If you stuck to local drinks they were a lot cheaper, however if you wanted a gin and tonic it was 4 euros and sometimes I could hardly taste the gin. Not in Cafe THOMAI Bistro which is at the far end of Skala Potima. Ran by a greek family who live on the island you can be assured of a really warm greek welcome. Vasilis and his wife Yiota run the bistro, the coffee, snacks and drinks are very good. The gin and tonic was a very good measure and I knew I was having a gin and tonic. The pancakes were excellent as is Yiota. She has a great memory, remember you from your first visit to the bar and will remember what you talked about and her warm welcome reinforced why we holiday in Greece.

The studios are as you would expect for 2T and were generally clean although kitchen equipment limited and no shower curtain. Pool lovely and food in taverna very good. However, we were very disappointed to discover that whilst Thomson describe the Green Sea as ";quiet, peaceful, serene"; etc there is major building work on two sides. Although some prople might not be bothered by this, when we were there it started at 7.40am some days and didn't finish until 8.00pm. There were concrete mixers, jack hammers etc and so you couldn't sit on your balcony and have a peaceful breakfast or drink, especially as there was a lot of dust from the site at times. The resort is great, just what we wanted but we feel sorry for the apartment owners if the work is nothing to do with them. We feel that Thomson should not be sending people there at the moment.

These apartments are well situated at the end of the resort nearer to Golden Beach. We were lucky to get one with 2 balconies. One at the front with a sea view and one at the back with a view of the mountains. When we were there the weather was not wonderful and it was good to get the last of the sun on one of the balconies. The appartments are very clean with modern curtains and furnishings. They are not well equipped - no microwave and only 2 of everytnig (bowls, plates, knives, etc) There were no egg cups or carving knife and only one wine glass and 2 tumblers. There were 2 electrical rings, an electric kettle and a toaster. However no sockets -an extension lead was fixed under the sink. The shower room was small with no curtain or screen although other apartments did have a screen.

The resort is a pretty one with a small harbour. It is very quiet and suited us. The beach varies in quality with a small stretch of sand near these apartments with sun beds and parasols. The central part of beach is a bit rough and pebbly. The beach near the harbour is wider with finer sand.

The resort has plenty of excellent restaurants. Green Sea has its own restaurant serving excellent food. There can be a long wait though. The stuffed mushroom starter is delicious as is their pork souvlaki. The Alkyoni (on the main road behind the apartment)has superb duck and lamb on the spit. The Nautilus on the front had the best Kleftiko we have ever had in Greece and they do a very good Stifado. Also on the front is a restaurant called somethng like Agkricola. Their fried courgettes are to die for!

We hired a car from Potos Cars (main road). They were cheap and good. Cars are basic but it got us from A to B. They also have books to swap or borrow.

We visited the ruins at Thassos Town - very interesting. You can park on a grassed area at the end of the 'prom' just before the road opens out. It had a parking sign and we parked for free. You can then walk into the town. The shops looked fine but my hubby is not a shop lover so can't comment further. We also went to Theologos - didn't know we had got there so ended up driving through it - not advisable - only a madman would do this - very narrow. Park by the football field and walk through. Not much to see anyway.

We liked Paradise Beach - a rough road down for cars but we parked at the top and walked down the old road - a bit further but gentler than the new road. We visited Makryammos and paid 2 Euros to go in the holdiay centere and accesss their beach. We also found some smaller bays as well. There were a lot of wasps around both on the beaches and in the restaurants during daylight hours.

We went to the lake at Maries. This is a beautiful, tranquil spot. We had our only picnic lunch in peace here. The bees came to have a look at us but moved on.

Thassos is a lovely island but September is not the time to see it at its best. There was a cold wind the first week and it was wet the second week. The ferries do not always go in 'bad' weather (not like English Channel bad - we'd call it a millpond). We were delayed going because of the 'rough sea' and the luggage did not make it on the ferry with us going back so delayed again!!

We enjoyed this holiday - it was restful and the weather did not prevent us from doing anything - just pack for summer days and winter evenings if you go after first week in September.

We stayed in a one bedroomed apartment at the Green Sea Apartments.I would return there, thats how highly I rate this gem.

The apartments only catered for about 8 rooms - which suited it's homely hospitality just fine. The apartment was fine and suited our needs. There was a regular and thorough cleaning service.

Outside is a smallish pool but perfect for our purpose because, just 40 metres away was the beautiful Med.

