Thassos is a beautiful island with some stunning quiet beaches but Skala Rahoni was not one of these, it is really quite untidy in areas away from the hotels with carrier bags and rubbish that probably gets washed up from the mainland. My husband and I dont like busy hectic resorts, but had we not had a car for 7 out of the 14 days we were there we would have been very bored. There are only a few tavernas, Gekas was by far the best and no other entertainment what so ever in the village. The Hotel staff are very friendly the rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious, bedlinen and towels are changed regularly, the food at the beach bar and the weekly BBQ is absolutely delicious. But the building-grounds maintenance is non existent and really lets this hotel down hence why we gave it an average overall when rating it (considering it is only 4 years old,) the decking area is extremely dangerous and needs replacing as soon as possible as a number of boards had rotted and snapped, floor tiles at the edge of the path leading from the pool to hotel were broken, brackets were hanging off parasols on the beach, sunbeds need a good scrubbing and the beach area should be raked each morning as it had lots of rubbish on it. The island its self if very scenic, tranquil and traditional our favorite beaches are makryammos(dont be put u off by pay to use this beach 3 euro each its worth it)paradise, and trypti, psili ammos is stunning but one of two tavernas there plays horrendously loud music. The villages of Panagia and Kazaviti are a must to visit not only in the day but for a traditional greek meal on a evening in the village squares.Limenaria the old capital is a lovely place to visit and has some nice restaraunts and shops as does thassos town which is best visited at night when cooler, Potos market on a Monday is worth a visit food, shoes, clothes, bags, belts etc but go early and dont park on main road as you will get a ticket. My husband said this island was the most easy and enjoyable to drive round (because there is very little traffic no circles or traffic lights and it is impossible to get lost). We would most definately return to Thassos but not to Skala Rachoni other parts of the island are a lot more scenic and interesting

We had a two week stay in May, good weather-friendly staff and v.clean rooms.Wasn.t noisy in the least. Few excellent resturants nearby-so no problems finding good food,if you wish to eat out. We found a beautiful hotel called the Golden Sunset, turn right at the T-junction opp' the mediterranean about 10min walk down the lane. They did delicious light snacks at lunch-time and very tasty evening meals resonable prices plus the added advantage of beaufiful indoor and outdoor surrounding -also the free use of the pool and sun-lounges. Great friendly owners so so pleasant.

Truly wonderful. Both Skala Rahoni and the Mediterranean Apartments were fantastic. Very quiet and relaxing and being right there on the beach was bliss. Both staff and fellow guests were lovely and we got the impression that a lot of people returned to these apartments each year. In fact, we were told that one couple love it so much in Rahoni that they are moving there permanently, getting jobs on the island as the driver of a truck which emptys the septic tank(of all things!)

It was possibly our best holiday so far and we have been to Greece many times.

Fantastic hotel, with the best staff any customer could possibly ask for. They just cant do enough for you, nothings to much trouble.
The rooms are good, pool area is excellent, with the beach on your door step. Pool bar serves tastey food, and is open all day and night untill 12:30.

I've no complaints at all about the hotel and would reccomend it to any one. Simply because theres nothing to complain about.

Wonderful and fantastic you will have a great time at this lovely hotel.

We have just spent 2 great weeks here. Hotel accomodation is fantastic it is clean and comfortable much better than I expected. We were in 104 next to the pool bar the music never went on before 10.00am and was off between about 12.30 and was never too loud. In previous reviews people have mention its a meeting place for young greek people, well they are albainian and were all really polite and even entertained some of the kids by playing ball with them.

The resort is very quiet with only a few restaurants so get out and travel.

The staff are just fab nothing is too much and they are so friendly, if you see sonny tell him mummy misses him!!. There is no Sue now she has been replaced by the lovely and very very helpful Karen who could not have done enough for you. Do go to the Saturday night quiz night the BBQ is 10 euros and there was loads of food and it was fun.

We hired mopeds from Mikes bikes in Skala Prinos they bikes were great and reliable highly recomend them. We also went on independant boat trips, this is our 3rd visit to Thassos and is much cheaper than going with the tour operator who by the way was called Emma and was really lovely and helpful. If you see her can you tell here for some reason our turkish delight was confiscated by Customs!!!! so dont bring that back in hand luggage do be careful about weights as they charge 10 euros for excess at the airport and they really do charge it, we met a couple that had to pay 40 euros extra.

taxi's are cheap and you are only about 8 minutes by car to thassos town to a lot of lovely restaurants I can recomment the Thassian which is on the front going towards the port, also ask karen for recomendations she sent us to a couple of great ones.

