"Costas Studios review"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

Costas Studios was very clean and in a great location being 2 minutes from the beach and 3 minutes from the wide selection of bars in Scala Potamia. Costas and Maria looked after us very well and ensured we had everything we needed.

Don't know when the photo was taken that was in the Libra brochure but the apartments do not look like the picture!

We loved Scala Potamia. The beach is ideal if you have young children as it is shallow for quite a way out. Also we had waves which is quite unusual for a Greek resort (not on surfer dude scale - just enough to make it fun). The beach is quite narrow at Scala but widens up the further round you go to Golden Beach.

Our favourite restaurant was the one that declares itself as the original - Theagenis which has been there since 1961. There is a wide selection of food, all of which is good quality and the service is exceptional with the staff being attentive but not pushy. Try the Kope - lightly battered and fried fish which is a bit like a cod steak. Mmm, tasty.

On the suggestion of quite a few people we tried Vigli's. Yes, the views are spectacular and the service and meat are very good. But TINNED mixed veg and frozen chips. Why? For heaven's sake it only takes a minute to cook fresh green beans.

A favourite spot was the bar at the very furthest point in Scala - the one opposite the fountain. Lovely to sit there at the end of the day and watch the cars being driven the wrong way round the roundabout (by the Greeks, of course, not foreigners).
Also good fun to watch the parade of talent out for the evening sashay.

Unless you actually like going on trips organised by the tour operator there is very little need to do this as the buses go everywhere. The buses are very well organised, clean and air conditioned. One tip we were given was to buy a round the island ticket and just nip on and off the buses wherever we fancied. Unfortunately told this too late to do it on this visit but will try next time.

And, yes, there will be a next time. We don't normally holiday in July as it's too hot but the temperatures were just fine for me - not humid and not blistering. Not sure if our week was unusual or if it was caused by the mountains behind Scala but that slight breeze was very welcome. Be great to read any reviews from people who've stayed on the west of the island, away from the mountains.

See you there soon.
