"Skala Rachoni"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We went to the Coral hotel last june for one week. Basic accomodation but cleanand decent air con, breakfast was average weak orange juice, bread cold boiled eggs same every day, staff never spokje. Nice pool area and bar, the owners son runs this and I have to say he is not a pleasant man. He never spoke only under effort. Coral is close to the beach but there are no sun beds or parasols, so we stayed at the pool. Good eating places about 20 mins walk away. All in all an average holiday. Going into thassos town every night saved it!

Thassos is a beautiful island with plenty of lovely quiet beaches, very easy to hire a car and see the whole island.
The coral on the other hand is very tired looking, not a very friendly place at all the staff don't go out of there way to make much of an effort, there was no food available when we where there only breakfast at 5 Euros pp per day the local shop is a 15 min walk away. very low key at night a couple of restaurants on the beach and one bar. this is not really a resort at all its more of a couple of hotels and a beach between 2 resorts .
thassos town is great for a livelier night out 10 Euros each way in a taxi or skala prinos a small port town 5 Euros each way

We returned yesterday from the wonderful Island of Thassos after one of the best holidays we have every had.
The 'unfashionable' resort of Scala Rachioni is lovely. At least 4 km of quiet beach dotted with tavernas. Vicky's place at the very end run by Mikolos (Michael) was our favourite. We sat right on the beach watching the sun set with our food and wine.
The whole island is so pretty. The little mountain towns well worth a visit - all of them.
Our last day was spent on the aptly named Paradise Beach. This is just a bay with one cafe and a nudist beach to the left. The sea is more exciting on this (east) side of the island but perfectly safe.
For the first time in our lives we hired a scooter and pootled around on that. There is very little traffic and the other road users were very courteous.
If you do choose Scala rfachioni make sure you count your change int he mini market (Gekka) near the church at the end. The other little shop nearby is better with a very friendly young lady.
Our first package holiday for some time and we were very impressed with Thomas Cook/Thomsons right the way through. The young man in the Falkirk call centre who helped us with the initial booking was excellent as were the reps on the island.
We can't understand though why Thomas Cook rated Hotel Coral as only one star. It is on it's own around 200 m from the beach. You walk through olive groves to reach the taverna and there is a wonderful swimming pool.