GS is located a good ten minute walk from [if you can call it that ]the town centre. It has probably the best stretch of beach on SP bay.Lovely warm ,shallow waters.

We ate at,about, 10 Tavernas, and only one was average. Our favourites were
Krambousa
Nautilus
Corali
Alkyion
however the very best, with superb food , was the Green sea - fantastic!!.Outside is a board ";probably the best restaurant in the world"; well, I wouldnt know about that, but certainly the best in SP

What did we do ?well dont go if your into Karaoke and Disco's. This is low key with the empathis on chilling out [which just might make it a little boring for some teenagers ]our days were spent lazing, swimming , reading and going for meals. However we did go on the Zeus boat trip which was a good day out and a car [ driving is I would say requires some concentration on the twisty roads ]
We visited Psili Amnos,Alyki,Pefkari and a deserted beach just outside Limenaria called Stelatkis.
The bus service, once you decipher the way the time table is devised,is pretty efficient..we visited Panagia - lovely place and Thassos Town/
Finally a word for the two guys, Panos and Patmos, who ran the GS...I've never seen such hardworking people, and the rest of the staff were all friendly too.
Go! you wont regret it

We have just arrived back from the Green Sea Apartments in Skala Potamia and we wanted to add a more up to date review. We had a wonderful holiday made all the better by the clean, modern and spacious apartment which now has air con! The family who run the apartments and restaurant are very nice and friendly. The food in the restaurant is lovely too, especially the massive Greek Salad. Another favourite taverna was the Akrogiali on the sea front!

The beach is lovely especially outside the green sea where there are just enough sunbeds for everyone but is not crowded. We paid 7Euros for 2 sunbeds and a brolly which we thought was very reasonable but the beds by the pool are free! The pool is quite small but clean and well maintained.
We found a lovely bar, the Aegean which is run by a lovely couple Ann and Iain. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the green sea. Although they are English this is definatly not a tacky English bar and they are so welcoming and helpful. We made lots of friends of all different nationalities.

The island of Thassos is beautiful and typically Greek. It is unspoilt and is not for people looking for nighhtclubs.
We will definatly be returning, both to Thassos and to the Green Sea apartments!

Thought I would add an up-to-date report having just returned from Scala Pot.

Found Libra and Excel airways to be spot on. No hassle with transfers and ferry. You just leave your cases at airport in Kavala in front of sign for each apartment and they are taken by lorry on to ferry and are waiting at the apt. on arrival. Timings of ferry meant just time to nip into supermarket for water and any essentials then we were off. Despite dire warnings from rep. to stock up on industrial strength mossie repellent never saw a single one.

Also NO wasps.

Return ferry was great also. Wondered why we were being followed by seagulls - just hold out pieces of bread (or in my case Pringles) and they take them out of your hand.

Apts were fine, pool quite small but lovely for refreshing swim early evening. They definitely need aircon. tho'. Impossible to sleep very well as quite humid and apt. baking hot. Cockerel crowing @ 5 a.m. and dog joining in. Only two of us, but got apt at no extra cost but just had 4 beds , no settee or small table and chairs. Balcony large and everything clean.

Beach nice and sea lovely and clear. Just one row of sunbeds with brolly, 7 Euros.

Eating out - similar to prev. reviews. Krambousa. nice fish, Koralia nice mousaka in clay pot. The one on back road Alkion or similar name, Nice roast meat.

Nice spot for lunch Anyakroupolis, overlooking sea , enormous toasted sandwich in baguette 2½E, great Greek salad 4E.It's at Golden Beach end of Scala, near Green Sea.

Went on one trip Best of Thassos. Not bad but went on a bit long and some of stops seemed more geared to the commission guide was receiving. (Yoghurt tasting, charged 4E and lunch which was O.K. but in self service place.) Think car hire would be better.

All in all enjoyable, quiet resort, picturesque, lovely tavernas, but Hot at this time of year.

Situated 10mtr from the 2 mile long beach and roughly half way between Scala Potamis and golden beach this accomodation is in a lovely location just a 3 minute stroll to restauraunts and bars. The accomodation has a pool and on site bar and restaraunt. The staff are very friendly and the accomodation is pretty new.The weather on our visit between 13-20 May was great High 20s all week.I have been travelling the Greek Islands for 12 Years and I can recommend this as an island not yet spoilt by tourism. Get here before it is
