Just returned from our first visit to this stunning Island. Breathtaking veiws but a car is a must. Hotel beautiful but remote, service excellent with views of the beautiful beach from the restaurant. Would definetly return. One word of warning, don't change your travelers cheques at the hotel they could only change 100 euros at a time with a 5% charge, go into Thassos town the jewelers change as much as you want for 2%.

Just got back from a great holiday in Thassos.
The Hotel Llio Mare is the best hotel we have been in so far.
Before we went on holiday read the reviews and I was thinking that we had made a big mistake going to this hotel.
I know that people are different and want different things on holiday but I feel that the reviews didnt pay any justice to this hotel.
When we booked the holiday we was not told that we had to get a ferry to the island.
Well we didnt need to worry the flight was on time the ferry was on time and the coach was there to take us to the Hotel.

The reps were great very friendly.
Our rooms lovely the children had their own room next to us so we had some time of our own which was nice. The rooms were very clean in our room we had a queens size bed. The maid came in every day.
The pool was great big and clean. the pool is cleaned every day.
FOOD- Well Me and my Son are very fussy and we eat very well they only do chips one day which was on Sat but if you really need Chips they do a big plate full down on the beach for 4euros.
The staff are so friendly they cant do enough for you. When you have finished your plate they were there to take it away and then you go for more.
The Beach is lovely very clean. There is a lot of wood at times in the sea and this is because its come from the mountains.

Well this is a 4* hotel and they deserve it. I hope that if you are going to this place that you have a great time just like us.

This Hotel was the cleanest hotel we have stayed in for a long time but what a stunning location, excellant food even though it is mainly Greek, the selection on offer was amazing and if my fussy seven year old found something to eat every day I'm sure nobody would have a problem!!
The staff were friendly and the service was second to none.
The beach was beautiful with a calm, transparant sea and no mess on the sand or anywhere so if they had a problem before it is now gone.
They don't really have any entertainment for the evenings but we met a great bunch from England and had a good laugh so we were entertained!!

We had one of the most relaxing and laid-back holidays ever, mainly swimming and snorkelling and eating so if you want a total chill-out head to this lovely hotel.

Thassos is certainly a beautiful island, and although we didn't always share the gushing praise of other holiday makers, we did understand why people frequently return there. The pace of life is unhurried, the island is picturesque and in parts it is incredibly charming.

Skala Prinou is one of the quieter parts of Thassos, none of it being particularly busy. Being on our honeymoon, this suited us though, as it felt very uncrowded and relaxed.

The Ilio Mare Hotel is probably one of the most modern and most plush on the island. From the point of view of quality, it would be difficult to fault it: the food for half board guests was very good, the rooms were very modern and clean, and the staff were always efficient and helpful.

There were some negatives however, and ones which appear to echo some of the moans made about other Thassonian hotels. The Ilio Mare will attempt wherever possible to charge quite heavily for what it clearly sees as extras: beach sunbeds and parasols, tea and coffee (which can only be obtained through room service as rooms have no kettle), soft drinks during dinner, safety deposit boxes etc. It also prevents guests from taking their own food or drink to their rooms, making it even more necessary to buy (at some expense) from them. It is a shame that all this clouds ones opinion somewhat, as the hotel is actually very beautiful.

The trips around the island are certainly worth paying for. We went on a tour called ";The Wonders of Thassos"; and also on a trip to Phillipi (an ancient Greek ruin) on the mainland. The guide on both occasions was Angela, a very knowledgable and witty Greek Archiologist. She really was excellent.

If we visited Thassos again (which is a possiblity) we would probably stay in Thassos town (Limenas) as it appeared to have a little more life than the other resorts.

My mum and i decided that from the description in the brouchure, this hotel would be ideal for a relaxing, quiet treat. Unfortunatly this was not the case.

The hotel accomadation was average and did not live up to four star rating, it was described by the rep as the best and most modern on the island.

The resturant was very modern, almost in an italian style, however, the food was very poor with flies constantly around both the food and seated areas. We never had a hot meal as everything (including fish) were served luke warm. The staff were slow to serve although very nice.

The real disapointment was the beach, the brouchure leads you to believe that it is a private beach with sun beds and umberellas supplied, the sunbeds and umberells are true, but at a cost. This was missleading as we had paid alot of money for our holiday. The beach was cleaned daily but still very dirty. If you don`t mind sharing your beach with cigarette ends, dirty nappys, empty bottles and giant ants, you`ll be fine. It was not relaxing or quiet either, as music belted out from the beach bar all day, and families of locals decended on the beach ( the best on the island ha!)regulally.

August may have not been the ideal time to go due to the greek holiday as well, but Thomsons do not mention any of this in the brouchure.

There is very little to see and do on the island apart from the view of Kavala city in the distance (and the oil rigs in the way).

We would not recomend this hotel or island to anyone. We both decided that there are far nicer greek islands full of natural beauty and far cleaner and quiter beaches. Our impression of the island was that tourism is reletivly new in Thassos and they haven`t quite grasped it yet.

The only good thing about visiting the island is that the organisation of the coach transferes and ferry crossings are very well organised and you will not be sat around waiting if your flight is on time.

If you have already booked to go here then remember that everyone is different and you may enjoy it. If you want to read reviews before booking, then my advice if you want a taste of greece would be to go to one of the other islands to a small resort. (Zante is one off the best we feel).

Skala Prinos is a beautifully quiet resort. The ilio mare has recently been upgraded and rooms increased. The decor and design is excellent and the pool outstanding. There are some downsides though. Because it is so new the owners seem to be overprotective of their new hotel e.g. On arrival a note in the room indicates that no food or drink is allowed in the room and any that is found by maids will be removed. There is a minibar but is is inadequate and very expensive. So if you fancy a glass of wine on your balcony overlooking the sea be prepared to break the rules. And if you have bought a kettle with you, hide it during the day! (There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room). One German guest was very upset to find wine had been removed from a bag in her room and a note left. Don't leave things on your balcony during the day, they will be tidied away. One couples half finished Scabble game was packed away whilst they were at breakfast!

The hotel bar is very expensive - as a result few guests used it - hence the atmosphere was less than inviting. We found the Batis Taverna towards Prinos was a good drinking venue with live music on Wednesday evening. Hotel staff frequented this place after work.

If they get the customer servic right this hotel would be excellent. Our air con took three days to repair.

Thassos is a beautiful island and if you feel active Rose's (a Dutch lady) walk and picnic is a must.
