We went to Thassos and fell in love - with Thassos and its people! If you are looking for a place to unwind and chillout this is it.

Check - in and flights were painless with adequate food on board. Transfers quick and pleasant with a lovely ferry trip from the mainland to Thassos (40mins). You leave your luggage on the coach, which goes with you.

Skala Potamia might be a bit quiet for some but there is no shortage of fine restaurants and bars. The Vangelis studios were newly built with good quality fittings and plenty of storage space and constant hot water - something that is often hit and miss in Greece! There is no air - con but a fan can be rented at the Chrystal supermarket on the beach. (Next door to the Fiss Voss restaurant)

We borrowed a book of walks from Bill our tour rep and walked from Skala Potamia to Potamia village and then on to Panagia up through the hills across fields - a round trip of about 6 miles. The views make it worth while.

We rented a car from Potos Car Rental - 100 mtrs up the road from the apartment - and explored a bit of the Island. Theologis is worth a visit if you like old unspoilt villages, we're keen photographers and spent hours there!

Beaches were clean with plenty of restaurants nearby for food, drinks and loos!

In S/Potamia we found the best snorkeling near the rocks at the far end of Golden Beach - approx 15 minute walk along the beach.

And what's all this I've read about wasps? There were a few but no more than we get in the UK at this time of year and we didn't find them a problem at all. On the other hand people may have mistaken wasps for bees, which are plentiful - honey being one of the islands main exports, however, they were docile and more interested in gathering nectar than pestering tourists! Mossies, on the other hand, are vicious and you have to use repellent in the evenings and if you venture out to the hills.

Overall we loved Thassos and would return there if it were not for the fact that there are so many other Greek Islands to explore - this was our 7th island and there are lots more to go yet!