Whilst out on the bikes we discovered Skala Marion a lovely beach hardly anyone there it was great we also went to a restaurant run by Antoniou and his wife who have been there for 50 years he treated us like family and did not stop bringing out food, the restaurant was on one of the corners by the beach he had an icecream fridge outside his premises and a cream canopy the seating area in across from the restaurant. Skala Portimia is another great beach we have stayed here 2 previously.

Thassos is cheap and lovely. The Holiday was wonderful there is nothing to complain about and if you could complain then there is no pleasing you.

We met really lovely people there, Nigel and Angie and Katies Klan and Joshs' family and the other large family whos names we did not know but were really nice. We will return again very soon.

the Medditteranean Appartments are excellent, they are newly built, well planned and very, very clean ! The maid comes in every day except Saturday, she cleans very well, makes beds,tidys-up and is generally very pleasant. Towels and sheets changed every 3 days and always kept well stocked with loo rolls ( we never had less than 9 ! )
The pool and bar area is very pleasant with decking, seating, parasols and lighting. the food and service at the pool bar is excellent.

Sue an English lady manages the appartments, she meets every guest on arrival and sees them off on departure day ! She is very kind she took me to the health centre and pharmacy in her own car and time !
Sonny is an excellent chef/ waiter / barperson very cheerful and friendly.
best taverna in resort is Geko's complimentary Ouzo on arrival ! also fruit at end of meal !

The resort is very quiet a very relaxing holiday. the beach is lovely with very clear, very calm water.

I was tempted to write a bad report to keep everybody away from this little Gem! If you want to completely relax or 'chill'as my daughter would say, this is the place to come.

Rooms cleaned 6 days a week, bed linen 2 or 3 times a week if you are use to Greek Hotels then this one will spoil you as the furnishings are of a good quality not what i usually expect from Greece, but not an issue to me.
Food is very cheap(main dish 5-7 Euro's) and would recomend Geko's Taverna for its friendliness alone a meal for 4 including starters wine beer and coke's about 40 Euro and the puddings and ouzo on arrival was free!.
On Saturday night the Hotel has a BBQ and quiz night well worth the 10 Euro's per head if you are a big eater, and if you are not then it is more expensive than the Taverna's, but hey you're on holiday and it is still only about £7.
I love to try the Greek dishes and everything i tried was excellent, so if you want chicken and chips don't ask me.
It is very quiet and we let our daughter take a friend and it was safe enough to let them sit out by the pool past midnight chatting and making friends. There was no night life apart from the Taverna or Hotel Pool Bar.
I was one of those who Sue (the Manageress) drove to the pharmacy so i would advise plenty of insect repellant for the night, Autan woked fine but spray any uncovered skin aswel as your feet as they bite through socks!
About 100 yards up the beach to the left hidden away is a Banana boat hidden in a reed hut, they don't really advertise but it cost us 7 Euro's each and do you get your money's worth at least 20 minutes and you will get wet. Hint, take the correct money as they dont seem to do change! They will dissappear on a Jetski and return with a speedboat to do the towing, so don't think they have took off with your money.
Car Hire is cheaper in Thassos but you have to collect and return it so what you save in Euro's you lose in time and taxis. Like any Hotel they charge commision for changing travellers cheques, whereas if you are in Thassos Town the rate is better and no commision in some places.

To give you some idea of how safe and friendly this island is I stupidly left my wallett in a Jewellers and did not realise until the next evening, and guess what it was still there.
Coming back to Thassos in 2007, but could not get in here as fully booked, says it all really.

My first concern was the ferry crossing, we have never been to an island with no airport before but it wasn't too bad. the plane landed at 12.00 and we were in the apartment by 3.30 which wasn't too bad.

The apartment was very good, plenty of space and a sea view we also had a bath which you don't always get in Greece. We did have a problem with the hot water which didn't really get sorted until shortly before we left after a fortnight. The cleaners were excellent and very friendly which you expect in Greece.

The balcony was spacious but this was on the top floor. The photos in the brochure for 2007 still show only 2 floors but in fact there are three. Another one was added last year.

I would be careful about changing money at the apartments. We were offered 140 euros to the £ with 3% commission we quite easily found 145e with 1% in Thassos town. The same goes for car hire, we hired a car with europcar through the hotel and paid 260e for a week. We later found we could have got one for less than 200 in Thassos town.

