This was our first time in Greece and although people impressed upon us the fact that the standard of accommodation is basic it was still a bit of a shock.The facilities in the room were just about adequate, I can't imagine you could self cater in there, though the local restaurants were cheap enough to eat out every night. The twin beds were very hard and our appartment was probably one of the smaller ones with a balcony view of an unfinished extension on one of the locals houses. The shower facilities were adequate at best, the shower curtain different. That said the standard of cleanliness was excellent and the maids were in 6 out of 7 days. The owner was very helpful when needed.

We stayed at these very comfortable studios in july/august 2008.They are situated a short walk from the port/harbour where the general bustle of tavernas,shops are placed.The town beach was about 10 minutes away and had everything you could wish for,but it's a good idea to hire a car and explore the island ,which we did...you only need car for a couple of days as the island is fairly small.Also the best transfer ever, we didn't see our luggage from placing it at pick up point at the airport until we arrived at the studios,after a very pleasant ferry ride of about 40 minutes...same on return.Brilliant place if you fancy getting away from the crowds, as the studios have little to attract families with children.One disappointment was the family of cats and kittens which the local people do not seem to like...we managed to feed them every day and they became quite friendly.Wish the locals could organize a neutering scheme if they think the cats are a problem....

This was our first time in Thassos and indeed anywhere in Greece. The journey went like clockwork and the ferry crossing to Thassos Island was wonderful (and I don't like boats)!

Although basic the studios were spotless clean and had maid service 6 times a week. They were set in a residential area and only a very short walk from the town and all its amemities. There is a small pool and ample sunbeds at the Finekes if you want to chill. Just beware that siesta time is 3pm-5pm and noise must be kept to an absolute minimum even with regards to no splashing in the pool. Minor detail unless you've got young children though. Air conditioning was available for a small charge and I would recommend it in high season. Vaso, the owner was on hand every day to sort out any problems or queries and was very helpful with her knowledge of the island. This was useful because the Thomson rep when asked appeared to have very little knowledge of the island.

Thassos town itself had a good selection of shops, a lovely promenade, very clean beach and excellent eating places. Our favourites were The Twins (which was owned by Vaso's husband), Pigi's and The Zodiac. All eateries offered exceptional value for money. There was lots of beach front cafes and bars that provided great hospitality. Without doubt on this holiday we were taken aback by the friendliness of everyone!

We explored the island by both car and bus. The bus service is excellent, easy to use and reasonably priced. A great way to get about.

Pachis beach was our favourite, just idyllic and only a short way from Thassos Town. Pefkari beach was excellent for watersports. Golden Beach was ok but very popular with tourists so a lot busier than the others we visited.

We visited a local market in Prinos but nothing to rave about. A lovely village to stop off at is Potamis. Again very friendly locals and a quaint place to explore.

Would we go back? The answer has to be yes - one day. A wonderful island where you can't fail to relax and unwind.

The Finikes Studios are a small, family run block of 10 studios. The studios are set in a quiet and peaceful residential area, a short 5-10 minute stroll into the heart of the Town. There are 3 small supermarkets and a bakery within a couple of minutes walk. The rooms are immaculately kept, and were cleaned every day and we were provided with fresh towels. The bedding was changed twice in our weeks' stay. There was a toaster, kettle and ample cutlery and crockery should you require it.

Our room faced the front of the building, and had a large balcony with comfortable patio furniture. We had the sun in the morning, which meant the room was cool at night. A/C could be purchased at a small cost. Safety deposit boxes were provided free of charge.

There was a small pool, which was quite deep, but very handy for cooling off in, and sun loungers and tables in the garden area.

Vaso and Nikos the owners were very pleasant, and Vaso popped in every day to check all was well. Nikos owns a taverna in the Town called ";The Twins";, we visited this taverna regularly and always had a fantastic meal. At the end of the meal you are brought a piece of cake (home made by Vaso) and an ouzo, which is a really nice touch. At the end of our holiday Nikos greeted us like old friends!

We booked a couple of trips through our rep, round the island tour and the brunch walk which were both excellent. We also took the water taxi to Golden Beach which cost 6 euro return trip.

It was our first trip to Thassos Town and the Finikes studios, but definitely won't be our last.

Just returned from a great 2 weeks in Thassos.Finikes apartments are basic but kept extremely clean .Ideal location for the town.Owner is very helpful.

Thassos Town has a huge choice of resturants our favorite was Moyses but did not have a bad meal in any of them.
Make use of the buses, ideal way to get round the island all buses are air conditioned and very reasonable fares.
Pakis beach was our favorite a short bus ride away, although we found the Town beach pleasant enough and sun beds were usually free just buy the odd drink from the resturant providing them.
We very rarley visit the same resort but I think we may well make an exception in this case as we have enjoyed it so much.
