This is probably the best hotel in Thassos town in overall terms. The pool area was without doubt the best I saw anywhere. There were generally sufficient loungers and chairs and the pool bar/cafe was good, although with a limited food menu. The surrounding garden areas were well kept. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms were good and clean and some had very nice mountain views. Do pay the extra (6 euros per day) for the air conditioning. If you don't you will melt! Especially in August. The breakfast was adequate although anyone expecting full English will be disappointed.
The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the town and harbour with it's multitude of restaurants and bars.
My only issues with this holiday was the travel time involved in getting to Thassos. The problem is that to get to the nearest airport (Kavala) we had to travel via Skiathos. Skiathos airport is tiny, and only two planes can be on the tarmac at any one time. This led to a 2 hour delay at Manchester (sat on the airport tarmac) before we took off. Then when you arrive at Skiathos you have to wait for the Skiathos holidaymakers to disembark and those returning home from Skiathos to embark before you can take off for Kavala. At Kavala you then have a short coach ride to the harbour where you get on a ferry for Thassos town. This whole process means you effectively lose all of your first days holiday, as well as arriving extremely tired.
Thassos town is the point where most, if not all holidaymakers arrive on the island. The new harbour area where the ferries are situated is extremely busy with vehicles and passengers embarking and disembarking. It is extremely noisy until quite late at nigh...

Lovely hotel with a fabulous pool area. Air conditioning was so good we woke up in the middle of the night too cold so well worth the 6 euros a night. The breakfast was basic which does not bother me but hubby and daughter went to Rumours for a full Engish a few times to make up for it. The best two things about this hotel are the proximity to Thassos town (a 5 minute walk to the front) and the pool area (better than any we saw during the 'drop offs'. Nice balcony which is very private from next door Shower cubicle is better than the norm in Greece. The pool bar does not have an extensive menu but we were only there abou 4 days of our entire holiday so we made do with pizza, toasties and chips If you are looking for anything more than low key then this is not the hotel for you. No entertainment, no loud music, no late night bevvies with other guests, just peace and quiet which even my 9 yr old liked. There is not much more to say about the hotel as it was just so low key. Every one we spoke said that if they returned to Thassos they would stay at the Aethria again.
A few tips on Thassos; Do hire a car and visit the many lovely beaches such as Paradise, Trypiti, Golden and Pefkari.Make sure you get to Paradise early as it gets very very busy. Do take the taxi boat to Golden Beach (approx 1.5 hours) and treat as a min...

I last went to Thassos 15 years ago. It has changed. But not too much! The town is about double the size it was and it has extended to the east (it cant really go west due to the extensive archeaological remains - well worth a visit) with a new ferry 'port'...

The hotel is excellent, the rooms are modern, bright and clean and there is excellent storage. The shower room was first class. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The best bit about this hotel is the exceptional pool, very inviting and few kids running about, with lots of sun-beds, parasols, tables and chairs - we never had any problem securing a lovely spot each day. The only disappointment was the slight lack of imagination and options in the bar menu for lunch and the rather uninspiring breakfast.
The resort is small and bustling but lacks the charm of say, Lindos in Rhodes. We ate in Simi, Twins, Da Remo, Toxitis and a very scary place right next door to Simi where the maitre d' resembled a sergeant major complete with an excellent moustache - neither his restaurant nor his food were particularly welcoming. The other places were fine but none beat Moyses, down by the new harbour, which was absolutly fabulous including the waiters nipping out on their mopeds to do home deliveries as they serve you!
We used the water taxi to visit Golden Beach which is a lovely place especially the Fedra restaurant on the beach, pity Thassos Town doesn't have a similar place to compare.
This was a lovely relaxing holiday, pity you can't buy Mythos on draught here!

The Aethria Hotel is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The Hotel is situated only a 5 minute walk from the centre in lovely grounds, is kept spotlessly clean, and the staff are all very friendly. There is a lovely large pool, nice bar, and there are always ample sun loungers for everyone. Our only dissappointment was the menu at the pool bar was very limited, which was a surprise for a hotel, and we ended up having to eat out in town at lunchtimes.
Thassos is a lovely island and we used the buses regularly to get around. They were always on time, fairly cheap, and air conditioned. We visited Aliki, Limenaria and Potos which all have lovely beaches. Aliki, in particular is in a beautiful setting with a lovely beach and nice tavernas. There is also a lovely path walk alongside the water.
For eating out in Thassos Town there are too many good restaurants to mention although one particular favourite of ours was ";Simi"; restaurant at the end of the harbour. The staff are very friendly and the food is lovely. If you go to this restaurant remember to take your camera with you to get photos of the sun going down in this wonderful setting.
After our evening meal we usually ended up going to ";Rumours"; bar, owned by Wanda and Paul. Great atmosphere, very welcoming and nice reasonablly priced snack food during the day and evening.
In general Thassos is a lovely island suitable mainly for couples and we would recommend the Aethria Hotel to anyone.
Hope to come back again another year.