The pool was small and very cold we usually crossed to the beach which was ok but a bit scruffy. We found a pile of dog dirt by one of the beds. We reported it to the manager but she never got it cleaned up. We discovered later that it had just been covered over. There is an excellent barbecue on Saturdays which is worth going to but it is expensive compared to the local restaurants.

The resort is very small. the restaurants a generally good but there are no decent bars at night and no tourist shops but there is a patisserie which does some decent cocktails I'm not a great one for nightlife but it was slow even for me.

We went in September which I wouldn't do again. The weather was ok the first week but it was cool at night. The second week was poor. The ferry back was delayed because of the weather and I don't think it got any better after we came home. I gather that this is because Thassos is in the Northern Aegean.

If you have a Phobia about wasps I would definitley think twice about going. there were a couple of occasions we were plagued by them but not in Skala Rachoni. I think it was the time of year.

To sum up. We had a good holiday but we won't be going back.

Food on the island is good value and delicious!! A particular mention must go to the Thassian in Thassos town (The one with the green sign!) run by Katrin and her greek boyfriend Rigas! We were well looked after and the food was fantastic!!

The Hotel Mediterranean is a small hotel owned by Babatzikos Margaritis who is only 28 but is very nice and makes sure that everyone staying at the hotel is happy with everything.

Sue who runs the hotel moved from Wales over to Thassos so u know that you can ask her anything and she is always glad to help! The other staff are lovely too and can all speak English so you are able to talk to them! the staff will even take you up the the super market if u need anything in their cars they will take you anywhere if you ask them like if you are unable to get to the place you would like to visit.

The hotel its self is set on a long stretch of sandy beach, with the centre of Skala Rahoni only 500 metres away from your accommodation, your close to all you need for your holiday. The nearest shops are conveniently 25 metres from the studios, and there is a bus-stop 50 metres away, also the hotel is very small with only 23 studios and 3 suites. this hotel has so much to offer for such a small place from the swimming pool decking you walk straight onto the beach which is looked after by the staff.

The sand on the beach is all glittery because of the white marble the island of Thassos is famous for the sea is clear and warm as you walk out into the sea you can see the fish swimming around at your feet.
Our family had a great time we did think the chilren would get bored as there is not much to do but they made friends with the other people staying at the hotel and the locals who came to drink at the pool bar also all they wanted to do was stay and swim in the pool or swim in the sea.

We only had a week there but wish we had two weeks there as we all enjoyed it so much! Hopefully we will return next year for two weeks this time! When you stay at the hotel it feels like one big family because everyone both guests and staff are so nice and everyone gets along.

Thanks goes to Sue and the other staff working at the hotel for making us feel so welcome!

We had a fantastic holiday in May 2005 in Skala Rachoni. I can't reccomend the Hotel Mediterranean enough.

Margaritis the owner made every one of his guests feel special and all of the wonderful staff bent over backwards to ensure our holiday was one of the best we've had. The Hotel rooms have little luxuries like a decent hairdryer, satelite TV and proper shower and bath, which in our experience is quite unusual for Greece. Don't be put off by the fact that Skala Rachoni is described as very quiet. Thassos town is only a short taxi or bus ride away and it's nice to come back to the peace and quiet.

The beach is long and sandy with some nice little tavernas serving great food right on the beach where you can watch the fantastic sunsets. Rachoni Village up in the hills is worth a visit and please while you're there make sure you visit Pine Tree Paddock where you can enjoy a wonderful evening (or early morning it's too hot at any other time) pony (or horse) trek up into the mountains.

Whatever you do make sure you see all of the island, it's small enough to spend a few days in a hire car driving to a lovely new resort (and they were all lovely) each day for another great lunch, taking in pretty much the rest of the island as you go.

We also loved the moutain village of Theologos, little windy streets and bought some great sandles from the little cobblers there!

Can't wait to return to this wonderful Island and visit all our new friends again.

We all had a wonderful holiday. The hotel was spotless and the accommodation was spacious and the bathrooms were clean and modern. It was wonderful being right on the beach and if you wanted to relax on your balcony for a while it was not a problem to pop back.

The sunbeds on the beach were free and you could always find one as they were not taken up at 6am by people placing towels on them! The hotel staff were great fun and efficient and helpful and Sue was great! If you want a really relaxing holiday then this is the place to go. There were only 2 restaurants on the doorstep to go to, Olgas and Gekas, Gekas being the better of the two. But Olga's is fun, as your food turns up at all sorts of times throughout the meal ! We all made lots of friends while we were there and were all really sorry to go.
