts. Each year just gets better and better, the rooms are excellent, clean, well equipped, the linen changed three times a week. The gardens are devotedly attended to by both Dina and Stratos and are a credit to them.Nothing is to much trouble for them or there staff and we have made friends with all of them. Many people return year after year.
The island is very green and pretty we highly recommened the Nautalus taverna which now as new owners, sadly Katarina and Kosta (more friends we made)have sold and moved on.The new owner is very friendly and the food excellent, the service great with live greek music while you eat. There are many tavernas all very friendly, the Krambusa with the tall good looking Dimitris to attend to your every needs,we visited several times and found the food fantastic.Everybody has there own favourite place and although my partner and I have two holidays a year we are both agreed could we only have one holiday it would be with Dina and Stratos at the Blue Bay Studios every time our little bit of heaven here on earth.

We've recently returned from our holidays from Thassos. We stayed at the Blue Bay Studios in Skala Potamia and we do that for 8 years now. We always have the best holidays there and we have stayed in almost all rooms of the Blue Bay Studios.
This year we stayed at room 16 which was situated on the ground floor, facing a lovely British style garden with free sunbeds, free umbrellas and there was also a marvellous fountain. All the rooms were redecorated and renovated this year so once again our holiday was unforgetable. The rooms were very clean and the service we had was fast and excellent because the owners are very friendly, they speak perfect English and nothing is too much trouble for them.
All the rooms have a safety box, a fan, hairdryer, toaster, kettle, fridge and all the necessary cuttlery and cotlery.
We definitely recommend you to go to Skala Potamia which is a great resort and of course, stay at Blue Bay Studios.

I have recently returned from spending a week at the resort of Skala Potamias in Thassos. When I booked this holiday, I decided to return to Thassos having enjoyed a holiday there, booked through Thomsons in 2000. I had chosen the Blue Bay Studios on the basis that it had been awarded a 'Gold Medal' and from studying the details in the brochure, looked a nice place to stay.
However when we arrived, the accommodation told a different story. We were given room 16 at the back of the building. But upon entering the room we were very disappointed. The room had a multitude of faults, which caused us some distress. We had chosen the self-catering option, however the kitchen was appalling and we would not have wanted to cook there. The cupboard doors and drawers were all misaligned and very poorly stocked with minimal crockery and utensils, the fridge was tiny, the cutlery was rusty and dirty and the sink was unclean and minute.
We then looked at the bathroom, which was also incredibly small and of very poor quality. Luckily my sister and I are both fit and relatively slight, but had we had mobility problems or been bigger builds it would have been very difficult to use. The toilet was squeezed into a tiny space right up against the wall and the seat was cracked and sharp, so you could not sit on it. The wash basin was falling off the wall, the shower head was badly cracked so water sprayed everywhere, the connecting pipe to the shower head was also broken and tatty and to top it off the door handle was falling off so you could not shut the door!
The linen on the beds was torn and stained and the blankets had black mould stains on them. And the wardrobe looked like it had been sitting in water all winter, as it was very badly marked. Naturally we were quite alarmed at the state of our room and went to find the owners, however the lady that we spoke to was very unfriendly and rude. I asked if I could use their telephone to call the 24-hour Thomson helpline and she refused, saying I had to go and use the pay phone at the bottom of the road. I also asked her if we could move rooms, to which she was equally curt and refused to help us.
By this stage we were very fed up and tired, after tracking down our rep, we managed to move, several hours later, to the Aloe Studios up the road.
There was no comparison between the two places and we ended up having a good holiday. However I would urge you chose somewhere other than the Blue Bay Studios to have your holiday and it should certainly not have a Gold Medal! Had we not spoken up and moved we would have had a very different experience.
The Greek owners, who were very off-hand with us, seemed to think they could rectify the room in 10 minutes, but we just found that more of an insult!
We did end up having a good holiday, and Skala Potamias is a nice, quiet resort but i would never go back to the Blue Bay studios!!
